Is this cheating?

So im in a 6 seat double your money.. One guys sits there doesn't even play a hand trying to be smart waiting for an easy cash i guess?

Anyways 4/6 left and im puhed all in by this guy and one other guy is in the pot so i say in chat call!!!

Obviously if we both call theres more chance one of us would win... Okay this may not seem nice but that isnt cheating?

I do not know the other person in the pot or anyone else on the table so how can me simply saying call be classed as cheating?

This alex guy says thats cheating and he is reporting me on the forum.

Alex you need to play some hands and then maybe you will gain some respect on the table!

I guess if he had called it could be considered so but the fact is he didn't call.

I think it's best to not say call ever again though so i will keep that in mind.

I can see now see that if the other play had called i would be in the wrong. ( But remember he didnt call )

Thanks for the advice on this one guys i will make sure i do not tell anyone to call in future as it is frowned upon.

i would suggest you look up the definition of colluding if you feel you arnt doing exactly that, you are telling another player to call for personal gain as its 2 v 1 and you have better chance of busting him. dosent matter whether he called or not you still said it and he is well with in his rights to report you to customer care, you made a mistake and didnt realise what you were doing so as long as you dont repeat it then its all good in the hood. gl at the tables!!!

yep - definitely collusion or an attempt - would you shout "call" if you were playing live??? thought not.

    Hi soggy

Basically you should never do anything that could influence someone's decision at the poker table- it will at least be frowned upon, or may just be plain against the rules.

Obviously asking someone to call could be seen as trying to influence them to call.

It looks like you honestly didn't consider this to be wrong and will probably not do it again. We all learned it at some point.

In reality, you probably have very little, if any influence on someone else's decision... But that's not the point. Say the player did call with some kind of raggy hand and won - you may end up trying to prove that you weren't colluding and in a bit of a sticky situation. Best just to avoid the whole situation in the first place and keep the game as honest and fair as possible.

Gl at the tables, and kudos for accepting you might have been in the wrong without getting ugly.

    Ha!

    What a great reply, Imber.

Imagine doing it in a "live" game, at a casino, & the all-in fella was realllllllly big & ugly.

You'd be even money to be on the wrong end of a slap round the chops.

Worth noting, though, that the OP was not intentionally cheating or colluding - they just did not know the rules. Which, to be fair, is a bit different.

    Very true.

Something like this isn't immediately obvious to people so helping them understand these things is good. There was a time when all of us had to learn about these things.

And I can perfectly understand your angst, Alex, but it's clear from reading the thread, this was not cheating or collusion as such, it was just ignorance of the rules. The OP has acknowledged this.

I've played Online Poker since the first ever Online Poker site was started, back in 1998 I think. I have played on, & had or have Accounts with, every half-decent Online Poker site out there. And in all those years, & on all those sites - including Sky Poker - I don't think I've never seen a written rule, or T & C, which explicitly says YOU MUST NOT DO THAT.

What happens is that we learn, as we go along. And this is what I think went off here. It was a genuine error - the OP never realised that it amounted to collusion, &/or that collusion is cheating.  But they do now, & maybe others have realised, too.

    We all had to learn.

Ignorance is rarely a valid defence, but in this instance we should let it slide.

    Nice one Alex, thanks.

We've all had it done to us, & especially in DYM's on the bubble when someone types "just call & check it down lads".

    It's pretty annoying, yes.

There's just a huge difference between those who know it's wrong, but still do it, & those who are simply not aware.

im in a saterlite at a live venue. top 2 go into the main event and theres 4 left. im allin on the button with junk. the small blind asked the big blind" are you gonna call?" the big blind says "no." small blind says " ok i call." the big blind then says "well im priced in now" and calls. much checking later and my junk gets there. the small blind then accuses the big blind of cheating and tries to get him thrown out for it. the big blind accuses the small blind of collusion and wants him disqualified. i  wet myself laughing and qualify. so it can happen in a live game. rookie mistake yes. cheating no.
