    @Jim and @Chris.

That's what I tend to do - if the table is somewhat loosey goosey usually best to tighten up.

Having got to grips with a more aggressive game - it is much harder to curb that approach now though! I find the structure a bit quick.

In the past my only "adjustment" v freezouts was to try and stay ahead of the avg stack to give myself a better chance for bounties. Not sure whether that is wise or not - freezouts I don't panic if go below the avg stack until I hit quarter stack or <15bbs

Dont worry at all about avg stack, but perhaps dont try as many river bluffs if can preserve a stack to outchip the shorties at table. The money is still at the end of the tournament.

Once get decent notes you can start picking off some maniacs with your own weak pairs when you know that they are trying to push you off a bounty.

Cheers - will have a few more punts with a tighter/freezout mentality and see how it goes.

    Great shout Jim.

I remember following that thread when he was near completion - but never read from the beginning until now.

I see some similarities - especially not being suited to DYMs

Reminded me also that I am not enough of a BRM nit - will stick to low level SNGs for a bit then hit the £2 B/Hs from £80 as well.

I wouldn't even try and bluff in the first couple of levels of a low stakes BH. Look for good hands that can make better hands on the flop and go to value town.

    Don't slow play premium hands.

Don't be afraid to go to war pre flop with AK. You'd be surprised what will call all in when you hold it!

I say don't bluff, but if you pick up a strong draw then fill your boots; its advantageous to be stacked early doors in a BH.

FRIDAY (not 13th but felt like it) PART I

What a horrid session that was.

No discipline - where did that BRM go?
    Multi-tabling different formats - at 1 point had 4 tables - PLO8 MTT, PLO8 dym, NLHE 6max, NLHE B/H open
    Played spewy
Run a bit bad at times too

Even tried a H/U hyper having just read DOHs diary and run into a straight flush early doors - claw back then lose a flip AK<55.

    Terrible.

B/R had been on the slide from the previous night with a few failed all-in sats trying to get into the main.

Was now back down to low £50s.

OK get a grip - back to basics - stop mixing formats and remember BRM...

FRIDAY (not the 13th and lucky for me) PART II

1st fix was in place - single table and back to the low stakes 6max for B/R and best format

Won 2/3 £1's which is good
Lost 1/1 £2    which was fine too - lost a flip when 4 handed

Then saw the £2.20 at 2.20 was running and thought why not - have to admire Rainmans cohones for the promotion of this event - saw it had just started so had a punt.

    BOOMIO!

    Phantom662400001£35.52murphy0602£21.12dso26003£14.40DAD66604£10.56meatloaf1105£7.68phiop06£6.72Baloney6607
Now I could go on and on about what an amazing achievement this is - winning my first ever entry in this renowned tournament...

But then I would lose so much ability to rib Rich Orford - so I'll have to stay totally humble.

I do like the structure 5000 chips and 12 min blinds - fantastic.

You can even push people off pots - sometimes - and without a hand - ie play poker - love it.

kind of emphasises why i dont like B/Hs as much although I am determined to suss them out and follow the good advice.

Now in my head I played like Phil Ivey and totally smashed it.

I will sit down and review hands though - I do know I had a purple patch of starting hands mid session which always helps.

But I did have a sticky start and was below starting stack for a while.

I was also big chip leader for a bit.

Lost lead - then built it up on very long FT and cash bubble. It was a strange bubble I was on a 3 handed table and we had 150k chips between us. Other table had 4 with only 90k between us. Felt like suggesting in the chat we all agree to sit out until bubble bursts but instead starting finding spots and built a nice healthy chip lead.

Final table, first 2 bust quite quickly then a lot of play 4 handed, before in a run of not many hands it was all over. Soon after the 4th busted I won a flip v 2nd stack JJ > AK and so go HU with huge advantage, few hands in and my 77 holds up on another flip v K8s.

WP Murphy on 2nd who had been nursing an extremely short stack on the other table on the bubble and played it exceptionally well to recover. He also caused my only setback at the FT slow playing JJ having hit a J on flop (I had the other J) and making a polarising river jam which I called.

Earlier in the day I was on the verge of taking a break so the main thing is I recognised I had lost control and got it back. Way more important than the bink I think. Next requirement is to not lose control in the first place!

Happy days - got to love this game.

    B/R now £88.18

Should also add WP to Sky for making this available on mobiles.

I hadnt thought through how long the tourney would be given the structure.

I ended up winning it in the queue at my local chippy!

Dont think anyone noticed the mini fist pump and big smile.

Time for a bit of perspective on yesterday.

Been through the exit hands and not too much to complain about really - lost mainly flips, one cooler 99 ran into TT, and the shove or call seemed justified each time given stack sizes / situation except one.

    55 < A8 6max

    99<TT 6max

    AK<55 hu hyper

MTT rebuy 66<AT (called aipf – opponent had been shoving regularly pre but even so I had >20bbs so should have passed)

    B/H 77<A8s

I know exit hands dont tell the full story. In some cases bad play earlier may have cost not the exit hand but generally played ok.

The problem was the lack of focus and regging for anything that was going (and even a HU hyper because nothing else was)

Chasing action is a bit of a tilt red flag.

There were 2 PLO8 losses in there too - 1 shoved light after a card and situation dead run and got looked up - other hand pot committed with a good but not perfect starting hand AK63ds and had to call when still had low draw and nit flush draw.

Luckily I did retain some composure and won those 2 6max and the deep stack.

Thought it important to check back before I play again though.

    To help with the focus

A few rules to try and keep me on the straight and narrow:

    1. Bankroll: It will be £2 bi for any mtt, £3 bi for any 6max and £3 bi for any dym (unless I go for the PLO8 bravery cross again).

    2. A session will only be NL or PLO8 and NEVER both!

    3. 2 tables max - unless I am 100% free from distractions in which I case I may up the rate if comfortable.

    4. Tracking I am going to start tracking mtt results too - starting from scratch now and see how the roi and profit stacks up against 6max.

Generally not too worried about the PLO8 as it is purely for the fun/learning that I am playing these - If I keep up a win rate of 60% and make a few pennies from the 100 game challenge then all the better.

    The winners journey!

Thought I had better review the win luck/skill - obviously had luck goes without saying really

Key was a couple of purple patches to accumulate - good use of aggression to build - especially on bubble.

Final close out could have gone other way but was ahead on last 3 all-ins and luck held.

Up early doors AKs made flush – think I got the most out of hand getting a river call from a pair of 9s (5900)

Lose 4 hands running down to (4830)

    -          - Give up jj to pot size turn bet with q568 board and 2 to act behind me.

    -          - Folded bb

    -          - Jj again! A63all clubs 3T and fold to a hefty river bet

    -          - Call raise from btn with 9T and have to give up post

Bit later lose another 1200 ATs shoved on at turn A6JJ (now 3840)

Another +1k gone with 55 facing river shove A82QQ board – I had raised pre and cbet.(now 2300)

    Momentum swing…

    3 consecutive hands…

    -          - Double up AhT on T96hearts flop reraise all-in and called by Jh9 and hold (4860)

    -          - 67s had u/d str8 draw which missed but bluff river (5805)

    -          - AAvAQ – gets to river with double paired board and checked down (6975)

+2750 Double up strange river call TT 222xx board called with A5? (11055)

Setback JdTd on J9d5d board but get customers end up folding to river shove and opponent makes 2 pair with K9.(8417)

Another setback open with 22 get customer after cbet and end up folding to shove (6347)

AA raise pre but lose customer post (8442)

33 hits f/h on QQ3 flop – keep customer and extract value from 66 (13342)

    Nothing happens….

Then another big swing 4 winning hands running

    -          - Raise with QQ over 2 limpers from sb to take 900 with no callers

    -          - QQ next hand! This time 2 limpers again – I shove instead of just raising and get a call from 44 and hold for a near double up

    -          - Make TTT from 9T

    -          - AT ai v KT on Txx flop holds and after these 4 hands – now (39707) and chip leader

Bit later build an 18k pot pre with KK then shove on Jxx flop no call (49707)

Set back make a bad call with Ahigh flush on JJTTx board – surprise (not) to find f/h (43407)

Over 50k when take out shorter stack TTvK6 (50846)

Drop a few with missed flush draw and opponent betting streets (45486)

Minraise button with 36s called from bb then hit the flush and stack opponent who had A but didn’t hit nut. (53346)

River a nut straight to move up to (60246)

Get a bit lucky when get resistance to aggression with 22 but holds up through river (67846)

A few minor swings each way then hit 2 pair with KQ but suprisingly get quite a bit of action from JJ (89046)

Only setback on final table with Jx hitting J66Kx board and opponent got value from their JJ (66745)

Build slowly with a few small pots

92s allowed in from bb then makes a flush to win 20k pot (80647)

We are now 4 handed and I proceed to bust the last 3 players in fairly quick succession

Have 62 on bb and limper lets me hit 2 pair and stack them (116507)

    JJ v AK aipf (194396)

Soften up HU opponent with 12k and 2k pot wins, then…

    77 v K8 aipf (240000)

Sorry for the hard to read nature of the above posts - there is spacing when I look at it in edit mode but when posted the para breaks dont work?

Anyway dont expect its of much interest even if readable, but if anyone wants to pull any of the hands apart I'll happily post em up.

    Thanks @Gran

Serious cooler happening at the moment on the 6max.

Didnt play over the weekend at all as busy with birthday stuff - watched The Imitation Game on Sunday, interesting film, a few levels to it.

Yesterday started well with a £3dym win but 6max just running terribly.

First game doing fine, then AQ<AJ and AT<74 (it was suited and flushed) both hands were aipf against shorter stacks and Im under 2 bigs.

bit of mini run good to spin back up my own monster 74 holding up v 62 on the bb, 98 > K7 then a run of shoveable hands which are not called. meanwhile 2nd stack takes a beating and I am equal 2nd with big chip leader. SNG dynamics mean I should obviously be targeting the other s/stack but wake up with AKs on button - shove and called by BB with AT and I'm out.

Next game going well and lose 99 < AK on bubble
Other exits 66 <AT and KK < AJ

Actually the 66 game had made a mistake shortly before 2 pair improving to higher 2 pair and making a str8 for opponent who I should have got rid of.

Still keep calm and carry on - make those plays in those spots everytime and with bigger money up top worth it to risk the bubble.

started on the daytime mtt run only 3 in one cash, one blank, one head only for a small loss overall. Will post some figures when I have 10 under my belt.

PLO8 started ok with a win then played 2 on my phone in the evening (sorry if anyone was trying to chat) one loss standard 4 way action run of the cards when in shove mode and one mistimed move early on pot committing myself and running into trip 5s on the dry looking 955 board.

Well, said I would post an MTT update after 10 - actually played 11 and not pretty

I did win one scheduled tourney, however I cannot call it an MTT because there was only 1 table running - yes I crushed a 5 entry b/h!

Only one other cash (3rd and only 3 paid!) and a few heads here in there.

I am playing too much and not with good BRM (note a few £5 comps which definitely not rolled for)

A lot of run bad - definitely some play bad at times.

Don't bluff early stages (cost me a few bad starts with cbets but getting that out of my play in these now)

Seems to be a good plan to play small ball poker in position when going down the streets in these games.

I was surprised to see some big "names" on the £5 freezout last night and even had DivsDreams on my table in a £5 this morning. I did own him for 1 hand (not really I had just gone down to c100 chips and was all in with A5 he did the decent thing and raised everyone else off the pot and I spiked 2 5's to beat his JJ).

I am getting tilted - even got a bit spikey in a PLO8 chatbox today which is most unlike me - player gives me the "lucky" after I hit a river card. In this situation it is a pet hate of mine -  fact was I was ahead preflop when the chips went in so never consider that situation "lucky".

Couple of hands earlier I had been all-in on flop v another player with the nut low only for that to be counterfeit by the river (which is unlucky). Couple of hands later I lose to player who called me lucky - he rivered a flush having been behind on the high and would have been on the low which didn't hit. Gave him a "nh"

So time for a break - Mrs P's birthday this weekend - eldest son back from uni - parents eve for younger son - and me and Mrs P are having a short break next week.

Also much going on work wise and I have some coursework to do.

I'll check out the forum still and at some point will review my MTTs and post a few hands.

I have over £4 in rewards coming (high for me!) which will take me back over the £50 mark and I'll start again when refreshed.

Well, it's all gone a bit pete tong B/R wise...

Signs were there in earlier posts - poor B/R management the main cause sprinkled with continued run-bad, a pinch of tilt and some play bad.

Had one day between the weekend and my trip away where I lost over £30.

I don't have time to post all the details - but MTT run continued bad - lost 2 BIs on cash 4nl coolered QQ<AA and then QQ < AQ. I will update the stats but not sure MTT results are complete so the public shaming will have to wait.

Main issue definitely BRM - I could have taken the losses at lower levels and hopefully hit some rungood to turn numbers around - now I am not rolled to enter the levels that cost me the losses and so it will be a long road back now.

Workload will dictate low volumes over the next week - so I will stick to the odd SNG anyway.

    6max NL £1s and PLO8 dyms 60p and £1

Only MTTs will be FR for now.

See me on anything bigger and please call me out on it!

Anyway to get a bit of perspective - This time last year Mrs P was being rushed back to hospital after a setback when allowed home for her birthday.

This year we had a nice break away from everything - quality time with Mrs P and managed to switch off from work etc. Spa break in Cheshire - extremely nice hotel - patchy service though so cant give a wholehearted recommendation.

Did have a couple of nice meals out the Thatch in Faddeley? Nr Nantwich and Amici's in Nantwich both great meals/great service.

Reading the paper and saw the news and some analysis on the Skypoker sale.

Firstly my thoughts go out to the employees at Skypoker - bound to be uncertain times and coming over Christmas that isn't good.

However, reading up has to be good that sky have kept 20% - hopefully that means the continuation of 861?

The investors will no doubt want the continued exposure via the TV side of things - although ultimately as investors they will want to turn a profit on the inevitable resale in a couple of years or so and will be looking to increase revenues and cut costs to achieve that.

Only thing we can do here is give the current staff a big +1. If only there was a high profile industry award with Sky and some worthy contributors nominated in categories open to a public vote - oh wait!

A lot of whinging about promotions on the forum- seems Skypoker are only allowed to give free money to the benefit of the most worthy punters (worthy being very subjective and heavily biased by the playing habits of the individuals concerned).

"As a high roller reg it is disgusting that sky dare to give a FR to players who don't play here"

"As a low roller rec it is disgusting that sky gives all the rewards to the high roller regs"

Perspective is a funny old thing.

Just like to say +1 for the Christmas promotions - free money given a variety of ways - cant accuse sky of being lazy there as it must take a whole lot more effort to do that than 1 for the month or 1 a week.

No doubt not many will be tailored for low stakes 6max specialists or new found PLO8 enthusiasts but I'm not complaining!
