Sitting out

Have u played in a torniment to find someone sitting out on your table???

do u find it fair for this player to then suddendly play hands when there in trouble to make the bubble?

is it fair when this player holds a big percentage of the chips and then sits out??

although there is no offical rule to this, it is not sporting behaviour.

whats your views on it and should there be a rule bought in before all torniments and sit and go's become automated.

    This is a point that has been raised before :), the thing is, it is their money, they may play as they wish, players are allowed to be away from the table, even in live games, there may be a good reason they are away, connection problems for example, comfort break :)

    Nope its his perogative, if he has all the chips, sitting out is exactly the same as folding every single hand - which wudnt be classed as cheating wud it? - I dont understand why anyone would opt for this strategy, but you see some crazy things at a poker table, it wouldn't surprise me.

    Edit - me saying its not 'cheating' is abit strong, "its not, not fair" lol

    its a safe bet if your holding the chips thats a fair point.  but to actually sit out rather than actually seeing and playing your cards.  its like bolton going 1-0 up to manchester utd then having all 11 players stand on the goal line lol. there might not be rule breaking going on but its not cricket and can only pee people off

    no offence to bolton btw just used as reference lol

    i tend to see this more in DYM as you only have to beat 3 to cash. In fact i'm in a game now where one guy has sat out till there are 4 of us left and now he's shoving every hand to get his stack back up. Yes it's annoying but he's paid his money so he can do what he likes with his chips.

    by the way, he's cashed now so i suppose it works

    You really should re-examine what game you think you are participating in. It's poker.

    I myself dont mind it when a player sits out!

    I find them easier to beat when they dont play!

    My advice would be to just steal their blinds and build your stack with no resistance.

    Like i say, id look at it from a positive!

    Sitting out is actually better than folding every hand in certain situations.  Say you have a big stack getting close to the bubble of a satellite. 
    All the other players know you are sitting out so when it is ur bb and a late pos raises, many think he is doing it cos u are sitting out and it will be an easy blind to pinch.  So the button knowing this may make a move which may well result in big pots being played and ppl busting out, putting you closer to the money or seat or w/e

    I don't understand how anyone can see an opponent sitting out as being bad?  They cannot win a hand if they sit out and it's your job to relieve them of their blinds.
    There is some moral considerations to consider, especially if playing HU, where it may be unfair to steal blinds if opponent is sitting out due to discons etc but tbh..... unless they were a friend i would be scooping chips quick time as i would expect exactly the same in return should i be sat out for whatever reason.
    Opponents sitting out gives you an advantage.....take it!

    Some people are actually being sort of considerate here. They sit out to protect their stack which they would be doing if they were sat in anyway. They may have decided to fold to the money (this only happens a lot in DYMs near the end where they have the stack to survive, or if it's me then at the begining of tournaments).

    Rather than make you wait while they fold or forget to fold if they are doing something else, then they sit out to allow those remaining to play at their own pace

    I sometimes sign up to tournies and don't turn up for first 15 - 20 mins as i'm busy, But i don't think most people would consider that unfair

    There is absolutely no disadvantage to anyone if a player sits out. So whats the problem? You just take their chips easy.

    not entirely true, if you are on a table in a mtt, with the majority being  "away" for a long time, then you are potentially missing out on profit that could have been made from playing good hands.

    if you think that you can cash in a mtt, solely based on stealing away blinds, you are very wrong.
    it is a totally different beast to a 6 player sng.

    yes you can. If everyone is away except you then you steal all the chips and win. If there are 3 players on your table away, then you should be able to at least take one stack and therefore double up through stealing. how can you complain that they sit out??? I just dont get it. How do you play against really tight players? Think of players sitting out as super tight players lol.
