It's that time of year again, time to start the annual WSOP thread.
Any questions, comments, chit-chat, anything, post them on here, the thread is for everyone, whether you are going to WSOP 2015 or not.
We have this thread every year, & it's generally very popular.
As you know, Viva Las Vegas has 35 packages to Vegas this year, so hopefully this may turn into a sweat thread for many of them.
Before we start, I am fortunate to be on the WSOP "Accredited Media" list, so I get sent all the blurb building up to the WSOP, & after each event concludes. Because he is generally so knowledgeable & helpful as to the WSOP, I generally forward that info to FCHD via e-Mail, & I'll do so aqain this time round. No idea if he wants to help again, it is very time consuming, & he gets precious little by way of thanks. So it'd be great of he did, but if not, that's OK too, he owes us nothing.
Off we jolly well go, then.

Key dates?
It starts on Wednesday May 27th.
It ends (excuding the November Nine) on Tuesday July 14th.
Main Event? Starts Sunday July 5th.
10 days play in total, being.....
3 x Day One
3 x Day Two's, but confusingly, 2 take place on the same day, so effectively 2 days.
Then it goes Days 3, 4, 5, 6, & on Day 7 they play down to nine.
There are NO REST DAYS this year, though of course players get a break during Day One & Day Two.
All Final Tablists are Guaranteed a minimum of $1,000,000.
Irrespective of number of starters (assuming at least 5,000) the Main Event will pay a minimum of 1,000 places.
If you have not been to Vegas or the WSOP before, a 6 part "Guide to Vegas" is being published by Sky Poker, part 1 is HERE
Part 2 will follow today or Monday, I imagine.
Sky Poker TV are toying with the idea of doing a You Tube version of these, too, just snappy & zingy 2 minute pieces to camera, for those who can't be bothered to read all that stuff. Will let you know about that, but it might just start next week. Or not.....
Ignoring, for a moment, Viva Las Vegas, anyone here planning to head over for the WSOP?
If so, let us know, & we'll get a little list started, the more the merrier, as we can sweat all of you.
Me?
Not 100% decided yet, but I'm hoping to go across for most of June, just to play all the PLO & PLO8 stuff, fingers crossed.
If I do, I'll try & do my usual Vegas Blogs for Sky Poker most days. It won't be every day, & I plan to take a little non-poker break in the middle of it & head across to Los Angeles, & catch the Pacific Surfliner down to San Diego. Bucket list job, that.
Will Sky Poker TV be there?
There are one or two details still to be ironed out, so it's not 100% certain yet, but I'd reckon it is at least 80% they will be there.
Dates? Pretty much around the time the Viva Las Vegas qualifiers will be in town.
Dan will be the man, just a 1 camera jobbie, with, fingers crossed (or not) me on the other side of the camera.
We hope to set up Base Camp at the Rio Media Centre, so the VLV winners (who will be staying at the luxurious Palazzo, which is some way away, on the Strip) have a sort of meeting point at the Rio before it starts, & at breaks. The Media Centre is smack-bang next to the playing areas of the WSOP.
The plan would be to spend around half of the time recording time-precious stuff for immediate Yuu Tube uploading on ther Sky Poker You Tube Channel, & the rest of the time building a reservoir of filmed Content to take Sky Poker TV through the Autumn. The interviews we did with, for example, Little Danny Negreanu, have proven very popular, & so we'll try & get a few like that again.
Must stress, some details still gotta be sorted, so it's not 100% certain, but there's a good chance it will.

Hard to imagine, but Vegas really is smack-bang in the middle of a desert, absolute wilderness all around. It does not "sprawl", it has precise & defined boundaries. It's a bit hot, too, notice the complete absence of grass, trees, or any foliage. Verdant it is not.
Unless I win that, I won't have the time nor money to play any other WSOP events, but I do have an eye on the poker schedules the other hotels do. Golden Nugget one looks good with a $100k event and Aruba sats, couple of cheaper events at the Venetian (Bounty hunters as well) and just waiting on the Planet Hollywood confirmed schedule.
Could be an expensive week
Hot drinks on me if we're out in the desert at the same time, Tikay
I'm going out to Vegas between the 17th and 24th of June. It's the first time i would have been there over the wsop and it looks like I can only play 1 event (38) as i can only play Hold Em and don't want to buy in for a $10,000 event.
Just wondering if anyone knows if any of the casinos run more tournaments over this time or is it just the usual schedule they have that runs all year round?
Thanks
Barrie
Buy-ins? Every level, from about $40 up.
For real value, & fun (terrible Dealers, but that's half the charm of it) go Downtown & play Golden Nugget or Binions. Buy-ins there are very sensibly priced.
Should warn you of one thing though, & sit down, as this may hurt. The Average Reg Fee, combined with various other "add-ons" (described as "Staff Tip" etc), is somewhere between 17.5% & 20%. Think I saw one yesterday which was 22%.
I'll stick a link up in the next post, which may assist.
Here's a link to most of the Vegas Schedules during the WSOP period. It is not complete yet, as rooms like Binions don't announce until April.
(Mods - this is simply as spreadsheet, it has no commercial links).
You'll need to scroll across to see all of the Rooms.
Then, at the very bottom, there are several tabls, including "RAKE".
From that you can see, for example, that Golden Nugget & Orleans charge between 16.67% & 20%. Binions charge about the same.
Venetian varies, but goes up to 18.5%.

The "price of poker", eh?
Maybe we ought to start a list, & keep it updated.
Here goes then.....

For those at home who want to follow your progress (results are published daily by most Rooms) your real name will be needed, though you should NOT post it on this thread unless you feel comfy doing so.
Think we can add Viva Las Vegas qualifiers (so far) , too, so that's these 5......
The Bromleys usually head across, too, as does Thewy, & I believe Mr Ambo will also be there. We (anyone, not just me) can add names as & when.
Thanks Ben, I'll update the list thing.
Staying at Palazzo then. Very nice.
During the time the VLV players are there, I'll set up camp in the Rio Media Centre, usual corner of the room, you know the drill. Latte, 3 sweeteners please.
Vegas Register as at 20th March.
Independents.....
