This will be my first live event to. Looking forward to it. I'll be driving down from Lancaster on friday morning, what time does DTD open? Posted by MrJoeBlogs
Don't know what time it's open but it starts at 1pm and they say to get there half hour earlier. Good luck and safe journey. See you there.

Opens somewhere between 12 and half 12 - think probably it will be 12. If you get there really early can always go for breakfast at frankie and benny's!

In Response to What's the best way to approach the UKPC tables for a newbie?? : Generally from the rear of their chair although some players merge their range by coming from the side. I generally lead with a left hand to the back of the chair to pull it back but I know the more old school thinking is with the right. You'll see some online whizzes flip the chair round and sit in the reverse merge position, don't let this intimidate you, they are more than likely about to spend a lot of money for a back rub. Hope this helps. Posted by TommyD

Hi Joe,
Yes, you can. Ideally, Driving Licence or Passport.
This will be my first live event to. Looking forward to it. I'll be driving down from Lancaster on friday morning, what time does DTD open? Posted by MrJoeBlogs
Driving Licence is fine.
DTD is well organised and there will be plenty of peeps about so don't be scared to approach them and ask, so you should be ok.
If you don't know anyone when you get in, by all means come & give us a shout, just look for the TPT shirts or at the bar

Thanks Stephen. I know I've got loads and loads to learn regarding playing poker, but I will say this some of the really good players don't like being on my table when I've got a large stack. Some of the comments could be taken the wrong way e.g oh great end up on a table and last person I wanted to see, hi dark. I take it all in good fun and spirits so must be doing something right
I definitely agree with the advice to enjoy yourself. The idea of being totally silent and not wanting to give away that you are nervous so not talking is all well and good but it sure makes for a miserable day. Many people that ask questions just like chatting and socialising, it's part of poker.
In 6-max, more than other types of poker, I think people get a bit carried away with playing hands. They have told themselves they have to be aggro and they 3-bet more than they usually would and never fold an ace from any position. We get a lo of chips in this one and people think they can afford some loose calls.
I would say play as if it were a full ring game, so a bit tighter than an average player, until the antes come in. That means folding A9 and K10 and QJ and worse in an unopened pot and not 3-betting with A10, KJ and 66. Make sure you don't call out of position with tough to play hands like AJ or Q10 suited.
Following this strategy will mean you don't play many hands for a couple of hours but you get the feel of the other players, the room, the chips and the cards. The waitress has made you a nice cup of tea and you have a solid table image. Now you can start to open up a little (but that still means playing IN POSITION and not calling too much).

A lot of sense from MrC, as always, even if he can't tell one winning blog from another :-)
Play the game that got you there makes sense, and then add in a bit of tightening as above, particularly for the OOP hands, to give you time to see how different the play is from what you are used to, and to find out who the table pests are (so you can try to avoid tangling with them unnecessarily).
QJ is a magic hand though. Call any aipf 3-bet shove with it. You'll probably be dominated but most of the time you'll flop a straight, or xJJ at worst. At least that's what's been happening to me recently. 90% of my live tourny exits recently have been to it mainly or similar (KJ, J9). Actually maybe it only works against me so possibly best not to try it on anyone else, and you won't be able to do it to me as I won't be there (see blog comment above).
Just refreshed my memory on all the advice given. Thank you to you all means a lot. Have got butterflies, but butterflies are good. When went to Milton Keynes I had no butterflies what so ever and had no real expectation of what was going to happen. At least I was well looked after by Alex and the rest of them. Really enjoyed it, I would have loved to have played a few live games but when you got kids and can't get a sitter it's a bit difficult. But I know I will survive and just enjoy every single minute of being there and really looking forward to meeting everyone at DTD. Just need to get a good nights sleep and not wake up at stupid oclock like I have been doing lately. Wishing everyone a great time at DTD. I will be counting the breaks one at a time and hopefully to Day 2. If I don't make it then there's always next year. My 6 year old son has told everyone I play sky poker and I'm going to a massive tournament playing live. He loves it and is so excited for me. So any chance of me keeping it quiet went out the window. People are asking if it's going to be live streamed? I said I haven't got a clue. Well loads of stuff to do before tomorrow. See you at the tables later. Good luck all.
Love that your son is bragging about you, you'll now officially be the coolest Mum in school. Imagine if you won £50,000? The kid would instantly be upgraded to hero status for the rest of his school life.
Re: live stream I don't think so. There will be tournament updates online though. It sounds as though we might have a few people doing it so they 'should' be quite frequent.
