In Response to Re: The (imaginatively titled) Orford Poker Journal 2016 : Mate, I'd play Tikay over Rondon right now. Don't get me started on the Baggies. We're an absolute shambles and I want the manager and chairman out. As for Barry Fry- I'm sure he'd be funny, but would he understand poker and/or be able to work the software on the ipad? I'm gonna guess at 'no'...!

I hadn't realised until we played you that the manager was unpopular with the fans. Not too late to get dragged into a relegation battle if they play like that every week.

    Update- 25th Feb.

Have played quite a lot over the week- the usual main MTTs when I could but mainly I'd been gunning to satellite into the UKPC.

I came close in a couple of semi-finals including being the pure bubble in one, which was tough. But then, on the very last throw of the dice on the Sunday just gone I entered the last semi and crushed it, easily taking a seat in the big final that night.

The timing of it meant that I was thrown straight into the acton as a late reg the moment I'd finished the semi, so there was no time to reset, take stock etc, I was playing a £240 seat to win a £1100 one. A huge deal for me.

Alas it was Simon Hemsworth who was my judge, jury and executioner. Early doors I made a massive lay-down of pocket aces to him on a fairly coordinated board after he set me all-in. I strongly think I was behind, but the betting leading up to that point meant I'd taken a massive chip hit.

But I fought my way back into contention and with 15 seats available I'd made my way down to the last 30 or so.

I then got into another big pot with Simon and this time turned the nut straight. He set me all-in, I snap-called, only to see him on exactly the same pocket holding of A-6. So we were goiing to chop the pot.

Except for one thing. Simon's cards were both suited, and the turn had brought a backdoor flush draw into play. Which of course, he completed on the river once all the money had gone in.

It all went off in the blink of an eye and for a moment I couldn't understand what had happened as I was sure we wre chopping. Of course, the action always moves on brutally without any sombre reflection for casualties, so I just sat there whilst play continued for a while quietly brooding as to how close I'd come to winning a seat in Nottingham.

In fact I've been gutted about it for days as that last-minute semi victory had me believing I was destined to play in the UKPC, but of course fate had other plans.

There is an upside to this story mind you, because last night I picked myself up, dusted myself down and played a few of the evening's main MTTs...

I made the final table of the Mini event and came 2nd in the 9pm £2,500 Bounty Hunter!

I posted a profit on the night of £331. So, no complaints there.

Funny that I should come second yet again this month, as I'd only just recorded a series of videos for YouTube in the studio looking at why I might have finished 2nd in 3 MTTs in Feb (not-so-subtle brag, I know, I know) and where I could improve my heads-up play.

So, having taken all that advice on board, I promptly went out and finished second in my next heads-up again! Good to know I was listening. ;-) Tbf the guy did have 6-1 chip lead when it began though.

Good luck to everyone who did make it to Nottingham- I will be living it vicariously through you! :-)

Unreal. Thanks for letting me know, Rob.

Me in the Top 100 Best Players?

Is this the first sign of the apocalypse?

Better whisper it quietly round these parts, we don't want to cause a full-scale panic.

very well played last night rich.

you are the biggest climber in the top 100 Best Player league, up 34 positions.

added to your two recent cashes means that you are now the 53rd best player.

Wow. 53rd? I'm delighted with that. Thanks for pointing it out to me Rob. Love your site btw, I regularly drop in on it now to take a look at the Best lists.

Must admit, I got a little lucky last night when I ended up heads-up as my opponent got disconnected for a decent spell. I honestly thought he'd given up on the game as it was mega-late and he'd been playing a little lary up to heads-up, (going repeatedly all-in with his big stack and clearly any two cards).

Then, as soon as we got heads-up, on the first hand, he was 'away' which seemed a bit of a coincidence. I had a legitimate hand anyway (pocket 8s) and raised. He obv insta-folded.

And then he stayed away. So I started raising his blinds, thinking he'd wanted the game over and done with. I know I did. I was really tired. But just when I thought it was definitely the case that he'd gone, he came back about 5 minutes later by which time his 2-1 chip lead had been reversed.

Don't know what the etiquette is here. I didn't know the bloke from Adam, we'd had no previous chat/relationship. So should I wait a certain amount of time in case he reconnects? And what is that time? Or, should anyone aspiring to be a lethal poker player, just go in for the kill whenever they get an edge like that? I mean, we're not doing this for charity, are we?

I honestly don't know how I'd feel if someone I didn't know did it to me heads-up in a game. I like to think I'd be quite philosophical about it and think 'Fair enough, I'd do the same'. Which is what I did!

Any one got any thoughts on this? Was I right to plough on taking advantage of something that fell into my lap and I hadn't engineered?

Or should I have waited on the offchance a total stranger comes back to the table.. assuming he hadn't permanently gone?

Anyway, other than that slight moral dilemma- was well pleased with the win. :-)

Gunning for the Top 50 next!

    thanks for those comments, rich.

with so many second places this year i was hoping that you would win one instead.  to me, it is like using that little slider switch on the gear stick of the 1970's triumph stag marked "overdrive" to go up yet another gear.

It was just under £200 in a late night £1000 GTD BH for an £11 buy-in.

    109 runners.

Interestingly with just 4 players left I was chip leader and hadn't taken a single bounty. I don't know if that represents some kind of record. And more to the point, I don't know if that's a record that anyone would aspire towards!

You'll be chirping non-stop now, thank goodness I don't have to do a Show with you this week.

    Hi all,

Haven't posted on here for a while and I'd hate people to think I only sing when I'm winning, so here I am. Hope all is going well on your poker journeys.

On a totally unrelated note...I entered the 10.30pm £1500 Speed Bounty Hunter tonight.

    It went ok. *cough*

    ;-)

I think the biggest takeaway from this is...if you haven't heard from me for a while, assume I've been losing!
