Ironically, if other players are like me, they are more likely to be at home during the European Championships because they want to watch them. I have scheduled holidays for May and late July.

The peak holiday times are August & last two weeks of May - school holidays - so are best avoided if possible.

I wondered about running a PLO8 HU competition as well - there is certainly a growing demand. It could be run totally seperately or at the same time, like the doubles events at Wimbledon.

My only problem was how long the rounds took, could've been much shorter IMO.

Personally I thought the timings were about right. It kept moving along but allowed for players who were on holidays or worked awkward times to play.

For a Euro champs style HU comp...

To keep exactly to the format of the footie = 24 entrants, 6 groups of 4 teams. Is that too limited?

It will have to be first come first served for registration and I will aim to get that up and running by the end of the month.

    For ploppers...

I am thinking of trialling a ladder league. Starting positions drawn at random then you can challenge players in the 3 positions above you - if you win you take their place and the other players move down. If you lose you are frozen out from challenging again for a set time.

@Chiggypig Timing of rounds is a tricky one, I was trying to keep it inclusive.

Setting a short time coud be counter-productive, with fewer players joing potentially if they dont feel they can commit, or more tough decisions for me when players aren't getting fixtures played.

Obviously having rounds drag on isn't great either so some sort of time level is definitely needed.

When there a lot of fixtures to play in the ealry rounds, or we happen to hit a holiday period then we need to be flexible. It is meant to be a fun community event and I want to keep that feel.

Wasnt there 99 (?) participants last time ?  If you aim for 24 , that a lot of hungry mouths left out..

Enfin je me rappelai le ****-aller d’une grande princesse à qui l’on disait que les paysans n’avaient pas de pain, et qui répondit : Qu’ils mangent de la brioche.

HUFA II will be open to as many who wnat to enter.

For Euro Camps HU initial thought was to run it along the same lines as the tourney - i.e. exactly the same draw, leagues, progressions from groups etc. It will save me from having to do draws each time I'll just do one - each player gets a team.

However that does leave only 24 spots available.

I suppose we could have x2 duplicate draws so England A and England B if you get me. Then the real final is when the 2 winners play each other?

Given it will run in spring and not autumn/winter I would expect fewer entrants than HUFA.

Remember there is qualifying to reach the last 24, you could do similar...or you could have qualifying to reach last 32 and have 8 groups in the finals.

Qualfying rounds will keep the masses entertained.

Field sizes 48 , 64 or  96 etc should run themselves after 1 draw until the league stages.

Vegas Viva Las is on at the same time , so there might be voids in the leagues.  There could be people who cant play due to forum chat bans etc. A few reserve players could get a 2nd chance.

although , If I qualify for Vegas, I would probably forfit it to play in this Euro championship.

I think each player should be drawn a country and are competing for that country. If that country wins the real euro's Sky should give them a seat into some decent mtt!

Ger (keep those prizes coming Sky) lol

I didn't participate in the last one as I only play 3 days a week and thought it would be unfair to others /difficult to arrange games if I somehow luck boxed through the first round, I would like to play this one, but the same criteria applies...thoughts anyone?

I myself missed the last HUFA. I'd love to try one if you were to do a new one

Thanks for the bump Mr Cheez, must have taken you a while to find it.

Firstly just to clarify HUFA II will happen, starting in September, running along pretty much the same lines as HUFA I.

As for a Euro themed one, seemed a good idea at the time.

    However...

My workload has shot up and I definitely cannot complain about that, but it does mean time for poker is down.

I have booked a holiday slap bang in the middle of the Euros.

Combination of those 2 means I don't think I will have the time to run it and if I did I would have to make it run to start pretty much straight away and finish by 19 June. Or take a mid-season break which will kind of lose the connection to the tournament itself.

HUFA II will be fine for you Tom.

I allowed a generous amount of time, the idea was to be fully inclusive and give a few weeks each round, so that people with intermittent and contrasting schedules could still find a way of getting the match played.

I hear you are becoming a bit of a PLO8 whizz so maybe the PLO8 ladder would interest you too?
