    RIP George Eastham
Scored our winning goal in our only trophy in our history
Was in the 1966 world cup winning squad
He was instrumental in the change of freedom for footballers to transfer to other clubs without the wage cap so it was this man that made most footballers millionaires

That's very sad. I better remember his time with Arsenal, he was such a lovely footballer. Were it not for him, the old "retain and transfer" system would still be in place. Every modern footballer owes a debt of gratitude to George.

It was his transfer to Arsenal from Newcastle which caused the change in the laws , went to court and everything

Indeed - this is a good read....

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Eastham

    ....which includes this breathtaking para....

"However, during his time at Newcastle United Eastham fell out with the club, with Eastham disputing whether the house the club had supplied him was habitable, the unsatisfactory secondary job that the club had arranged (as maximum wage rules at the time forbade clubs from paying the market rate) and their attempts to stop him playing for the England U23 team."

Times were very different for footballers then.
