Mine is a blunder, nothing to do with a set of queens. When registering I couldn't use my usual username because it was already taken (by me it turned out, I didn't realise Sky Bet and Sky Poker accounts are one and the same, I'd had a little used Sky Bet account for a couple of years). So I chose GaryQQQ as an alternative on the fly, not intending it to be my screen-name. However, I must have typed it in the wrong box and that's what it became.
Great post StayOrGo, very interesting, but acting's the hardest profession to break into spending 95% + of the time unemployed chasing the dream. I know my son's chasing the same thing, did a 3 year acting degree at acting school and has to work waiting/bar tender jobs etc to pay the bills waiting for "the big break". I admire your guts for giving up whats was probably a secure job to do what you want, certainly couldn't do it myself
I’ll join in. My Alias came about by trying to be too clever making a play on words and then miss-typing. As a fully paid up kilt wearing, bagpipe playing Scot I thought I would put our national emblem the Thistle, into my alias. I also wear a Skean Dubh in my kilt sock but didn’t think most would understand that dubh is pronounced ‘doo’. So it should have been ‘Thistledu’ as in ‘this will do’ until I miss-typed and it ended up as thisltedu. Like a bad joke when you need to explain the punch line, that’s my story. Hope everyone is going to celebrate tonight. True to my heritage I certainly will.
I used to work in Education with a lot of foreign students who used to call me 'Prof'( professor), then during my normal antics one said "you are mad, prof", then they called me madprof from then on...suits my game style..
In my younger years, I couldn't sit still for 5 minutes, I wandered around from job to job, place to place, girlfriend to girlfriend for many more years than I care to remember.
I was/am quite a believer in fate and whenever I got in a rut, I turned to my trusted coin. A two pence piece.
I'd flip the coin (usually listening to THE CLASH in the background) and decide what to do next based on the outcome of the flip.
It was responsible for many fundamental changes in my life, job, where I lived etc. I worked in IT most of my life, but also had stints as a bookie and an actor, all down to coin flips)
I left my IT job to pursue an acting career and I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Film and Television Acting, as a result.
I can post my acting showreel here if allowed (There is some bad language in the last scene, so not sure if it's OK to post here)
However if you go to YouTube and search, "Graham Carter Showreel", you should find it.
In fact, the said "coin" was also responsible for my decision to quit my IT Contract and become a full time poker player.
I am also known for flipping a coin when playing live if undecided to call a shove and it's close to 50/50.
Gary, my son's alias "Limp2Lose", well that's TK's fault. About the time Gary set up his SkyPoker account TK was on a mission to stop people limping, he was often very animated about it on the show.
I said to Gary, "The man's right", don't forget "LIMPING IS BAD", so lets re-enforce the message, why not call yourself, "LIMP2LOSE" and the rest is history.
Funny thing is, he limps in the Small Blind all the time now, it drives me NUTS!
Around the time I signed up I was dating a a Turkish woman who was fascinated by name meanings and etymology. In hindsight she probably wasn't that fascinated.
My name, being William, derives from the Germanic Wilhelm (pronounced with a hard V which the TV analysts always neglected), a combination of two Germanic words; wil, meaning will or desire, and helm, meaning helmet.
At school I made the mistake of sharing this with my friends, and subsequently was given the unfortunate nickname, Helmet.
My nickname is ABO. I'm originally from Liverpool so I did a combination of nickname and Liverpool area telephone dialling code and came up with AB0151. Interestingly the old code was 151 but was then replaced with 0151 so both work given my nickname. On other sites I am ABO151 and on the site that is often having technical issues I am AO151 as I made a technical error when signing up which was quite prophetic...
