wifi turned off by sky poker?

Goody_AceGoody_Ace Member Posts: 206
The title might sound dramatic - but it keeps happening.

I am not talking about lag or losing connection (that happens too)
But my wifi signal disconnects only when playing on Sky poker.

I am playing poker on my tablet - wifi signal strength is strong then suddenly no bars. (and not connected notice)
I only notice as the table has stopped playing.

I have to go to wifi settings and stop and restart it - then wait while it reconnects.
This is absolutely maddening in the middle of a hand with good cards.

I know your first thoughts are 'it's my end' but it is not.
I am in direct line of sight with my router and have an 100MB connection.
It never ever disconnects with any other program that uses wifi - just Sky poker

Last night in a BH it kicked me off 3 times

Im computer savvy and it has been going on a while before I have reported it here
It is only while playing on SKY Poker.

Anyone else have the same problem?

    Hi Mr Ace

I’m so glad you have highlighted this, it happens to me also albeit not too frequently. My good lady is convinced it’s something I’m doing ( I’m far from computer savvy so was erring on the side of she may possibly be right)

disconnect every night between 9.00 and 9.05 when on sky poker - never disconnect when not. Weird!

Still don't think this should be possible but i'm not a computer expert by any means.

It has got to the point where I am very wary of playing hands slowly during this period

    Interesting.
Just started my last DYM at about 9.15pm and my wifi signal disconnects 4 times in about 3 minutes.
At the same time, my wife has no such trouble on her tablet (not playing poker).

Very rarely had wifi signal drop completely before.

I thought it was just my laptop, but now I'm not so sure.

Keeps happening to me also but not at any set time. Today and tonight been disconnected at least 5 times the last one costing me over a fifth of my stack (had 5,560 and ended with 4,040) as I raised (to 900) pre-flop in SPT semi then lost at least 2 rounds of blinds at 150/300...not happy

Misread the headline. Thought it said:-

"Wife turned off by sky poker"

    Obv in my case :)

Sky seems to need resetting about every 3 hours for me.

Might be my memory playing tricks but @Lambert180 did you have this issue ages back?

Is this even possible? Sky communicates with wifi device sending a signal to router that causes router to disconnect from interwebs. Unless there's some sort of mini DDOS type bug in Sky's software that makes the router **** out.

Fwiw I've never had this on bt home hub 5.

    Hi @kapowblamz

It's not the router that disconnects. The device using skypoker disconnects from the wifi signal. All other devices using the same wifi are okay.
At least, that is what happened to me.

    I hope that makes sense.

Twice today, both times losing my chips in play
    It's not right.
Can someone from sky look into it.
There seems to be quite a few it's happening to and probably a lot more that have not seen this post.

I'll throw my hat in the ring .. a disgrace. Another one is when you're timed out and you can hear the play going on but don't get the return box to get back into the game ... CHIPS BLEEDING AWAY when you're helpless. Its enough to drive you under the bridge with the rest of the trolls.

    Good Morning.

I'm sorry if you are having problems, & I hope the problem soon stops.

I must say, however, that "I'm computer savvy" & "wifi turned off by Sky Poker" don't equate.

Sky Poker can't "turn off the wifi", as the wifi is supplied by an ISP (Internet Service Provider).

Sky Poker use an ISP, & so do you. Sky Poker have no ability or means - let alone desire - to "turn off your wifi". It's not possible.

Disconnects do happen of course, here & on every other online poker site, & it's always regrettable. As time evolves, such things should eventually disappear.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I know it sounds impossible, but it's not a disconnect - as in disconnect from the SKY site. It actually turns the tablet wifi signal OFF
Other users of wifi in the house are not affected and have an uninterrupted signal.

The sort of 'radar symbol' disappears and the tables freeze.
I go to the network/wifi page and it is searching for networks.
It tells me mine is not in range - I can see the **** thing (router)

The only solution is to turn wifi off and on again - then it reconnects.
This takes up to 5 minutes, meanwhile your chips on the table have gone and you are blinding away.

You can see I'm not alone with this Tikay - all describing similar situations.

Whatever is causing the problem is regrettable & frustrating, I'm sure. But Sky Poker, for the reasons I explained, simply cannot "turn off your wifi".

I hope the issue is soon resolved, whatever the cause.

The poker client (DC or browser) won't even know that it's using a wireless connection. It's operating at too high a level. The operating system is responsible for directing traffic through the correct network interface, be it wireless/ethernet port/whatever.

    Having the same problems.
Only on the Sky Poker site.
  • Goody_AceGoody_Ace Member Posts: 206
It is only on Sky poker for me.
But as you have read - it's impossible and all of us having this problem must have faulty wifi/tablets/routers.

And the list of people with the same problem grows.

Whatever it is, it's also affecting me. I thought it was the computer signal to the WiFi at first so wired into another unit that connects to the router, but that hasn't helped. We shouldn't dismiss that there's an issue because the OP has misappropriated some tech speak.

Playing multiple tables means that when it does go down there's a very good chance that I'll disconnect from a hand where I've got chips invested. It seems to take about a minute for my connection to automatically restore, but this can be crucial, and is the reason I didn't play many DYMs, or any Frenzies (where the ability to rebuy is absolutely paramount) last week.

As Matt recalls above, there was a similar issue reported some time ago, where the client would disconnect at specific times. I've not logged the 'when' yet, but I'll do that from now on.
