You could also try restoring your computer to a date before this started happening? Then update your driver.

Thanks I'll give this a go a bit later.

Could those lobsters have something to do with it?

Haha yes, my PC has crabs!

In the meantime, here's a shot of the taskmanager as I lost connection at 4.26pm, any clues here? Disk and network activity shoot up, but I don't recognise the process names.

Errr not sure if it's possible to zoom in on that...

Ok, so the top two guys here are quite angry at the disconnection time, and are very chilled out whilst everything is stable. wmpnetwk.exe is not on the list at all atm.

Appreciate all help from anyone who knows what they're talking about!

Microsoft man say, many issues are solved by changing the routers frequency, might be worth trying that too. gl

Hmm, not sure what that is!

I read somewhere that the adapters might be getting 'powered off' so I disabled that in device manager but I still have the issue.

I've then gone to update my drivers for the adapters, and I get this which I'm not too comfortable with.

It's extremely frustrating, even though connection is restored quite quickly. It's every 15 minutes on the dot, must be some sort of system scan happening. I'm going to take a look at my Antivirus software next (Sophos Home).

    Hi @bbMike ,

Why have you got #2 microsoft wifi Miniport adapters ?
(im not 100% sure you need to be re-installing this, but im no expert)

Where are you installing the driver from ?

Are you on Windows 7 ?

Does the disconnection occur when you are connected via wifi AND when you are wireless ?

Are you using your Computer as a Hotspot ?

whats this icon in your taskbar ?

and how long have you had it ?

This icon below....Is that your disconnected symbol ?

and have you tried right clicking it to troubleshoot ?

Hi Mumsie, thanks for taking time to help. You may have to be a little patience with my lack of knowledge in some areas!

I don't know actually, in the past when I had issues I plugged a USB wireless adapter in so it's possible it's that.

I've just gone to device manager, gone into properties and asked Windows to search for updates, no idea what it's found!

    Yes

Not sure I'm understanding the difference here, but I connect wirelessly.

No, it connects wirelessly to an external HDD, but that's it.

That's Resource Monitor in Task Manager.

PC is coming up for 3 years old.

    Yes.

I hadn't, as most of the time when I've seen it I've been multi-tabling and therefore just wait for connection to restore (doesn't normally take too long).

However, I've just done it now, and it's given me this:

ok, I would leave the 2 microsoft wifi Miniport adapters alone for now, they are about making your computer into a hotspot.

    "Network and Sharing Center"

I'm hopeful that a simple click on the Troubleshoot has fixed something, that would be pretty great if so. The network cable not plugged in issue flagged up also was me leaving an Ethernet cable in the back not connected to anything that I've now removed.

Fingers crossed, I should know in about 5 minutes if all is solved!

I'm on the edge of my seat here.

    Good luck Mike.

I don't see anything that would cause me concern in those task manager screenshots.

If you want to check if WMPnetwk.exe is the culprit then disable it. It is part of Windows Media Player and used for streaming media.

    To disable it:
    • Click on Start
    • Type "services.msc" and press enter
    • In the Services window look for "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Services"
    • Double click it and set the Startup type to Disabled
    • Click OK to apply the settings

We need to work out if your cable is dodgy.

    Edit:

Ill duck out for a bit , see if Machka homes in on the problem, im a hobby PC chap, not an expert.

Ok, it's just run through 21.56, and no connection dropped.

The cable issue it's flagged is not a problem. I was plugging an ethernet cable to a wireless speaker to grab its connection on a different channel (which normally works when I lose connection in a 'bigger' way). I'd unplugged it from the speaker but left it in the back of the PC. I've removed it now and it's not suggested there's a problem any longer. The dropping connection every 15mins issues pre-dates me leaving the cable in.

Will be back in 12 mins with another update.

    Thanks all for your contributions.
