SAINT CALVADOS * THE ARKLE * COULD IT BE POSSIBLE? *

It's hard not to be taken with how SAINT CALVADOS jumped and ran his rivals into the ground, in both his last two races.

He looks like a potential Arkle horse to me. He'd need to come on again of course as the Arkle is a mighty race, but I think he could just be THAT GOOD.

He's probably going to go up at least another 10lbs for the win, which will probably take him into graded company.

Anyhow, his price is coming in, I missed the 33/1 but managed to get 25/1:

18 Jan 18 / 03:03 Single (EW) 1 Arkle Trophy - 13th Mar 2018 - Non Runner Insurance – Outright Saint Calvados @ 25/1 – £60.00 O/5838974/0000214/F

It's non runner no bet and my feeling is that he won't go in the ARKLE unless he comes on again in his next run, and if he does come on again, 25/1 could look very good.

The mighty FOOTPAD is the hot favourite atm, but to me SAINT CALVADOS looks an ARKLE type, the way he jumps his fences and grinds them down from the front, so many Arkle races have been won by types like that.

Is he good enough? No idea, but he'll only go in it if he comes on again and he's quite an exciting prospect at my niece's yard. Hopefully the ground won't be too lively

Maybe worth a little Anti-Post bet for THE ARKLE before his next run, safe in the knowledge that if he runs well next time out, you'll have a good price, and if he doesn't, you'll probably get your money back anyway.

Very good suggestion backing SAINT CALVADOS now, though defo EACH WAY, 'coz as you say, it is up against FOOTPAD, and also one of my favourite horses of all time, SCEAU ROYAL (I've got 25/1 e/w), who is one of the best and fastest jumper of a fence I've ever seen, and imo at least as good a jumper as FOOTPAD (both in same ownership though). We're set for a mouth-watering clash, and nowadays the going on the first day (ARKLE TROPHY & CHAMPION HURDLE) is never faster than Good to Soft.

    I JUST CAN'T WAIT !!!!

Yeh it will be interesting if ST CALVADOS can get there. Although I am not so sure about the E/W tbh (even though I did it E/W) as he's the type of horse that if he can't dominate might get collared by many up the hill.

Re SCEAU ROYAL, I like the horse, whilst he does jump fences economically, I do feel he gets a bit low at some and at Cheltenham and at pace, that could knock the stuffing out of him.

THE ARKLE, is one of my favourite races, whatever happens, I am sure it'll be a BELTER!

Here's the first sentence of the facebook reply I got from Gemma today regarding Saint Calvados:

"Hi Graham! Thanks so much, I think we have something very special there"

So great that a small yard like them, to have a horse like that, whatever happens from here will be a real roller coaster, exciting times for the family!

Had another £50 on. Straight win this time. 20/1 was best I can get now, says 33/1 is available, but it's not.

There is still one place where 25/1 is available, can't say where on here, but to you budding cryptographer's it's on:

Ignore the 25/1 above, as it is not Non Runner-No bet with the firm in question.

    So 20/1 NRNB now best.

Obviously the 'CARTER ££MILLIONS' has moved the Market!!!

Nowadays probably a couple of hundred quid does it Ante-Post.....LOL :D

With regards SCEAU ROYAL... he's already jumped round CHELTENHAM (always a Bonus)
when he just failed to give 5lbs to NORTH HILL HARVEY (another horse I really like with a GREAT Cheltenham record).

What a race if they all get there fit and well.

    NB
Look out for SCEAU ROYAL in the KINGMAKER Chase @ WARWICK or at SANDOWN as he's already won at each of them, and they are both good jumper's tracks.

Yes, I have already watched both theses races and I am not disputing that he is a very economical jumper.

Not to pick a fight with you lol, but I still feel that he doesn't get very high at his fences and I think that could cause him a few problems at Cheltenham at breakneck pace.

Just my opinion of course. I wish you the best of luck with it, although if SAINT CALVADOS gets there, I will be routing for him!

Also, it's not a great race for ex champion hurdlers going back to fences.

But hey, that's what Cheltenham is all about, opinions.

Like you say, it could be a cracking race, and I sincerely hope SAINT CALVADOS is in the race, and I hope that SCEAUX ROYAL runs well too!

Hi, quick update on SAINT CALVADOS.

All being well the next challenge for SAINT CALVADOS will be the KINGMAKER NOVICE CHASE at WARWICK on Saturday 10th February. Will he face SCEAU ROYAL there do you think Mist? Or will it be to soon after today's (27/01/18) run?

REMILUC winning today certainly appears to frank the form.

Depending how that goes and if he can stay sound until March then THE ARKLE is very much on the agenda.

He is now best priced 14/1 for THE ARKLE in the NRNB markets.

Can't stop myself, had to have another £30 E/W.

He'd need to come on again in the KINGMAKER, but if he does, 14/1 won't last long.

    The dream is alive!

Really hoping he can get there in good form, would be great for Gemma and the yard!

One step at a time, lets see how the KINGMAKER goes, but it's great for the family and all involved at the yard, just to be even talking about Cheltenham!

What a ride, lets hope he stays sound!

P.S. It will be interesting to see how his potential rivals FOOTPAD and PETIT MOUCHOIR run in the IRISH ARKLE next week. (03/02/18)

I'd heard SAINT CALVADOS was going for the KINGMAKER at Warwick, but SCEAU ROYAL defo isn't. Alan King said that the Doncaster race he won yesterday is his final prep for Cheltenham. At least he's going for 'The Arkle' (all being well), 'coz the owners also have FOOTPAD.
I can't wait for next weekend's Dublin Festival at Leopardstown, its going to be just awesome viewing and far more informative than yesterday at Cheltenham!!!

Hi guys. I am in the very fortunate position that I will probably be meeting Harry Whittington at WARWICK RACECOURSE on Saturday 10th Feb to discuss potential racehorse ownership with him.

SAINT CALVADOS's owners are away, so I may get inside the owners and trainers ring, which would be nice.

If anyone is interested in joining me in a potential PARTNERSHIP/SYNDICATE for racehorse ownership with Harry, please post here.

    Cheers,

    G

P.S. FOOTPAD ran a bit too well for my liking. SAINT CALVADOS will certainly have a tough ask there, but we don't know how good he is yet. Hopefully find out more at the KINGMAKER next week.

Well a very small but select field for the KINGMAKER at WARWICK on Saturday:

    SAINT CALVADOS - 5/4
    NORTH HILL HARVEY - 3/1
    SATURNAS - 4/1
    DIEGO DU CHARMIL - 10/1
    DRUMCLIFF - 25/1
    TREE OF LIBERTY - 33/1

This is where we'll find out if we have have a live contender for the ARKLE or not.

So buzzed about going and being "pretend" owners for the day. The actual owners are away and Harry Whittington, has kindly left two Owners tickets for me and my ex girlfriend. (Still good friends)

I will be having a chat with him about potential racehorse ownership while I am there.

I hope all horses get there well and run to their merits. If they do it'll be a cracker!

Obviously there is a line of form with NORTH HILL HARVEY and SCEAUX ROYAL, so it will be interesting to see how SAINT CALVADOS matches up against HARVEY.

    Come on the CALVADOS!

NORTH HILL HARVEY is my each way 'Dark Horse' for the ARKLE. Obviously with the form line with SCEAU ROYAL (was receiving 5lbs when winning by a Neck at Cheltenham in Nov., but in NHH's 1st chase). NHH has a very very good record at CHELTENHAM, and looks a very good jumper. Warwick is Dan Skelton's local track so I was hoping he would be going there. It should be a cracking race......I see SAINT CALVADOS is in to 10/1 with B365 for the ARKLE so must be working well ahead of Saturday.
Really looking forward to this weekend with the Newbury meeting too.

Yeh Newbury's a cracker, if it wasn't for CALVADOS running at Warwick, I'd probably be more focused on the Newbury card, but I can't pass up this opportunity to have a bit of involvement in this.

Obviously, I can't do any JACKPOT or SCOOP 6 attempts on Saturday, but the cards will be quite tough anyway, so doubt we'd be going for it anyway.

NORTH HILL HARVEY is no mug that's for sure, and it will be a good yard stick if SAINT CALVADOS does beat him.

The other four runners are not to be under estimated either.

Would be a class performance if he can dispose of this lot!

If he manages it, he'd be a viable contender to take on Footpad and co, that's for sure.

This is really interesting and have a great day on Saturday. What I cant get my head around and I would be very surprised if it happened normally is that FOOTPAD and SCEAU ROYALE would both run in it. As Misty has said same owners.
Having said that its SCEAU ROYALE'S only entry as far as I can see and cant see FOOTPAD going for its only other entry , the JLT novices.

Should be one of the races of the meeting whatever happens
