Whilst we are on a horse racing diversion, today at 3.35pm is the Lincoln Handicap.

It's a 1 mile cavalry charge, though you my be surprised that back in the day, when it was run at the now defunct Lincoln Racecourse, it was a 2 mile affair.

Anyone care to use a drunken spider or rusty pin to come up with the name of the winner?

You can bet - literally - that Mr Channing will be backing a handful of selections in this one.

Most Firms go qtr odds 4 places or fifth odds 5 places, though fifth odds & 6 places is available in 2 spots, including Sky Bet.

Handy but useless hint - with soft ground probably, you want a 5 or 6 year old drawn high. There, that narrows it down. A bit.....

The grandstand is still there in Lincoln.

Gives a cracking view of the A57 now.

On the other side of the road is common ground. The citizens of Lincoln are still allowed to let their horses roam there free of charge. You need to watch your step through there.

Donncha to win the Lincoln for me. Third last year, carrying 3lb less today.

Good post @edrich , especially the mention of the A57, which is a thoroughly fascinating road.

Was walking across the concourse of Manchester Piccadilly Station today & I saw a bloke with a ferret on a lead.

Let me repeat that. A bloke with a ferret on a lead.

Welcome to the North. Folks are funny up here.

First arrival is @babylou who won his seat via a Golden Ticket, & has come down from Whitehaven with Mrs Babylou.

babylou, rather fascinatingly, work at Sellafield, or Winscale as it used to be known back in the day.

Next to arrive was Ian Senior, aka @MacMonster

I asked if he had ever seen a ferret on a lead, he said "pass".

That'll be about the only time today he'll utter that word.

Dunno about that Thug Bloke. It reminded me of those "sausage" draught excluders we used in the olden days before Central Heating was invented.

A cook makes sauce and a chef makes jus?
