I have only really played any volume of any note on 3 sites including this one and reg'ed a few others due to promotions.
Overwhelmingly most of that experience has been on Sky Poker and although I haven't played much poker lately I am a regular reader of the forum and occasional small time sports punter on here as well.
Friendly site with a decent Community.
Probably the no.1 reason for me. Still amazes me that a relative small proportion of the player pool seems aware of the forum or uses it as a resource to connect with people and learn and improve their game. But then again if everyone did it probably wouldn't be a "soft site".
Readers of the Rail may question the friendly bit sometimes but I have made many virtual friends through Sky Poker.
A few years ago my wife was unfortunately very ill and in hospital 60 miles away. It was a horrendous time for our family. To give me an escape and to switch off and unwind I started playing half an hour to an hour some evenings. I started a little challenge for myself based on playing 6max and dym SNGs and started a diary on here and opened up about the situation with my wife.
I received a lot of support from community members and that was a huge comfort. People who never posted on the forum would ask after my wife in the chat box. It definitely helped me get through a very difficult time.
I have tried in my own small way to give something back to the community by running a competition and I certainly appreciate the efforts of others who do the same and many of whom have been doing so a lot longer than I ever did.
"Soft" site.
Obviously helps that a rec with a bit of knowledge like me can still make a few pennies per hour.
Games are against UK & RoI players only.
Never really thought about it but I am glad the site isn't full of microstakes grinders
Third party software not permitted.
It is a good thing albeit one that on its own doesn't impact me greatly.
Tournaments with sensible finishing times.
Don't get to play too many MTTs but yes this is a good thing.
Rewards Scheme, including weekly payments & Freerolls.
Certainly helps when I am able to play regularly, the tourney tokens are good value and in the past I have enjoyed saving them up for bigger tourney entries.
Decent Customer Care.
Hugely underrated imo. I generally get a fantastic service when I have an issue. Being patient and polite certainly helps and having reasonable expectations of CC when the 1st contact may well know little about poker.
Good range of Promos, "always on".
Good variety of promos and over the course of a year opportunities for the recs and high volume regs.
Freerolls
Don't get to take advantage of many so not a great impact for me.
Sky Poker Social-Media is helpful.
Don't engage with it.
Site is reactive to requests to change things. and Site communicates well with the player-base.
Definitely true and a big plus, especially with the tireless Tikay working the forum.
Trustworthy brand, we know our money is safe.
Big plus, I lost a couple of hundred dollars on Black Friday and that was on a European site with a US presence.
Sky Poker Tour
Should be a great plus, although I love the idea of them I haven't managed to get to one so please keep them going for 2019.

Good as is ease of deposit/withdrawal.

6 max - took a bit of time to adapt but would hate to go back to 8/9/10 seats now. I first started playing full ring limit cash many moons ago.
Not as soft as it used to be but I'm sure that's a factor for the pro or semi pro player.
Games are against UK & RoI players only.
Yes, I feel happier playing against 'home' playerss.
Third party software not permitted.
Pretty sure that helps level the playing field
Tournaments with sensible finishing times.
I rarely get to play the later MTTs anyway now but I could certainly see how playing for 12 hours in an MTT to then go out 50th out of 5000 and make $10 could be soul destroying.
Rewards Scheme, including weekly payments & Freerolls.
In fact one of the reasons I didn't play on Sky initally! Before playing on Sky I played on Ipoker skins and was getting well over 50% rakeback, which even for a limited input was much better than Sky.
Decent Customer Care.
Always been pretty good, apart from when there is a site wide issue and then the forum provides a much better source of info than CC (understandably so).
Good range of Promos, "always on".
Can't really fault Sky for their promos after all I went to Vegas with Sky and I didn't even try to qualify! For serious players they are a great source of extra income.
Freerolls
Don't really play them but when you can qualify for gigger events for nothing they are certainly good vaue for those that can.

Other reasons (specify please)
I joined Sky as a result of the TV channel, having wathced it for a number of years before doing so. I really miss that channel. Good presenters, good banter, good analysis and even the chance of getting a mention on TV. Sadly missed.
The Sky community thing is a big selling point imo. The PLO8 DYM scene was great fun for a couple of years but sadly now Tikay no longer plays them it has virtually dried up.
Here's my feedback as requested. (My top 10 to Tango)
I thought it might be handy to list them in order of what it the most significant reason I play on SKY. (The truth whether it looks bad on me or not)
1) Far the most important is that my ROI is better on Sky than other sites. (So "Soft Site" has to come up as number one.)
2) When MTT promotions like the recent Podium Series are on, that is a MASSIVE reason I play more volume on Sky.
3) Small site. Being only UK and ROI based, I know nearly all my opponents so can try my best to exploit the metagame.
4) Tournaments with sensible finishing times and MTT's that don't take too long. Not a fan of 4 hours of late reg and 12 hours to FT as there can be on other sites,
5) Rewards scheme. Reasonable cash back.
6) Third Party Software not Permitted. I use HUDS on other sites as I need to because most my opponents are, however I wish they didn't exist.
7) Friendly site with a good community and forum.
8) Trustworthy brand, we know our money is safe.
9) Games are in £'s not dollars/Euros, especially important if there is any mark up on other sites. (like during the EU referendum on Stars)
10) This probably should go at the top. SKY has a TK! What more does any site need? Seriously though, you are a significant reason that many of the folks are still around, sorting issues out and generally supportive of everyone. Helping etc.
That's probably the main reasons. As I say, thought it may be useful to put them in order of importance/significance. Sorry, it seems a bit of a rub down putting you in 10th. Anyway, you know what I am trying to say.
The loss of THE SKY POKER CHANNEL was a MASSIVE shame. If anything could be done under the new ownership to bring something like that back, it would be fantastic.
That was one of the best things about SKY POKER from a sheer "fun" perspective.
It was also one of my main areas of "learning the strategy", when I started out. I think the lack of it has meant that not enough newcomers are coming to SKY POKER, and if they do they often go again after a short time.
+1 Holding my wallet in £ not $... not so much fussed about this in terms of games but avoids any nonsense of losing money to exchange rates or foreign transaction fees.
+2 One central wallet, but allowing you to pick and choose what you have access to. As someone who used to run up a bit of poker money only to spaff it all on the slots I can't put enough emphasis on how great it is that I can block all the casino / vegas / bingo sections of the site, yet still play poker.
Of course, back in the day when it was a proper poker site Stars didn't have that issue to begin with, but now is like every other one, that seem to be either access all or block all.
Like all sites, Sky can be a bit hollow in their claim of supporting responsible gambling, but on this point they can deservedly take some credit imo.
+3 I like the look and feel of the software, is nice and simple, keeps things clear. I don't think there is a need to over-complicated the look of the table and animations. The on site colour coding and note taking is fine for what is needed.
+4 Compared to Stars at equivalent cash buy-in levels, the games are softer, for sure
+5 The free rolls on Sky are decent for the micro players. Can pick up a couple of quid or a seat to a decent event for only an hour or so luckboxing. Way better than many other sites that need 12 hours graft to get a few cents and need you to cash several of them before you even get enough to cover a micro MTT buy-in / a buy-in to micro cash table.
+6 The community! Love having mini view with a workable chatbox now so you can have a bit of banter at the table and, in the main, people treat it well and don't get abusive or aggro (which seems to be the only time chat is used on a lot of other sites!)
Of course, always some areas that could be improved...
-1 The rake at micro cash is too high imo. More rake is not better, despite vlogs to the contrary. Was comparing this with a number of other sites for NL10 and below and Sky is a real outlier. Would be interesting to see what impact this would have if brought onto a par with Stars rake.
Maybe gives more of those NL10 grinders a bit more back and give them the roll to step up to NL20 sooner, putting more money a bit further up the ladder (which is more rake in the long term for Sky due to bigger pots?).
-2 I'd be lying if I said I didn't still have a bit of a downer on the change in rewards system as a micro/low stakes cash player. MTT chips and freerolls are not as good as just getting cash back as used to be the case. And where I don't often play enough hours to get the £5 min every week, I did used to play enough over a month that I'd have got to the £20+ mark over a 4 week (monthly) period.
Of course, if the first - point was changed, I'd pay less rake in the first place and this becomes a less valid negative
-3 Lack of user-friendly way to track and review your own hands.
I know these threads are Sky / Stars focussed, but personally I think the Party approach is best. Let people run the tracking software to grab hands but anonymise the opponent names so that it isn't possible to dig into weaknesses of particular opponents and, because you can only see session stats, the HUD is essentially useless.
Is frustrating that we can't search back for certain hands to help improve our own play on sky (ie selected starting hands, vs raises in certain spots etc) and equally in terms of being able to play back hands to others for review.
-4 The lack of traffic, particularly at off-peak times. That's par for a UK only site though and appreciate won't be changed unless the likes of players in Canada / Australia or places in between are opened to sign up.
Just some topical feedback regarding playing UKOPS on Sky.
This is not a criticism just feedback as requested.
As you know I thought the PODIUM SERIES was FANTASTIC so this may appear a little greedy, but it's the truth.
I will only play about 50% of the UKOPS MTT's because there is no UKOPS LEADERBOARD promo.
So a couple of points:
1) Stars and Party always have MTT Leader boards for their WCOOP, SCOOP, TCOOP, PowerFest, Millions series etc etc.
2) I would play every UKOPS MTT if there was a leader board. (In some ways I am glad there's not one, so I can still play my table tennis matches, visit family etc)
3) I rarely re-enter when I bust, but would if there was a leader board.
4) As there is no UKOPS leader board, I will probably mix Stars, Sky and Party instead of just Sky.
5) Sky have had them in the past did they not pay for themselves?
How many other guys would play/re-enter more if there was a UKOPS leader board promo?
Like I said, it's not a criticism, it is however, truthful feedback.
As you know I thought the PODIUM SERIES was FANTASTIC so this may appear a little greedy, but it's the truth.
A BIG PLUS ONE from me on Grahams summary of the PODIUM SERIES
I will only play about 50% of the UKOPS MTT's because there is no UKOPS LEADERBOARD promo.
Not for all the same reasons as Graham, but I am also not playing as many UKOPS events as I would if there was a leaderboard.
After a decent (OK for me **** brilliant!) start to UKOPS I rechecked to see if there was a UKOPS leaderboard, if there had been I would have looked to build on my 'points on the board' and for sure would have upped my volume for the UKOPS series.
I still appreciate the quality of the UKOPS series but I tend to pick and chose, rather than commit fully to all the events, as I did with the Podium Series.
I started playing on Sky a few years ago – originally it was due to the fact that it was the only poker site I could find that you didn’t have to download the software as it could be played just on browser. I’m just not computer techie so the idea of downloading software and having to “fiddle” round with the antivirus software installed on my laptop would have sent me running for the hills lol.
I was (and still am) just a recreational player – but I do really enjoy the game. I must admit I love the chat/banter in the chat box probably as much if not more than the results in each game.
When I was a relative new player to the site I somehow won a satellite game for entry into something called “SPT Dublin”. Being Irish I loved the name of the game – assumed it was just a name of the poker game – e.g. The Roller, The Sheriff etc and was just thrilled to win entry to a bigger stake game. Never realised it was entry to a live game in Dublin itself until I mentioned in the chat box that I’d have to finish my Tesco shop in time to get back to play at 2pm as I usually only played in the evenings.......... Someone very kindly pointed out the errors of my ways (I think it was FlyingDagg R.I.P.). I was mad enough back then to book a flight to Dublin and attend the SPT. It was one of the best weekends I’ve ever had – even though I knew not a single soul. Tikay very kindly looked after all the newbies well – and introduced us all to the likes of MacMonster, Mr&Mrs Bromley, “Mother” and lots of other lovely people. It was the start of my love affair with SPTS.
But I digress..... (I’m very good at making a short story into a version of war and peace). The best thing about Sky Poker is 100% the community as far as I’m concerned. Mr Tikay is a great ambassador for the site and should be knighted for services to poker. The player base on here is made up mainly of very nice people. I’ve been lucky enough to meet a fair few in real life at various poker events and even though I’m a little old lady now I consider even some of the youngsters to be friends of mine (even when they’re mugging me for my chips).
I like the finishing times of the tournaments. I work full time and am usually up at 5am for work - other poker sites still have main games running at this kind of time due to the hours and hours of late reg to their games.
I like the fact that the site runs in £ rather than $ or € as I always think the conversion rates on other sites favour the site rather than the player.
I’m not techie minded as stated previously – but I know enough of the existence of HUDs to know that I’m glad they’re not available on Sky.
This Forum is also a great part of Sky Poker. Not many other poker site has forums where even the “this site is rigged” posts are allowed.
I have played on a few other sites – but I miss all of the above too much to stay away from “home” for long.
I’m sure most people have fallen asleep by now (if not all) so I’ll leave it there. I could quite happily continue to extol the virtues of the site for another few pages still – but will give your eyes a rest.
No HUD,s and if there is a problem with something there is normally a quick response on the forum and compared to other sites Customer service is actually pretty good

I’m sure most people have fallen asleep by now (if not all) so I’ll leave it there. I could quite happily continue to extol the virtues of the site for another few pages still – but will give your eyes a rest.
