So looking forward to the TINGLE CREEK at SANDOWN on Saturday.
Only 4 runners, but what a four.
Altior Saint Calvados Sceau Royal Un De Sceaux
I'd really like SAINT CALVADOS to follow up on his win over Footpad (beaten when fell at last) last month in Ireland, for my niece's stable, but can't see anything overturning ALTIOR tbh, assuming he's fit.
Sure to be a cracking race!
I'll probably have a single bet on Saint Calvados, and a straight forecast for Altior to beat St Calvados. Although there's plenty of pace in the race which could set it up for one of Misty's favourite horses, SCEAU ROYAL, to take second.
Having said that, there must be lessons learned from Cheltenham for the Harry Whittington team, so I can't see Gavin Sheehan allowing CALVADOS to go off at the suicidal pace that Aiden Coleman did in THE ARKLE at the CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL back in March.
Of them all, UN DE SCEAUX, class horse though he is, is the one I least fancy in a race like this.
Assuming all get round, my order would be:
1ST: ALTIOR 2ND: ST CALVADOS 3RD: SCEAU ROYAL 4TH: UN DE SCEAUX
The tactics will be interesting, I would imaging Gavin Sheeham on ST CALVADOS will let Ruby Walsh go off in front on UN DE SCEAUX and sit behind him, with ALTIOR and Nico De Boinville settled in third with SCEAU ROYAL and Daryl JAcob I am sure will be content to give them all a lead early on. Alkthough it is possible that ALTIOR may want to sit out the back too early on.
It will be interesting to see how it develops. I think UN DE SCEAUX will crack first and ALTIOR will come under a bit of pressure but respond vibrantly as he always done, whether SCEAU ROYAL will pick off CALVADOS, I am not sure, possibly if a very strong pace is set.
Despite prominent racers like ST CALVADOS and UN DE SCEAUX possibly vying for the lead, I don't think the pace will be "super strong" though as no jockey will want to their ride to "blow up" as happened to ST CALVADOS in THE ARKLE. So either Ruby or Gavin (not sure who, but my guess is Gavin will be content to sit in 2nd if Ruby wants to make the running)
Anyway, one of them will reign their mounts back in behind the other one, rather than risking a duel for the lead that could potentially ruin both of their chances.
It will be a brilliant race for sure, and I will be napping SCEAU ROYAL and backed him with some of my £5 free bets for this race (12/1 e/w 3 places ) and the Queen Mother Champion Chase (25/1 e/w) before he ran in Schloer Chase. I think SCEAU ROYAL is the fastest jumper I've seen and Sandown has more fences per circuit than any other track (except Aintree National course as far as I know. I know ALTIOR is unbeaten, but i really think 2 miles is too sharp for him now. The Sandown hill will help him for sure, but I'm just hoping my horse will be far enough ahead after last to not get caught.
