Thought I would start a thread which people could hopefully contribute to and comment on.
Firstly what about the new addition of a BB ante.
I thought it had an effect in speeding up the play, less hanging around waiting for nine different people to post amounts, I did have a couple of people on a table who were still having to be reminded , but on the whole it worked well.
The discussion on my table was more about did it have an adverse effect on smaller stacks as the blinds and antes grew and would it have been fairer to have a button ante instead. The point was raised that there is not always a button in play.
Personally I would prefer a button ante and if occasionally this means a hand does not include an ante then so be it.
At one stage, getting toward the bubble, a chap on my table had 45k left and had to post 10k in blind and another 10k ante , he actually got a walk, but if someone had put him all in and he looked down at 72 off not a great decision to have to make having put a day and a half into reaching that position.
Thoughts anyone?

I am not sure what formula was used to reach the amount of players paid, 26, or for the differences in amounts paid. A couple of people on my table were moaning, poker players moaning, who would have thought.
Personally I looked at how many were starting day two, 68, and thought I had a decent chance of cashing and if I got to 15th a four figure payday would be very welcome indeed.
When the bubble occurred a couple of guys on my table suggested that everyone left should donate £20 of their potential winnings and give it to the player who was next to go out. At he time I was sat with a healthy enough stack and didn’t know what to think. It would have given the player finishing 27th £520 whilst reducing the next player out total to £580.
It didn’t get much discussion at the time, but the tournament suddenly began to grind to a halt. I think it took between 30 and 45 minutes for the bubble to burst and a player to go home penniless.
On reflection I would have gladly given £20 up to keep the game moving along, I suffered a bit in terms of my stack started to dwindle and bubble play is something I will be thinking about going forward.
Any thoughts?
Great work with the updates the other day was appreciated a lot.
In my experience SPT’s are fantastic for a recreational player like myself. Great atmosphere, putting faces to screen names and enjoying some good company and banter with friends old and new.
As you may have seen , this weekend I did a little bit of the roving reporter job that Tikay normally does while he was playing. I have nothing but respect for Tony, but the levels of that respect went up for a couple of reasons this weekend.
One, my back was killing me come the end of the day as I hardly sat down walking between tables keeping tabs on the going’s on, even becoming Craig cu12’s personal waiter at one stage, getting the Geordie card king a drink as he feasted on other players chips.
During one of my wanderings I came back to Tikay’s table to find he had managed to get a much needed double up. He explained what had happened, his QQ was up against AA and he had rivered what had turned out to be the case Q . The chap Tony had beaten was chirping a little, I thought it was just a little bit of banter but, as I returned to the table during the evening, this guy kept getting louder and his general demeanour was becoming more aggressive. Not just toward Tony but other players as well. It didn’t seem to bother Tony, although it seemed to be affecting the enjoyment of some at the table.
Fast forward to day two, and this “gentleman “ came and sat to my immediate right at some stage. He was involved in a hand where his all in , holding Q8 ,on an XXQ flop was called by an AK . It was a huge pot 500k I think and he won.
This however was not enough for him, instead of being happy with what he thought was a “gift” he wanted to berate the player as he left, and kept reminding the table of it over and over. He was not going to keep his opinions to himself and his “ stage whispering “ just got louder as the day wore on.
I am disappointed to say that I let him get to me a bit, I understand that this is probably his tactic, he talked me out of a hand that I was way ahead in and sadly later his A8 beat my AK on the river in my exit hand. Another thing for me to work on going forward.
Does it reflect badly on me that later on, a huge roar and a jig of delight occurred in a hotel room in Manchester, after a report that his AA was beaten by A9 early on the final table?
Please do not judge me too harshly
There were a few players who were not in Manchester over the weekend,
CPFC, Eberdon, JamesLJames, Albion, Chickenmelt and Matt Bates to name but a few.
I hope all are well and hope to see them and others at future SPT’s.
Talking of Matt Bates I have a funny story to tell that happened at last years Nottingham SPT if enough people want to hear it
I've never known a site have the same amount for multiple places near the top. Yes when there's thousands of runner and hundreds getting paid. But not 10th 11th and 12th getting the same amount. It's bizarre and unfair.
It happens on the site itself as well. Loads of tourney's with 2 or 3 places earning the same amount.
A familiar face and a really nice fun personality Irish Rose was at Manchester this weekend.
Her personal fan club Dark Angel was in tow and the pair are great fun to be around.
Whilst updating on Saturday, I said that Rose would be there or thereabouts come the end and she actually followed me to the cash desk on the Sunday.
The strawberry daiquiri was the drink of choice this weekend, but that is not the secret to her success, no, Rose has perfected the “ I’m all in but I know I’m behind “ declaration, followed by standing up and the preparation of putting her coat on, to virtually guarantee that the cards she needs appear.
Seriously she is a lovely lady and a great poker player.
Appreciate that some of the regulars were missing, but there were a lot of familiar friendly faces.
Here's a question that interests me-why do the Sky players generally do poorly in the recent SPTs?
PS-well done, Nick, both on the cash and the commentary-Tikay is now "Nicklite"
I am not sure if people get my sense of humour sometimes.
I wondered if anyone would get my comment about the gentleman dressed in orange and whether his name was William or not during my reporting. It made me laugh in my head but it is always good if at least one person gets it.
On Sunday, someone wanted food at the table and during the discussion, the question was asked how he liked his chicken. He didn’t answer, grilled or fried the attractive serving lady asked, I added rather cheekily which do you prefer the breast or the thigh?
One chap at the table who obviously heard me grinned . I got it he said chuckling away.
I stole that line from a John Wayne movie “ the horse solders” . Great film, however, later on I wondered,in these days of political correctness, whether my sense of humour could get me in trouble one day.
Thanks for the updates and a good to see you again!and cashing so well done! Minor, minor correction need3d as the player concerned was a nice guy and merits a Sky mention
Winston on the final table, has a son called Elijah so his sky name is Wineli.
Quiet guy, probably wanted to go under the radar, but made a hero call when I bluffed with 27...suited mind. Well done on cashing @wineli
People do find my humour weird, I come out with so much random stuff, it's usally based around facts and sarcasm another thing people consider weird about my humour is I will change subjects in no time, one minute I can talk politics humour the next minute I'll talk food humour. It is just so weird and random.
Irish Rose who had the cheek to re raise my under the gun raise into her big blind. “I had kings” she said I didn’t want to find out.
Essexphil who has been very kind to me with his time and advice. It’s only a matter of time before he makes a big cash in one of these.
I also got to play against three players I have not been up against before.
The Saw, he knocked Rose out late Friday and I spent all Sunday three to his left. He cashed, not sure how high but higher than me.
MacMonster who was battling a lowish stack all the time we were on the same table Friday, he never gave up though and he too cashed higher than me come the final day.
The third was one of Sky Poker’s loveliest couple, sadly for me not the really lovely Mrs Bromley but her hubby Adam.
He and MacMonster obviously knew each other’s game and it was great to watch, learn and occasionally pit my wits with them . Not sure Adam managed a cash.
All three were fantastic company and great fun to play with.
Then of course I got to play against the Ambo.
I have shared a table with Neil a few times , I wonder at him sometimes, he chats with anyone who wants to chat with him, sharing his time and happy to take on just about any topic, whilst all the time checking his mobile phone, for what, I can only assume, are multiple bets he has on around the world of sport. Yet he exudes this aura that he knows exactly where he is in the hand, at any time, no matter how much he has been talking in the preceding minutes. He made a call late Friday I’m pretty sure I couldn’t, wouldn’t be able to. Experience I suppose, he too was a pleasure to spend time with, cashing on Sunday as you might expect.
To sum up, I guess what I am trying to get across is this, if you have not been to an SPT please do try to get to one. If you have not played live and that is what is worrying you, don’t, everyone will help and you will realise that live poker is the nuts.
Being more serious I think this could have a lot to do with our preferred 6 max table dynamic. We don't have antes on our tables,We don't always have to fold our blinds and being able to steal the blinds ourselves is easier, we can get IP more often and will get HU pots more frequently.
On 9 max tables it feels as though your having to wait forever to get a hand and know even when IP you are gonna be more inclined to fold knowing that someone has already open raised.
I've, unfortunately, played and shared tables with him many times in Leeds. He isn't a particularly nice chap.
He was also temporarily banned from a certain casino chain fairly recently for punching another player at the table (not me, believe it or not)
I'd say your read on him Nic was spot on.
And thanks for the great updates at the weekend.
I have a feeling I know this guy from a casino in Huddersfield. When I saw his photo on Final Table I thought I recognised him but wasn't sure. If we are talking about the same guy then it is defo him.
