Best British sporting milestone ever?

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 169,576

When Ronnie O'Sullivan reached his 1,000th century break in tournament snooker recently, it got me thinking.

That was pretty impressive, especially as he is still banging them in at a fair old rate at the age of 43.

Is that the most impressive milestone or achievement by any British sports man or woman?

Others that spring to mind;

A P McCoy riding 4,358 winners & 20 straight Jump Jockey's Championships?

Phil Taylor, 16 World Darts Championships, including 8 on the bounce?

Lewis Hamilton's 5 World Championships?

Any others?

Federer recently won his 100th ATP tour level tournament, including 20 Grand Slams. Given that he has done so in an era when he has had to compete with two of the other best players of all time (Nadal and Djokovic), I think he must go down as one of the all time greats of any sport.

    Wish he was British :(

McCoy would be my favourite being a horse racing man, though I think Richard Johnson's pretty determined to overtake his winners record.

There's obviously winning the World Cup in 1966 ...... though it definitely helped having Home advantage

    Some great shouts there.

Anyone remember a bloke called David Bryant, who used to be the GOAT at Bowls? Won the lot, everything, for about 10 years.

Not sure I ever saw him without a pipe in his mouth. Very rare to see a pipe-smoker these days. He was all very avuncular.

Bozzie Bear for his rugby skills, albeit against 10 year olds.

His football skills, or perhaps mixing them up?

Or just all round sporting ability?

On a serious note, you cold have Martin Pipe in racing.
Not sure if you would include Alex Ferguson.
    Footballers. Pele, Messi, Ronaldo.
Ian Botham, Alastair Cook, Gary Sobers, Viv Richards.
    Schumacher.

All of whom proved themselves over a long period.

If she gets her vote through tomorrow, it will be a short extension, and its all over.
However if she cancels the vote, or she loses, she will have to ask for a long extension.
Once we have a long extension, anything can happen.
