    Crushing the Micros was the first poker book I ever bought so I've got a real soft spot for it :)

    Sometimes poker books can be a little problematic due to the fast pace at which the game continues to evolve. I also bought Blackrain's follow up, Modern Small Stakes which was a great help to me at the time but, fives years on from its publication, many of the 'optimal' lines and stats he refers to are now rather sub-optimal against all but the weakest of opponents. Although there are still some very good elements to it, one needs to be mindful of the context of the time in which poker books were written. This is obviously far less of an issue with texts that deal with the more fundamental elements of the game like basic theory, maths and mental game etc.

    Playing the Player by Ed Miller I found to be pretty good for helping develop exploitative lines against specific opponent types. Lots of it is based on his experiences of live play so it doesn't heavily rely on a breakdown of HUD stats, which may make it more suitable if you're mainly playing on Sky.

    I've only read samples but have heard very good things about The Grinders Manual by Peter Clarke. Much like Blackrain's work, it leans quite heavily on HUD based reads but I think it's one of the most comprehensive guides to online cash play that has been produced over recent years.

    I have a feeling the 'crushers group' Tikay is referring too is principally focused on MTT play, but I may be wrong. @Itsover4u would be able to inform if he happens to pass by.

    Finally, if/when you start your progress diary, post it in the poker chat section of the forum (as you did with this thread) - it'll get way more views that way.

    Good morning,

    @Tikay10 @Duesenberg

    Yes the study group is primarily focused on MTT strategy. Although a couple of us play the spin up games and do decent the focus is very much on MTTS.

    I learnt a ton of stuff from @Alvez11 regards spins and cash and I believe he does coach at very reasonable cost.

    Hiring a good coach is worth its weight in gold. If you can afford the initial outlay and apply the concepts you will make your money back ten fold.

    Alternatively if cost is an issue and your results are good enough you can find a backing deal with players that are better than you who can coach and give you advice at the same time.

    Hope everything goes well for you Alan. If you make a diary tag me in and I will follow your progress and post any help when I feel I can add value.

    Hello @Itsover4u funny that you mentioned Alvez in your post as I did see that he had made a thread on here offering coaching and I was seriously considering it. I have his details wrote down somewhere so will send him an e mail soon and get some more information on that.

    There is still lots of free information out there as well as good videos and books but I still think that an hour or two a week getting coached of a more experienced player will be really beneficial to me. That way I will be able to run past him what I have been learning myself and also learn new concepts from him.

    I do remember playing against him in a Sunday major 15k gtd and he was a nightmare to play against even with me having position on him. He must of 3 bet my co/btn open 3 times in the space of half an hour and each time it went bet flop, bet turn, shove river. I remember being very relieved when I got a table move lol

    Thanks for popping in anyway and GL to you mate :smile:

    Sorry must of missed this post. Yes "Crushing the Micros" is what made me a winning player I think albeit at the lowest stakes. Just finishing reading "The Theory of Poker" again then going to start that Jared Tindler one.

    From there I will probs purchase BlackRain79's "Modern Small Stakes" and then I like the sound of that "Playing the Player" by Ed Miller you mentioned. I am also going to start having a look at some players who play 25nl and 50nl and stream on Twitch which I think will be really educational to listen to players thought process in real time.

    GL to you also mate :smile:
