Interested to know how much people think the sponsorship is worth for winning the main.
No more than 500k i'd have thought. The main bonus is being able to get into any huge high-stakes homegame (like the Robl game) or nosebleed Macau cash game because everyone wants to play with the ME winner.
Generally I'm with you here.
Not sure how close $500k is, but it wont be out by factor of more than 1 or 2 at best.
12 or 15 years ago, yes, but not now, times have changed, & poker sites are no longer throwing money around willy-nilly. There's no point, the benefit to the sites has now been shown to be negligible.

If you won it Matt we would put you in SPT Brighton for free. Maybe you will win it this year when you are in Veg.... Oh.
Just imagine what it would be like if someone you had teased about Vegas did a tip off that you were internally concealing drugs when you were at the airport! Bend over sir!
$15m for me. What good is fame? Will be forgotten in a couple of tears anyway. Ask yourself who won main event 3 years ago? "without looking"
I was just thinking this myself.
The only main event winners I can think of in the past 10 years are Ryan Reiss and that fella Joe McGeehan or something?
Was there some fella Nguyen won it recently as well?
I could name most of them, but the main thing is that you know you've done it, you've experienced something that 99.999% of poker players will never get to be part of. I certainly couldn't name the last few winners of the 100-250k buy-in tournaments that happen around the world.
Let's not forget that if you're winning 15M in 5 cashes that aren't the ME, you're winning the SHRB and some 100-250k buy-in comps, so you're looking at over 1M in buy-ins compared to 10k
Had to be the 5 wins for me. Not for the money but for the respect from other players. Its possible for any reasonable player to bink the M.E. However to win 5 big buy in tourneys against very good recs and solid pros I feel carries more kudos amongst the top players.

Fair point, but do you really think all ME winners get respect from the Poker Community?
Not that I have any great knowledge of the past but I get the general feeing that the prestige was far greater 15-20 years ago and poker brands would be throwing money around for sponsorship . You only have to look at youtube footage of around then.
I would happily take the 15 million and invest in other ventures.
