Noticed in the lobby just that SPT Vegas Satellite Winners (Tournament ID: 34393241) is due to start at 2pm today with only 4 players. Error or just paying out the qualifiers early?

In less than shocking news....WSOP 2020 has been officially postponed.

Hi guys, any updates on when SPT Vegas might be going ahead?

    @fishface99

    Hi,

It will still be going ahead, but as of now there is no date, as the situation is changing daily.

Vegas is starting to re-open now, & Sky Poker are committed to running the event as planned.

As soon as the dates can be agreed, Sky Poker will let you know.

    Hi @Tikay,

Thanks for the speedy reply. I noticed Vegas was beginning to open again and wanted some idea about what was going on. From a personal point of view, I would like to express some of my concerns, which I hope Sky Poker take on board.

I do not want to be put in a situation where I am in a heightened risk of catching COVID just for the sake of a business decision. I hope everything is completely safe and secure before SPT Vegas goes ahead. Not just for my health, but for the health and safety of my family members. With COVID present, it makes me anxious thinking about playing in a huge card room and socialising in a city as carefree as Vegas.

Furthermore, America have been so lax with its laws and general outlook on COVID. The statistics are startling, and truthfully, I do not wish to visit America until there is a vaccine. For me, a Vegas poker tour should be an experience full of excitement, especially for package winners who have never been. In the current and foreseeable climate I cannot see how this would be possible.

Ultimately, due to my concerns surrounding health and safety I hope I am not put in a position where I must visit America until there is a vaccine in place, no matter how long this takes. I hope my concerns are taken into consideration by the Sky Poker team. I am sure they are reflected in not only the other poker players eligible for SPT, but also by their wider friends and family members too.

I'm sure Sky will be ensuring the welfare of everyone attending where best they can, but if you're waiting for everything to be ''completely safe and secure'' then you could be waiting forever. Especially where America is concerned.

You were gifted a £4k package in a raffle, chill out a bit and see what happens.

I was explicitly referring to the situation with COVID, not wider America. If you read about their policies and look at the statistics while also having to care for older family members, it is hard to not be fearful.

Why does me winning a raffle have anything to do with it? I played a lot that month, my opinion should be equal regardless. Also, I am trying to have a conversation and express my concerns with the Sky management team before they make a final decision. As someone who has a SPT ticket I feel entitled to do this.

I was also explicitly referring to the situation with Covid19.
One way or another it's here for the foreseeable, maybe even for the rest of time.
Hence the comment that you could be waiting forever if you need the situation to be ''completely safe and secure'' before thinking of going.

All Tikay said was that dates hadn't yet been agreed, but your reply was as if Tikay had said they were planning on holding it next month.

You've won a package so of course you'll want your voice to be heard, as I'm sure all other 29 (?) winners will too.
Undoubtedly some people might be disappointed once Sky make any decisions (you can't please everyone), but it seems silly to get knickers in a twist before dates have even been confirmed.

Vegas is a very fun place, but it's not for everyone.

I will pass those concerns on, though I know the Suits read this thread so are already up to speed.

They won't be going to Vegas until the risk reaches an acceptable level - & in that statement, bear in mind everything we do in life carries some degree of risk.

Any "business decision" will bear in mind not just the safety & welfare of the package winners & their guests, but don't forget Sky Poker send 3 or 4 Staff every year to host the players so their safety & welfare comes into the equation too. The business genuinely does care for it's customers & staff, so please don't worry on that score.

It's hard to see how everything will pan out long-term, but Sky Poker won't be endangering the health of their customers & staff any time soon.

Although I did not qualify for this event I was due to be in Vegas at the same time for the WSOP, I had to cancel my travel plans and then re-arrange for today. Again this was cancelled by the airline as the US is still now allowing Europeans in (despite massively lower cases) even if they were I doubt I would have travelled due to the general mismanagement over there. I have subsequently re-booked a third time for end of May 2021.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I can't see this going ahead in Vegas in 2020. I'd guess it will be next year before we are allowed in and next spring before it's truly safe to visit.
