Not much change at the top in the new League Table, but a few who were on that 6/1 shot have given themselves a chance on if they can find a Hail Mary;
2000 Guineas - nope, not a loaded or trick questions, I genuinely have no idea, & it bugs me. The 1000 Guineas (which, incidentally & oddly, has identical prize money when in theory it should be half) suffers from the same oddity.
The notion that it is to attract foreign interest does not work, as it has always been comma-less since it's inception in 1809.
They have an Irish version which includes a comma, & there used to be a 2,000 Guineas Trial Stakes at Ascot & that had a comma.
Most perplexing.
As this was something I hadn't noticed before, I automatically presumed this was an alteration, and that the comma HAD been there previously, at some point. Although, when having the idea it could be sponsor-related, I checked recent years to find it was comma-less for sometime, I still believed it to be a change, and merely a case of when.
However, as you say, it does indeed go back to it's inception. Therefore, my theory is completely wrong.
You're absolutely correct regarding the Irish version and the, now retired, Ascot trial.
