Watching more of the trial have not been able to get it all today. the defence lawyer is very good,I have a horrible feeling that Derek will get acquitted.
It is the job of the Prosecutor to convince you he is Guilty. And for the Defence to convince you otherwise. In that order.
This is a show trial. Both sides will be able to weave their spells when it is their turn. Because both legal teams will be good.
But after this will come quicker summing up by both sides, and guidance from the Judge. And some of 1 side's spells will break. And more of the other side's. And there will be a verdict.
I suspect it will not be a total victory for either side. If that is true, watch both sides insist that justice has not been done. Mind you, when both sides genuinely mean that, it often (not always) means that justice has done its job.

I don't think he's good.
Well, he could be good, but the defence teams whole argument is just riddled with holes that he doesn't have much to work with.
It's America so there is probably a chance he gets off, but the fact the charges against Chauvin don't involve intent (which can be so hard to prove) means I think it's much more likely he'll go down on at least one of the charges.

Nothing is ever certain. I recall a case in a Court near me where the Magistrate found someone Guilty, saying:-
"There is clearly doubt in this case. But I'm not going to give you the benefit of it." Mind you, that was grounds for a pretty quick appeal
I think he's going to be found Guilty. And receive a substantial prison sentence. But not enough to satisfy some interested groups. And an amount of civil unrest.
But, then again, I could well be wrong. I've seen cases where I have felt that the main reason for conviction was that their eyes were too close together.
It really does look overwhelming evidence I just cant help but feel he will get acquitted though I cant work out why or put my finger on the reason though.
Next week will be the defences turn to present their case and call witnesses. I do hope the guy goes down but I just dont think he will.
guilty on all three counts glad to see it. It was a very clear case wasnt expecting this but kind of felt it was going that way when verdict reached within 11 hours. Would have thought if not guilty verdict returned would be longer.
8 weeks to wait for sentencing though. surprised at that was expecting sentencing within days.
I got a surreal pleasure seeing him being escorted away in handcuffs. I don't know why I felt this way
If his sentence is harsh it could be a turning point for how police deal with non-whites.
I think that part of the reason for the delay in sentencing is that the judge has to get it right. Too lenient and the BLM / Anfita / Anti police movements will use it to fuel the fire. Too severe (in some peoples minds) will see the White Supremacist/ Republican/ Gun Lobby/ rednecks and fascists use it to stir up more hatred.
FWIW, I feel life without parole is probably the maximum that will be handed down, I don't know if the death penalty is an option in the State. Whereas anything less than 40 years probably ignites the fires, literally.
I think he'll get a lot less. I'm, not saying he SHOULD get less, but I just think he will.
His life is effectively over whatever sentence he gets though. He'll need to be in solitary whilst he's in jail, or he'll soon be murdered. And as for taking communal showers....
And if he survives jail & gets released, he'll surely not survive very long at all, he'll be hounded wherever he lives & eventually retribution will come via a grisly murder. I imagine he'll be given a new identity & a "safe house" somewhere, but he'll be outed soon enough.

What sentence, if any, do you think is appropriate for Chauvin?
The Jury has reached their verdict.
Justice.

Edit:
The political interference before the verdict will probably, sadly, give him scope for an appeal.

He's a dead man walking.
