Nightclub bosses say they will REFUSE to check vaccine passports if the scheme is voluntary because many of their customers won't have been jabbed
Guidance released by the Government last night warned that it will consider making the system 'mandatory' in future if steps to limit the spread of Covid are not taken by firms.
It's mask confusion! Rail staff face violence from 'confused' passengers, warn unions as Grant Shapps BACKS Sadiq Khan's order for face coverings to remain compulsory on Tubes and buses - even though they are NOT required on trains
Sadiq Khan (bottom right) has broken ranks by announcing masks will remain compulsory on London transport despite the government binning all legal restrictions across England from Monday. However, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps (top right) played down the tensions this morning saying he had 'expected' operators to put in place 'conditions of carriage' to ensure that passengers were safe on public transport. The increasingly confused situation means that passengers on trains in and out of London terminals will not need to wear masks during their journeys, but must while travelling around the city. Unions have warned that the 'botched' approach to setting the rules will leave railway workers facing the threat of violence from angry customers. Mr Khan told BBC Breakfast that around 400 enforcement officers would be deployed to check people are still wearing masks in the capital.
Mask 'shambles' escalates as police are ordered to KEEP wearing them
England's mask shambles descended further into farce today as police officers were told to keep wearing them after Monday's end to lockdown.
The National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) has written to all forces advising that existing infection control measures should continue, despite face coverings no longer being required by law.
More than half a million people pinged by NHS Test and Trace app in a week - a record number
More than half a million people in England were pinged by the NHS Test and Trace app in a week, the highest figure recorded.
A total of 520,194 alerts were sent to users of the NHS COVID-19 app in the week to July 7, telling them they had been in close contact with someone who had tested positive for coronavirus.
This is up from 356,677 the previous week - a rise of 46% - and is the highest weekly figure since data was first published in January.
It comes as some companies are reportedly missing 20% of their workers.
Vaccines tsar Kate Bingham is one of 40,000 double-jabbed Brits forced to put summer holiday plans on hold after taking part in Novavax trial that is still not recognised by NHS or EU
Dame Kate Bingham took part in early vaccine trials for Novavax but the jab but it is not approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and so is not recognised by the NHS
Chris Whitty warns Britain could be forced to consider new lockdown within weeks as UK records 63 deaths in highest daily toll since MARCH and cases soar, especially in Englishmen after Euros
Professor Chris Whitty (top) has warned that England could be plunged into another lockdown amid a surge in cases across the nation. The Chief Medical Officer said that medics could soon be faced with 'scary numbers again' as hospitals face a growth in cases and said 'we should not underestimate the fact that we could get into trouble again surprisingly fast.' It comes as data from Public Health England data today showed 10,267 more young men than women were infected with the virus last week - with the gender gap having widened since the Euro 2020 tournament kicked off. Cases have remained roughly the same between men and women throughout the Covid-19 pandemic but they began to diverge after June 13, when England beat Croatia 1-0 in their first match (the number of cases rising as the Euro 2020 tournament progressed, bottom).
Revealed: Shocking £525 cost for a single Covid test as holidaymakers are confronted with extortionate prices, shoddy service and long delays
A Daily Mail analysis of 15 firms found that, in some cases, true prices were up to three times more expensive than stated on the Government website. One company charged up to £525 for a single test.
RICHARD LITTLEJOHN: Boris's test and trace pingers are doing more damage to Britain than Scargill's pickets ever did
RICHARD LITTLEJOHN: The trigger-happy Test and Trace system is causing chaos. Soon there may be two million perfectly healthy employees stuck indoors when they could be helping Britain get back on its feet.
Now France could go on the RED list: Ministers consider expensive hotel quarantine for those returning in another nail in the coffin for summer holidays abroad
NEW The move would force Brits returning from or transiting through the country into mandatory hotel quarantine on their return, even after July 19.
What freedom day? Mask mess goes on as supermarkets, police, NHS and trains and buses retain measures
Britain's biggest retailers, say safeguards will remain in place, and police officers and the NHS will continue to use face masks and social distancing for staff and patients as a safety measure.
Holidays to France are thrown into disarray as double-jabbed Britons arriving back must quarantine for 10 days in last-minute reversal of Amber list rule change as hundreds of thousands prepare to jet off on Freedom Day
British holidaymakers have been dealt yet another blow tonight, with the Government announcing travellers arriving from France (pictured top image: A beach in France) will still have to quarantine even if they have had both Covid jabs. The sudden reversal, which will likely throw thousands of summer holiday plans into disarray, comes just days before the end of school term and 'Freedom Day' on July 19. Holiday hopefuls had previously been told that they would be able to avoid 'Amber List' quarantine rules from Monday. That's the date when the Government had set down for allowing double jabbed Britons return from Amber List countries without having to quarantine. But France will now be made an exemption to the rules, amid concern over the spread of the Beta (South Africa) strain across the Channel (pictured bottom image: A graph showing the Covid cases in the UK, Spain and France).
Boris Johnson CANCELS plans for a Churchillian Freedom Day speech as furious health chiefs accuse him of 'letting virus rip' by unlocking as cases rise by 68% to 55,000 and 740 new hospital admissions PER DAY
The Prime Minister found himself under attack from all sides of the political spectrum amid surging virus cases and hundreds of thousands being forced to self-isolate by the NHS Covid app. Former prime minister Tony Blair led calls today for the quarantine rules to be axed for the fully vaccinated immediately as firms warned of imminent closures to factories, potentially affecting food supplies. Meanwhile public transport has also been hit, with parts of the London Underground forced to shut yesterday due to a lack of staff. But at the same time leading public health officials from across the UK warned that tomorrow's great unlocking in England - while other home nations take more cautious routes from lockdown - risked 'letting Covid rip'. The Mail on Sunday today revealed that Mr Johnson cancelled plans for a Churchillian launch of Freedom Day after No 10 became alarmed by the surge in the number of infections.
It's not Freedom Day, it's Disaster Day': Businesses rage at self-isolating Boris as the Great Unlocking is marred by MILLIONS still at mercy of 'pingdemic' - and demand testing system instead
Boris Johnson is marking the grand unlocking alone at Chequers after performing a comical U-turn from initially saying he and Rishi Sunak would dodge quarantine despite having met Health Secretary Sajid Javid - who has tested positive. But the lifting of almost all legal restrictions have merely fuelled fears about spiking cases bringing the economy grinding to a halt, as more and more people are doomed to house arrest. Experts estimate around 1.8million people are still self-isolating after being 'pinged' by the NHS Covid app or contacted by Test and Trace. And many firms say their sites are having to open with reduced hours or shut completely because up to a quarter of staff are off as a precautionary measure. In a key concession today, frontline NHS workers will be exempted from the rules to prevent hospitals having to cancel operations because of staff shortages. But this morning vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi appeared to dash hopes that the exemption could be ditched for the double-jabbed before August 16, as well as suggesting that the sensitivity of the app will remain the same for the time being.
