Thanks for participating, all. I hope some will try some of those tunes. Special thanks for some of the wrong guesses that have reminded me of some great songs.
The band that exists now (without the founders) are based there. The creator of the band (Johnnie Wilder Jr) was originally from there.
But he had relocated to the UK when he decided to form a band. Placed an ad in a UK paper, and started the band with the British Rodney Temperton. Did occasionally bill themselves as "Chicago's Heatwave" early on, but (during their hit making years) were based in the UK, and produced by the great Barry Blue.
That was a terrific Quiz Phil, thank you. Not my kind of music - not at all - but it clearly engaged many here.
Thanks.
That is the great thing about music. It both captivates, and can genuinely surprise. And music provides something for everyone.
Try just 2 songs mentioned on this thread. A13 by Billy Bragg. A man famous for his left wing political commentary. Who does an Essex version of Route 66. No political commentary-just fun.
Or "I will always love you" by Halestorm. A truly great song. Written by Dolly Parton who (IMO) did not have the right voice for it. Made famous by Whitney Houston-great voice, but never one to sing 1 note where 8 would do. Lzzy Hale manages to recreate the heartfelt meaning of the song, that somehow gets lost in the Whitney version.
I'd never heard of Stone Stour might give them a listen, I'm not keen on Slipknot so am not sure, gave "Tell Us the truth" a blast forgot all about George Davis. Then I remembered this.. https://youtu.be/tm6-KpyBohc

I know what you mean about Slipknot. I disliked them for many years. Then I heard "The Devil In I"-a truly great song. There are more-but a lot of stuff that is just not for me.
Not heard a great deal of Stone Sour-just so happens 2 of the 3 songs I like are early in the alphabet!
Favourite Sham song? Toss up between "Borstal Breakout" and "Sunday Morning Nightmare".

Just checked out Halestorm as I'd never heard of them, pretty good thanks. But for pure emotion and meaning I don't think anyone comes close to DP's original version, the story behind it surprises people who only know it through Whitney's version. I know you know the story behind the song but here's DP telling it,for those that are interested watch it to the end.

Sunday Morning Nightmare "b" side of If the Kids are United, Sham songs were always good for the terraces. I remember Stoke had a player called Loek Ursum, didn't take long for Ursum boys to ring out on the Boothen.

Primarily a rock/metal band. Try songs like Love Bites. But their slow songs can be gorgeous. Try Break In-their original is good, the recent version with Amy Lee from Evanescence even better.

Slipknot are one of my favourite bands. I appreciate that they aren't everyone's cup of tea but they do have some songs that aren't quite as heavy as people would think. Stone Sour are definitely worth checking out, a lot different from Slipknot and Corey is a great singer.

Billy Bragg. A man who writes such beautiful lyrics, he can make me cry. But this song makes me laugh, and the world seem a better place.
And that is all 10 done.

Happy Xmas, and a Great New Year

Great Quiz btw, thanks for really getting me to go back to my youth for some of them.
