So I have been playing on sky poker for pretty much 2 years now having signed up for sky at the start of lockdown when I was just 18 and pretty much just played the odd 2/4 cash session or sit and go every now and again. I already played poker a few times a week in person but was very casual and winning wasn't really a concern of mine. I was very poor back then and didn't really have that good of an understanding of how to be good at the game. However in the first lockdown i became hooked and started to spend some of my time putting in work and getting better then eventually began playing on my laptop and playing a bit more often one tabling 2.20 MTTs. During this time I didn't really have to much of a track of a bankroll and would just deposit £20 and play some games.
I can't fully remember when but I eventually started to 2 table for the first time and at one point ran up my bankroll to about £70 which at the time for me seemed insane, before soon after going on a tilting and upsetting downswing back to around £20. I took a break from playing online as much when I was able to play in person again last year still playing every now and again however not as often as before.
Then in June I ended up in hospital with a heart infection, where I would be for 6 weeks so as a result I started to 1 table on my I Pad paying 5.50 after 5.50 bounty hunter pretty much every day to kill time and since I was unemployed and a student I was with drawing half of my bankroll every time I hit £100. Then once I finally came out of hospital I had overall withdrawn £150 and had about £75 on my account which considering when I played my first game in hospital I had £15 was quite a success. I eventually had to withdraw almost everything as I didn't have any money and was looking for a job, eventually finding one as a cardroom dealer in a casino.
To make the rest of the story short as possible, one night after work I decided to play some sky for the first time in a while decided to take my £4 and go on a 2/4 cash table and running it up to £12. Since then using the same playstyle as previous by 2 tabling MTTs I managed to run my roll up to £155 a couple weeks ago all from the original £4.
Since then I have made the decision to dramatically change my playstyle and recently have been 6 tabling cash games or 4 tabling MTTs/ Sit and Go's which has been working very well and I'm currently enjoying playing more than every and have currently gotten my roll up to £345 after winning the £500 guarantee £5.50 bounty hunter for about £130 on the night I am typing this. My genuine aim for poker is to one day become a professional player as I absolutely love the game feel that I am decent at it, obviously I'm nowhere near that level yet but I am only 20 so I'm still a baby in a poker sense and everyone has to start somewhere.
The main reason for this forum I am creating is to just have somewhere where I can discuss my progress and how I am doing as well as tracking how I do in general. On top of asking for advice and posting hand histories, noting when I move up and down in cash stakes as I am quite aggressive with my bankroll management as I am trying to increase my bankroll as quickly as possible although I've not set myself any specific goals.
So I will probably post on this thread after my major sessions and discuss anything interesting that may have happened during the day on top of posting my progress on a day to day basis and any interesting situations which I feel would be good to share.
So currently, however I may change after my decent win tonight, I was playing up to 2 5p/10p tables and filling the rest of the 6 tables with 2p/4p. The sometimes was 4 tabling tournaments with the largest buy in being 5.50. However was mixing in the 7 at 7 and mini major every so often. Then if I get knocked out of an MTT I would replace it with a DYM or Six Max table.

Morning Humpy,
Really enjoyed reading that, thank you. It very much reminded me of my early poker journey, which saw some huge swings up & down, but most of all that's where I caught the poker bug. I've been hooked ever since. Poker has taken me all over the world & I've had some terrific highs & some dreadful lows. So as long as you are enjoying it & managing your spend sensibly, you might just be in for a long & pleasant journey.
Congrats on your win last night. We do a daily round up of MTT Results on the Forum and I will make sure you get namechecked in today's one which will go up at around midday.
If you have any questions poker-related, put them on your thread. If I can't help, I know a man or woman who can. I can help with "mental game issues" & the like (especially tilt & "entitlement"), but for stuff like strategy & so on I'm way past it now, but we can get some of the younger & more tuned-in players to come on the thread & help.
Your post has really given me a buzz, reminding me of the start of my journey. Hope you have as much fun as I've had, & am still having, 25 years on.
Good luck my friend, & welcome aboard.
Good luck with this journey.
So a mix of not running the best and some poor decision making, punting off quite hard in 2 of the tournaments I was in means that my 2nd day of posting my progress end in a pretty hefty loss for my standards in a single day. MTTs can be brutal when things don't go your way haha. But I kind of always expect to have a bit of a poor day after a decent win.

Just a couple of tips from me.
1) Attempt to learn about Bank Roll Management (BRM) . If you do go on a downswing (and you will) , just drop down the levels and don't go chasing your loses.
2) Always take a break when you feel that you are going on 'tilt' or not really enjoying playing. Keep it fun.
Finally, and I am shocked @Tikay10 didn't mention this earlier, your alias brought back memories of this below. You are obv too young to remember this well known advert 'back in the day' .
I wish you every success and will follow your progress. Hopefully see you at some tables soon.
However as well as playing on here I also do really love playing live and have played live quite often and although I don't keep a bankroll for live poker I do like to track my wins and losses.
So along with 3 others from my work made the 3 hour trip to Coventry to play In the Grosvenor national staff poker tournament which was ran today, Which was a £20 buy in with a £10 rebuy and £10 top up. I spent £40 on the tournament and out of 50 total entries me and two of the others I came with all made it to the final 6 where everyone agreed on a chop meaning I took £345. This is my biggest ever live win which beats my £300 win at aspers casino in Newcastle last month.
This win today took my live winnings to +£1,070 since I started tracking it in last August which IMO considering I generally only play £5 and £15 pub games is a really good situation to be in and its the first time I've been in 4 figure profit playing poker live.
Very best of luck with this challenge @Humphrey43 , I will follow with interest and hopefully see you at the tables. And many congrats on your best live result yesterday.

For example although this was only 2/4 not 5/10.
Which is another thing I do way to much playing cash, for some reason, I always try to win most hands I'm playing, which is just silly and means that when I'm not running well things like this can occur often.
But I think this is a big wake up call for me though because I'm going to move back down when playing cash to only 2/4 for the time being until I can develop to be more disciplined with my playstyle and not just punt off money in silly spots because I'm on tilt due to run bad, which I have been successful at in the past but the last few days it's came back to haunt me. I'm hopefully as well going to be able to play tournaments more often which are my strong point and hopefully get back in the 300s soon.

You must expect these ups & down, as long as you play poker you are going to experience them.
Try to take the extremes of emotion out of it - don't get too down after a bad session, don't throw a party after a decent night.
4 or 5 days can't ever be a "downswing", it's quite normal, like the tide going in & out, you'll have good weeks & bad weeks. Every poker player has the same problem. Unless you are exceptionally gifted, good & bad weeks will always be part of the game. Abd even the best players on earth still have bad weeks. In a way, it's more important to learn how to handle variance - these ups & downs - than strategy. Strategy & learning how to make the correct plays is much easier. It's the mental game that most players struggle with.
"Tilt" is the worst thing ever for a poker player. If you can't control tilt, then I'd advise quitting poker. Players who suffer - or allow themselves to suffer - from tilt are never going to get the enjoyment from the game they need. It's not about making money, it's about enjoying your leisure time. Eradicate tilt, work on your game, & then you'll be enjoying it more AND making money. That's the target.
You can do it mate, I'm quite sure you can. Good luck.
WP for that one!
