Congrats on the results Craig, still following, my general rule in a spot where my intuition is telling me to hero fold is it has to match up with some very solid notes as evidence, generally i think its a mistake to trust your instincts without some solid evidence to match up as often our brains have a negativity bias or are subconsciously too heavily influenced by the most recent outcomes in similar situations.

Hi - and thanks for the feedback. I cant argue with any of those points raised and its a perfect example of why you need to note down some hands that you feel need a look because away from being in the moment you can look at things and put in place thoughts so you can make those decisions faster as live I probably do call there and don't intend to fold. As for limping its definitely table and player specific - I adjust my strategies to suit.

As I write this ive just made another big lay down I need to look at. Hmmmm. I wonder how this one will go down.

Flicking in 1bb from the bb is a no brainer. Same with flop check. I obviously love the turn so bet and get called. Fine. I improve to a straight against a passive player who gets very aggressive but it does hit a lot of better hands like QJ which is a favourite limped hand by many. This move is not a bluff so that only leaves value and in my experience this screams of a big hand wanting to get paid max such as QJ and 86 for example. I felt at best im chopping - which im doing a fair bit - but I haven't invested much and it was a pot I just happened to be in and more importantly I feel like the chips I have now I can use to my advantage better than hoping to chop.

Another good night, things didn't work out in either my bounty MTTs only picking up one head. I did get a big stack early on in the £5BH but then ran bad when it counted and then lost a huge chunk when I lost set v set. I then lost a race to bust AKs v 1010.

My run came in the rebuy with my normal just one buy in and add on if I got that far. Played well and made it to the FT where the clear chip leader arrogant was just all in every hand and I lost a race to bust 5th going for the win and not worrying about laddering. I have now only won two of my last 17 all in races which is annoying. I also threw in a £2 6 max and won that to make a decent £20+ profit for the night.

But its still an amazing start to my challenge. Two FTs with one win.

Love this Diary, keep it going please Craig.

As to these big folds, I have a view that we must make these big calls sometimes. If we always fold when in doubt, I think we are doing it wrong. Sometimes, as part of the learning experience, we have to make these dodgy calls. And we don't have to be right that often.

Better players may have a better view on that, but that would be my take.

I agree and would almost always fold here as well. Depends on villain notes of course, but like you said you’ve not invested much into the pot so calling off an all in for a good chunk of your stack when chopping at best doesn’t seem wise, especially in a tournament where we have a good edge on a lot of the field.

I don’t think villain has many full houses here as played, and if they do they have played the flop and turn extremely passively. We also block some potential full houses by having a 6 in our hand. Only full house that makes sense to me is pocket 9s. JQ or an over-excited 7 x hand is likely the villain’s holding here.

As @Tikay10 says, sometimes we have to make the big calls even if we’re unsure if we’re ahead. The 10 7 hand you posted previously was probably one of those calls for the reasons I stated yesterday, however this 6 7 hand isn’t one of them for me. Good sensible fold IMO.

Hopefully you keep the run of good sessions going tonight bud 🙂

Had a hard day looking after the girls today, very demanding and its all the more frustrating from tonight's poker because I was really looking forward to chilling but had a bad run and finished early. I think I played fine just ran into hands or had bad luck. Its the other end of the stick so ill take it obviously just sometimes its just harder to take.

I did managed a cash in my one SnG - a DYM so that was nice.

67 hand looks a pretty straightforward fold.
I'm not sure it's even worth leading river? Unless you think villain won't fold 10x type hands but an overpair is highly unlikely given the action and checking gives them the chance to try and pinch the pot/rep the hand you have.
Also doesn't give them chance to blow you off a split pot (assuming they bet a normal size if checked to)
As played, bet fold looks fine. Never great to be calling off when the best you can realistically hope for is a chop.

Think would raise more pre (or just check) with the A10 but otherwise unlucky.
  • CraigSG1CraigSG1 Member Posts: 1,826
Hi hey, the 67 hand I thought about checking river but I know this player calls very light so was going for value. And the A10 was meant to be slightly smaller than usual because of these players specifically, I want to be playing pots with there weak ranges.

So, another tough night. Lasted an hour and im pretty bummed. Just one of those nights again, I was getting people to call with bad odds and they just kept hitting and then noe bust out hand was AJ v KJ (he flopped straight) and A10 v K10 (an utg limp call and he flopped a K). In my one SnG I lost two races and another dominating situation.

Not a fun night. We have more of these than good ones so I take it on the chin. Maybe a night off tomorrow for some decorating. That sucks too!

On a good note, taking some money out of my account to pay for a bench and a play house for the girls to go in the garden. Cant wait for them to see it tomorrow - every time we go for a walk they have to sit on every bench we come across!

    Hi,

So the bench and the play house where a hit but the decorating took all night and then I spent five hours on the car today so was looking forward to chilling out with some poker tonight but alas, another bad night. Just some un real hands with the one below taking the biscuit as just a typical show of how things went.

Again its so frustrating to get these back to back to back days with lots of low percentage hands just hitting for fun against me time and again.

I guess tomorrow will have to be the day I win another MTT to cheer me up.

    Hi all,

It has been a very rough few days both on and off the tables. I have a bad cold that i got from my daughters and they have had it the worst they have ever had it, not sleeping well at all which means me and my partner have to split up - me on the couch with one girl and her with the other so surviving on very little sleep which is tough. Add to that the clingy and crying nature all day makes it that much more difficult.

Also, things not going my way at all and add to that some poor play too which means i haven't done much at all for my challenge other that drop my total.

I haver mentioned before i suffer some mental issues which have surfaced a little but i am proud to have kept somewhat of a lid on my thoughts and actions.

Hopefully we are over the worst of it and i get some actual sleep tonight instead of being kicked and slapped by a very restless girl!

Thanks Tikay - the girls slept through mostly last night so wasnt too bad but the day was another struggle.

Have to admit, played some bad poker tonight and in hindsight should have skipped it so will skip tomorrow. Feeling very deflated at the moment tbh. Need to regroup, im doing what is probably my worst trait of getting annoyed at another players run and letting it effect my play.

Hi. So I took a night off yesterday and watched Better Call Saul which was excellent, got a good nights sleep and have felt a lot better today. The girls are almost better too which is fantastic.

Hopefully no coincidence that my worst nights where when I felt the worst because I played a lot better today and had a very deep run in the £5BH at 6.30 - finishing 7th which was both good and frustrating. Was 1/11 at the break but after a run of hands where I only got the blinds I then lost AK v AJ, KK v Ax to a run straight and a few other hands to get me 4/8. I then got incredibly lucky when I 3b jam AJs and got called by AQ. I hit run run straight and I thought that was a sign!

But alas, wasn't to be. Finally running into AA in a squeeze spot with KQ. The guy I lost to was on a heater having hand after hand.

Glad to return to some sort of form, actually thinking straight and I was happy in my bluff spots. Got many through even though I got called a couple of times which is fine - its these spots that help us through the fields.

One note - I know its only 8 attempts but im running very badly in my 6pm MTT - the one I win at least once a month.

This is a hand I would like some other views on:

Its a limped pot and I had that saying of don't go broke in a limped pot in my head at the river. The flop is standard and I would probably of called a bet with the potential I had but it gets checked to turn where I hit my gin card! The nuts! No point in betting as im hoping the villain has checked back a weak Ace or has something because its kind of hard to hit this board. Yes he has a lot of weak hands but he's an aggressive player and I have known him to limp and raise Aces on the button. I was hoping for a bet to call (maybe raise depending on his size) but it checked again. Now it pairs and im still very happy with my hand and have to bet for some value but we get a snap big reraise!

I don't think he is ever doing this with any A because I can so easily have a 5 so that left some 5x and maybe the lower straight with suited cards or a rivered FH.

Should I have jammed? Like I said, it was an upraised pot, I don't have the nuts by a long way (he could have A5, AA, 55, 75, 44) and he was so quick to raise like he had been waiting. To be honest, from my starting hand I was happy to just call and take a nice pot.
