Pluperfect

Reading through @misterpj thread in the sports and betting forum there was a horse named pluperfect.

Being of a moderate education, I have only come across this word once before.

This was in Alastair Maclean's novel "Partisans", where upon being asked as to why an elderly professor of languages was in fact engaged in active duty behind enemy lines, the said professor proclaimed that "Hurling pluperfect subjunctives at an enemy never won a battle".

Marvelous stuff.
