Side note; weren't guns banned from this event for safety concerns?
I'm sure the irony isn't lost on even the thickest of Americans (and a few British idiots too)
What amazes me is that the Far Right believe that this is far better use of school resources than an extra teacher, or help for kids with mental problems, etc.
Imagine if this was the UK. And, say, £30,000 cut from every school budget, and the loss of classroom space.
There are 32,000 schools in the UK, so that is £1BILLION lost from the education budget every year. But we don't need it. Why? Because we have sensible gun laws in this country.
How much was spent on school security after Dunblane?
A tiny fraction of what is already being spent on schools in the USA.
And no similar atrocities in the UK since. 26 years and counting. Thank goodness. Why? Most important reason is we attacked the source of the problem. Gun control. Because we are a Country that protects our children.
Not one that is beholdent to the gun lobby. Someone should start a Conspiracy Theory about that...
Gun laws: More than 700 people shot dead in the US since the Texas school shooting
Two weeks on from the tragic murder of 19 children and two staff at a primary school in Uvalde, Texas, a special committee has been launched at the US House of Representatives to investigate. Sky News looks at the scale of gun violence that has happened in the country since then.
There have been gun killings in 43 of the 50 US states in the two weeks since the Texas school shooting.
More than 650 incidents have resulted in 730 deaths since 24 May, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive.
Twenty-three of those who died were children, more than the total number who died in Uvalde, and 66 were teenagers.
The figures provide the deeply troubling context for politicians on Capitol Hill as they struggle to find common ground over how, or even if, to reform America's gun laws.
Cowardly Texas police RESTRAIN officer father whose daughter was one of 21 slaughtered in school massacre as cop uses hand sanitizer in front of him and 17 run away, leaked video reveals
Uvalde County Sheriff's deputy Felix Rubio is seen being restrained as officers failed to engage Robb Elementary School shooter Salvador Ramos in harrowing new leaked footage from that fateful day. The video also shows how easy it was for teen gunman Salvador Ramos to saunter into the school on the morning of May 24 and slaughter 19 children, including Rubio's daughter, Lexi, 10, as well as two teachers. As multiple law enforcement agencies finally begin to engage Ramos, an officer who stays back steps across a physically restrained Rubio to use hand sanitizer. Rubio can be seen looking on helplessly, crying and gesticulating. In total, the leaked footage shows cops stalled in the hallway for 77 minutes, checking their phones and running away from gunfire as Ramos fired more than 100 rounds at children in two classrooms. Rubio's daughter, Alexandria Aniyah Rubio, was one of Ramos' 19 victims. She was 10 years old.
