Briton and French wife face £11,000 Brexit visa bill to return home to UK
ABritish man with Parkinson’s disease and his wife living in France say they have been left stranded on the continent because of “insulting” post-Brexit immigration rules.
They worked and paid taxes for decades in the UK but say they have had the “door slammed in our faces” and have been told they must pay £11,000 if they want to return.
Stephen Kaye, 60, an IT specialist, spent his entire working career paying tax in the UK, and his French wife, Carmen Delaunay, 64, made substantial contributions working as an analyst and client retention specialist for multinationals, most recently Deloitte, over 25 years in Britain.
They decided to move to France to look after Delaunay’s elderly father in 2015, and all of her tax years in the UK were wiped away with new immigration rules that came in after 2021. The new rules prohibited EU citizens from entering freely into the UK unless they had an unbroken five-year residency in Britain before the divorce from the EU.
Kaye said: “My first reaction upon discovering that Carmen did not have an automatic right to return to England was one of disbelief. It did not seem possible that a ‘civilised’ country (the UK) could invent such an outrageous rule.

I was refering to the fact that it stated that a rich Germany would be looked to to bail a poorer nation out. However, as you raised the issue.
How many of those million are still in Germany. Do you think that Germany weren't compensated in some form or another. Oh and I don't think that the Germans can be put up as the face of humanitarian excellence.

Germany is the biggest host country for refugees in Europe, with almost 1.24 million refugees and 233 000 asylum seekers in the middle of 20211. Half of the refugees are from Syria1. The number of Syrians in Germany was estimated at around 800,000 people in March 2021, making it the third largest community of foreign nationals (after Turks and Poles)2. Despite fears in host communities, Germany has successfully created a path to employment for newcomers, while managing social tensions3.

You can knock European countries as much as you want, but you seem to ignore the ridiculous nonsense that we are responsible for. Sky News did a report into asylum seekers yesterday. The report went back to 2010. Since then we have asked those with failed applications if they would like to be deported. Those that have refused, are still here. They seem to be able to appeal against a refusal, and complete as many new applications as they wish. I believe they said we spent £360million last years on Legal Aid in respect of their representation going through this process. They interviewed a woman from Zimbabwe last night. She has been in the country for 18 years since her first failed application. She was unsure of whether she is now on her 5th or 6th asylum application. They said there was no record of at least 55,000 failed asylum seekers leaving the country since 2010. This was in addition to allowing a sex offender to stay, based on the reaction at home, if he was refused, and returned. Then you have the Bulgarians that falsely claimed £50million in benefits. Lots of people seemed to be attracted to our country because they know they can take the pi55. There seems to be no limit to our incompetence.

I assume you read this article. If so, I wondered why you would see delaying the inevitable as a cause for celebration. This is all our government has done since we left the EU. They had 4 years to prepare, from the referendum, until we actually left, and a further 4 years up until the beginning of this year. Britain suspends import duties on over 100 items
LONDON (Reuters) - Britain on Thursday suspended import duties on more than 100 items, including car parts and fruit juice, until June 2026, responding to industry demand as ministers seek to help domestic firms keep a lid on costs.
The government said it would implement 126 new tariff suspensions on goods which aren't produced in sufficient quantities in Britain. It also said 11 other existing suspensions would be extended.
