People who live abroad should not have the right to vote.
People who are abroad for work yes, but otherwise no.
I suspect that this will anger the EU loving types but why should you have a say in the governing of somewhere you chose not to live in.
Shut up you yawn.
I could probably be classed as an "EU loving type".
Even so, I completely agree with this.
People who are seconded temporarily abroad, or people serving abroad in the forces? Of course they should be allowed to vote. But not people who have chosen permanently to live, and pay their taxes, elsewhere.
Until January 2024, there was a Rule that said you lost the right to vote if you had lived abroad for more than 15 years. That rule was scrapped by this Govt in January 2024. Adding about 2 million extra people allowed to vote. Overwhelmingly the sort of Expat who votes Tory.
So when the Tory faithful accuse Labour of "rigging" future elections by proposing to give the vote to 16 and 17 year olds, ask yourself this question-
Who should get a vote on how this country should be governed for the next 5 years?
1. Someone who is paying indirect tax now (such as VAT), using the education system, and paying direct tax in the future; or 2. Someone who has arranged their affairs in order to embrace a different country as their permanent home for tax purposes, and has no intention of ever returning?

I would probably be classed in the same way. Particularly on this forum. This is despite the fact that my only real opinion on the EU is that we were better in than out. I can see no logical reason to give people that permanently live abroad the right to vote. None whatsoever. If you live abroad, why should you have a say? We should save the costs, and not allow it.

The only other thing I would say on this, is that I fail to see the reason for dragging the EU into this argument. Surely this is a matter for the British Government to decide, and the same rules should apply to those living abroad, wherever they live. Why would the rules differ for those that live say in the USA, or Thailand, compared to the rules that apply to those living in Europe?
Boris. Confident that he had no hand in ruining the Conservative Party. Wanting everyone to hark back to the days when he was (briefly) relevant.
Polarising figure-most people either love him or hate him.
Me? On 1 level, I find him entertaining. As a figurehead, can be effective. As an ideas man, provided a grown up can sort out the good ideas from the bonkers ones, has a place.
What he is most definitely not is a man capable of leading. He has the mind set of a toddler, still believing the World spins round him-it never did, and now people realise that.
"Serfdom" kind of sums him up. An evocative word-but bearing no actual resemblance to the real World that everyone else lives in.
Depending on your view, he could be a man full of pithy sayings.

Or just full of pith.
I would have said sh1t. I suspect he would be good fun to have a pint with. He should never been allowed near the levers of power unsupervised.
Some of the Tories seem to be looking for a magic wand, in order to avoid some hard work. Some want to bring back Boris, assuming this would repeat the 2019 result. Others want to amalgamate with Reform, thinking they could just add their votes. I dont think that either is a solution to their problems.
Anyone that values truth, integrity, and honesty, must surely hate Boris.
