SPT Las Vegas Poll

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 160,129

If you qualified for SPT Vegas would you rather play in a private tournament with Sky qualifiers (around 30 players) or a typical big field tournament. (Assume buy in value is the same)

Would be nice to qualify though. I am still hurting from bubble last year.

Loved the experience with SKY, and it's nice to keep the Prize Money within the SKY Community ........ tho' I must admit it was a fairly close-run thing for me, 'coz it must be great to play in an unaffordable Tourney buy-in in VEGAS :)

With you asking the question in the first place, it leans towards the possibility of a SKYPoker VEGAS trip in the future ......hopefully this Year :p<3B)

Venetian Deepstack games are great fun and give the full Vegas poker experience, Resorts World ran some very decent games in December as well.

WSOP events still a bucket list for me so that is my vote

The private Sky tournament I thought was a good social event, good to meet and play with names you play with throughout the year. The prize pool staying within the sky player pool is also better than getting lost in a big Vegas pot.
Also the sky comp only lasts 5/6 hours from memory which is far better than being committed to a long multi-day format imo.

Would be nice to have some form of clause in a contract saying promo winners only get expenses if they are actually going to attend, rather than banking the expenses only to not bother going, denying people who come 2nd in the promo a chance to actually go. Not that I'm bitter or anything.

Completely agree mate I was gutted to bubble one of the finals and felt even worse a month or so later when the guy that knocked me out was chatting to someone on my table saying that he didn't go but was happy to get a grand.
Reason for not going he is an anti vaxxer so couldn't go to Vegas :(
    Worth a look at @Tikay10 ?
I know a lot of people won their final seats in promos etc but does go against the whole ethos of the sky vegas package and community.

I was lucky enough to go to Vegas with Sky a few years ago and, whilst playing a Vegas MTT is an experience, I would have preferred to have played a smaller tourney with just the Sky players.

Explaining to your other half that, if things go well, you'll be playing poker for three of the 7 days you'll be in Vegas didn't go down too well! 'Luckily' I was out after a few hours (ran KK into JJ, J high flop) so could spend more time with my other half and peace was restored.

This was a tough decision, I was lucky enough to win a package in 2019, the private tournament was very enjoyable, against a very tough field.
I was also lucky enough to be able to play a couple of WSOP events during an extended stay. If , as a recreational player, you are unable to stay longer and or be able to afford to play a Vegas tournament, it would be better to play one of those.
Whichever way it goes people will have a magnificent time.

We used to play in the $1,000 satellites to the Main Event. These were great fun and the closest thing to playing in the Main itself. The potential prize was the same, a chance to win big money.

    What about a potential format for Skypoker;

A simple All in satellite at the meet and greet with Main Event entry as first prize.
All others have a $1,000 entry to Satellite to the Main Event.

    Best of both worlds?

    Maybe cost too much?

Just a thought anyway as I am sure it will be a trip to remember for any poker player.

Completely agree. It is a tough choice. Either is way better than no Vegas trip at all.

I have been lucky enough to go to Vegas with Sky for both types of Tournament. Both are good. I have been to Vegas with various other sites, and can honestly say Sky look after you better than everyone else.

But, for me, I marginally prefer Sky Poker against the World, to Sky players against 1 another.

The WSOP events are great. But there are a lot of separate series at other casinos going on at the same time that probably offer better EV.

Looks like I misclicked my status, but keeping it in the family has to be better. Only way I'd like to include non-Sky players is if Sky were entering players jnto the Main Event.

Also not sure why SPT Vegas is really a thing. It doesn't appeal to those of us that can't take a week off from work and family at relatively short notice. That and it's a long way to go to visit a town that isn't all that. It would be better imo to have a high roller event somewhere plush or unusual in the UK, which you can only qualify for on Sky.

I voted as a rec player and to keep it in house, however if it stays as a Sky only event, one subtle change I’d like sky to consider is a buy in option for those people who might accompany a winner but themselves haven’t won a seat? ( Keith n Paula, a Bromley A Grimsby to name 2 or 3 couples that might be out there?) just a thought?

I just think the big Vegas tournament would be more fun both for the player and the rail.
