Ok and the penultimate trio of tracks from my "lost" CD allows exposure to 3 of NWOBHM's exponents who never really fulfilled their potential despite having such talents as Dennis Stratton, John Sykes and Brian Tatler in their lineups.
The final 3 songs will be posted tomorrow but in the meantime enjoy these.
Ok so the final trio of songs from the found CD feature a very new and raw band who later split opinion within the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal and were seen by many as selling out. The crowd reaction at Reading was at the best hostile, some who were present use the expression Toxic Hatred.
Second band need no introduction having been established Heavy Rock Gods for a decade by the onset of the 80's but the nasal pitch of Ozzy was replaced on this album by the brilliant vocals of Ronnie James Dio some didn't like it but I loved it.
Finally not a metal band but a hard driving blues outfit with a live number which showcased messers Lord, Moody and Marsden at their blistering best whilst Coverdale just did what Coverdale does. Paice and Murray on skins and bass respectively sealed the deal.
Good afternoon all. Today I offer a trio of songs from established Hard Rock bands.
First up are a Scottish powerhouse who are still gigging today whilst the second band were a doyen of the genre for over 30 years. We end with arguably the best line up of an ever evolving band but when you have Blackmore, Dio, Powell, Airey and Bain what's not to like. Oh and yes the last track is longer than Bohemian Rhapsody.
@TheEdge949 that ufo band have some great tunes, first time I heard them was after one of my customers recommended them, a live album - strangers in the night;
Many put up Strangers in the Night as one of the best live albums from the heavy rock/ metal genre. Certainly it gets into my top 20.
This album was the reason that the brilliant Michael Schenker left the band during this tour 1979 as he refused to record overdubs for the guitar work. This led to the arrival of Paul Chapman who, ironically had what many fans felt was a style of play that actually suited UFO's live sound better than the enigmatic Wunderkind.
Whilst the first album to feature him, No Place To Run was not universally well received, many blame that on George Martin who produced it, certainly his work with Bassist Pete Way on the subsequent Wild, Willing and Innocent tour and the Mechanix tour 18 months later was brilliant.
I thought long and hard about posting these 3 tracks.
They contain explicit lyrics and in the case of the album cover for the second one a picture that might be distressing. However I feel that these songs contain powerful meaning which is maybe more relevant now than when they were first released.
The first is from perhaps the greatest gangster metal album of all time which has undergone bans, album cover reworks and heavy censorship over the years. I could have used almost any one of the tracks but chose this one because I was uncertain whether "Cop Killer" would get me a forum ban.
The second choice may surprise some but I feel it's message is aimed more at you as a person rather than "Killing In The Name Of", which directs the sentiment at the public in general. the depiction on the album cover caused outrage and was banned in several countries. The fact that it's now deemed acceptable speaks more for our desensitisation than of any liberal stance.
Finally, it's Marshall Bruce Mathers lll with perhaps his biggest hit. Again there were others that I could have used. "Stan" almost got in ahead of this one and "I'm Not Afraid" was another that I considered.
Going to JAMC tomorrow night again almost 40 years since i first bought Psycho Candy and saw them in Glasgow, was blown away then and this is off their latest album, which much better than i thought it would be, really looking forward to seeing them.
