I think Australia’s bowling attack is better on the sort of pitches we are going to be playing on, the lack of rain could lead to quick bouncy tracks , we may need our incredibly long batting lineup. I hope I’m wrong. I would have played young Ahmed the Leggie, he did well in Pakistan and if you’re good enough you’re old enough.

in england is it the same as in scotland, when you are down the park and you see some boys playing cricket, you just know they all go or went to the posh school, lol

Posh boys? People like Ben Stokes and James Anderson went to state schools. Joe Root did until, aged 15, he got a cricket sports scholarship to a Private School.

I was lucky enough to be a free place boy at a Public School. And two of the reasons I became better at Cricket were:-

    1. My school didn't sell off its sports fields; and
    2. Had specialist PE staff. So-for example-when you are regularly facing a former Test fast bowler (J K Lever) your forward defensive rapidly improves ;)

Never quite understood why cricket is seen as a "posh" sport. Leaving to 1 side the obvious ones like Polo, Rugby Union, Golf and Tennis seem rather more obvious examples.

There are Cricket and Rugby clubs in ma town and I've watched them a couple of times, they are full of Crawfords, Farquhar, and the like, a lot of them with their heids stuck up they're erses.

Polo - never met anybody who's played Polo, the nearest I've ever been to a player is these punters who come in the pub with their Ralph Lauren shirts and the collar turned up.

Golf - Wouldnae say Golf is a posh sport, sure there are private clubs but there are loads of Municples up here and you can get into Golf for nothing.

Tennis - There are municple courts in ma town, ah used to love playin Tennis, there were a few players who thought they were better than you, but they soon got telt.

An outrageous first over as Joe Root scores 17 including 2 sixes with reverse sweeps. WTF?

I've never seen the like of it in Test cricket, especially at the start of Day 4 in a finely-balanced 1st Ashes Test.

It's continued too, the ball is being despatched to all corners of Headingley, & I'm not sure we've seen a defensive stroke yet.

On a slightly different note I think The Ashes series should be on 'The Crown Jewels' list of televised sports.

Category A - must be shown live on terrestrial.

    Olympic games

    Football world cup

    Football European Championship

    FA Cup final

Scottish FA Cup final (in Scotland)

    Grand National

    The Derby

    Wimbledon finals

    Rugby League Challenge Cup final

    Rugby Union World Cup final

Category B - highlights must be show on terrestrial TV

    Cricket Tests in England

    Wimbledon up to finals

All other Rugby Union World Cup matches

Six Nations Rugby matches involving home countries

    Commonwealth Games

    World Athletics Championships

Cricket World Cup final, semi-finals and matches involving home countries
