......but a 6 month stay in California, based in the Bay area of San Francisco, travelling around and playing Golf, particularly on the Monterey Peninsula, including staying for a couple of days in the Lodge overlooking the 18th green at Pebble Beach, was the best experience of my Life...... so far
I went to Benidorm for the 1st time in February for a short break , it was so clean you could eat your dinner off the pavement, it surprised me how nice it was especially the Old Town
I've been going to Roda in Corfu for the last 5 years and we love it chilled relaxing with lots of folks in my age group and mostly working class or retired P
Been to few of those presentations. They are very convincing until you read the small print.
Owned a timeshare for 9 years in Malta. Excellent product. Would still own now if the greedy resort hadn't pushed the maintenance fees too high.
Which resort?
We had the Penthouse Suite in the Mercure San Antonio Hotel and Spa, Qawra. Top floor 3 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, 2 bathrooms, full board, 2 balconies, hot tubs, sea views out over Saint Pauls Bay. Because it could accommodate up to 8 people it was affordable as we often split the fees with family who wished to holiday with us and flights were never expensive.
The maintenance was scheduled to rise at 5 - 6% per annum and did, which was fine. However, The Maltese Government decided to hike all utility fees by 25% to get funds through taxation and that changed everything. Suddenly all inclusive in exotic locations was a less expensive option.

We simply gave up the time slot and walked away.
That must have been a bargain initially. I suppose you have to blame the government rather than the resort. They probably had no choice, other than to pass the costs on to the timeshare owners.
I started selling timeshare in 1998. I became a sales director in the early 2000s. I often thought that if you could sell timeshare without maintenance fees, it would be perfect. At the end of 2006, I introduced a product which did exactly that. It was a fractional rather than a timeshare. Fractions had been sold for years in the USA, and were just a bigger share than a timeshare. My plan was that we would sell people 4 weeks, but they could only use two. Instead of charging a maintenance fee, we would rent out the weeks that they had bought, but couldnt use. So we were selling half the weeks, and renting the other half out. This gave the purchaser up to 32 years of maintenance free holidays. We subsequently extended this to a scheme where they could buy two weeks, but only use one. The company I worked for still sell this product today. Although I believe they have introduced a smallish maintenance fee to new buyers. I believe it is £300. Which just happens to be exactly the same as the maintenance fees we were charging in 1998. So still great value for money.
I thought timeshare was a great product. More rentals are available now at timeshare resorts, than there were. It gives you an idea of the value. I have booked sleep 8s at a Marriott in Spain, which was available on a rental site for £3.5k. The cost to me was a maintenance fee, plus a £100 exchange fee.
Timeshare was never about cheap holidays, it was about quality holidays at value for money prices.

So did you mostly go back there, rather than exchange?

India is a fascinating country.
Safari trip in Tanzania was inspiring.
US road trips have been fun.
City breaks in NYC and Paris have been great.
Sunshine trips to Morocco and Cuba were both relaxing and interesting.
UK breaks in North Devon and Cornwall were memorable.
I'm sure there are some I'm forgetting. Some trips have been okay only despite high expectations.
I would love to go to Tanzania. People don't realise how epic that place is. Tanzania has some of the best beaches and safaris in the world.

Looked at one near Disneyland years ago. Potential maintenance after 10 years astranomical.
Needless to say didn’t go ahead with it.

Greek islands, pick anyone!
Just out of interest who did you get to project the maintenance after 10 years?
Mystic Meg?
