I laughed but then felt guilty. The mental demise of this man, so public and so ridiculed has been very sad to watch. He lost his wife and one year old daughter in a car accident when he was 30, that's a huge loss and he considered suicide, yet he went on to become president. Whatever your political leanings let's try and remember him for who he was not his decline.

    Here's a better picture.

This is the best post I have seen in here for some time. Accurate. And thought-provoking. In short (whatever your political leanings) a man who should have fought and won the 2016 election (in 2016 he was twice the Politician Hillary Clinton was). Who (IMHO) should not have fought the 2020 election. And should not have been allowed anywhere near the 2024 election.

    Some thoughts:-

    1. The attack on Biden by Trump in their televised debate showed that being a successful politician is fundamentally different from being a successful human being. He saw the opening-and moved in for the kill

    2. Strangely, it then opened my eyes as to why Lawyers tend to be very successful at gaining positions of power. Of being good politicians in that sense-even though I believe Lawyers are often not good at being politicians from the Country's point of view. Simply because a successful Lawyer does not eviscerate a weaker rival. Why? So you can beat them time and time again. Because I believe Trump would have had an easier victory in 2024 v Biden. He overplayed his hand. But at least he played his hand

    3. The Harris campaign showed that nice people are not leaders. She got her big political break from Biden. She didn't have the ability or will to distance herself from some parts of his administration. When she had to in order to win. For example, the bit where she was asked what she would have done differently in the last 4 years. And replied "nothing". Her campaign did not deal with the economic strengths or weaknesses of the last 4 years. And it needed to. Particularly when, in the last 48 hours of the campaign, Trump finally played the economic cards at his disposal

Sadly, Biden will not be remembered as the tremendous politician he once was. But rather the enfeebled President that he became.

    Which is a shame.

I suspect the world might be a better place if Biden had won in 2016 and Trump in 2020

Guardian Offers ‘Therapy and Support’ to Staff Upset from Trump’s Win.

It appears that the Guardian, in all its virtue-signalling glory, is pulling out the stops to manage what some would call an acute case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Guardian editor Katharine Viner has been in full crisis mode since Donald Trump’s return to the White House, swiftly penning a heartfelt appeal to the newspaper’s “hundreds of readers” to keep Guardian journalism afloat by supporting its “well-funded independent journalism.”

As reported in Guido, an email to all Guardian staff, Viner reportedly warned that “a Trump win could reverberate for a million years,” and acknowledged that the result was “very upsetting for many colleagues.” She urged staff in the UK to “contact your American colleagues to offer your support” because, naturally, “they will be most directly affected by the result.”

This is the Guardian, after all – the self-declared safe haven for wokery and progressives needing a shoulder to cry on.

Come on, @lucy4 You are better than that.

Conservativepost is nothing to do with the Conservative Party. It is exactly the sort of Far Right, conspiracy theory espousing bunch of whack jobs no-one who values their sanity should take seriously

https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/conservative-post/#:~:text=Overall, we rate the Conservative Post Questionable based, conspiracy theories, and the publication of Fake News.

I genuinely thought it was connected to The Conservative Party, although other publications have reported the same article and it was the easiest one to copy & paste.

    Fair comment.

It's fair enough on 1 level to poke fun at some of the Guardian readers.

There is 1 small part of me that thinks such people should just grow a pair. But some people are overly sensitive to such things. And there really is nothing wrong in trying to help such people.

It's better than throwing a temper tantrum claiming it's not fair and storming Government buildings ;)

one of most vile of human beings and I for one was hoping it was 4" to the right...no more from me on Trump....

A young black female was spot on when she said after the result " the American culture isn't ready for a female president, let alone a woman of colour"
  • EssexphilEssexphil Member Posts: 8,774
It was a disappointing result. Not least for Melania Trump, who is now going to have to continue to be happily married for a while yet.

Democracy doesn't mean the person I want to win, wins.

I think the American electorate genuinely believe they will be better off economically under The Donald. Time will tell.

I disagree about the American culture being ready for a female President. I think it is all too easy to hide behind excuses. The US electorate preferred him to her. I simply do not believe it is just they prefer any man to any woman. Or any White person over anyone non-White person.

Donald Trump Jr sounds like a horrid man.

But he has not been elected to Office.

I hated President Biden being attacked for the actions of his son. And, for the exact same reasons, I object to President-elect Trump being attacked for the actions of 1 of his sons.

It may be relevant to talk about a father's involvement in their son's dealings (in both cases). But the actions of the son by itself? Not for me

While I'm on the subject, would refer you to the end of the article.

Where Jr is being slaughtered for putting up a mugshot of his Dad, alongside Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris. With the Headline

"Trump arrested for beating 2 Women"

    Questionable taste. But funny...

so who would you vote for if you had the vote and had to vote one or the other donald trump or donald trump JR?

well either way one of them is highly likely the president after this election cycle. Trump could serve a third term if he alters the us constitution, if not maybe its JD Vance or Trump JR one thing is 99.99% certain though next election after this is Republican again.

There is almost no way it can go any different.

Ive not read the article and I have no intention of reading it. I'm basing my opinion on the headline.

The thing that bothers me, his son must be privacy to what gets said behind closed doors and then he gloats.

right and some people will say that she cant win because she is a black women and the voters are sexist or racist. In truth its this stuff why they keep losing to Trump. Not because of the other candidate been a women or black but because they always want to play that card and cannot see the other issues.

When people consistently see the Media lie and manipulate the truth about Trump they stop being taken seriously even when they are telling the truth. They have lost all credibility and I can find multiple cases of such things in the media.

Does Trump lie more then the media hard to say he certainly lies a lot but then the mainstream media has always been a well known manipulator of the truth.

I suppose when the margins for either candidate in an election often end up been settled on a few percentage points you only need a small percentage of the electorate to be some form of racist sexist or some other ist to significantly influence an elections results.

All that being said the main reason the left the democrats absolutely definitively certainly cannot win the next election is because they have made accusations that Trump wants to turn America into a dictatorship. If Trump does go full dictator any elections if any will be shams where the media is totally controlled and potentially the election actually rigged.

If they have an open and free election with no censorship then the democrats are shown to be complete alarmist liars and so will lose all credibility and lose.

Hence there is absolutely no way they can win the next election regardless of who they put forward.
