We have a finite amount of money. If 1 set of people get more, another set have to receive less or pay more. Simple as that.
We need to stop these ridiculous campaigns where people vote for the magic money tree.
Pensioners are not being "robbed".
From each according to his ability. To each according to their need.
While I am on a rant, why is it that people are too sick to work are pilloried as lazy. People below Pension Age who choose not to work are in some way cheating us all.
Whereas, when you reach Pension Age some sort of magic door opens and you are entitled to everything, regardless of need. Even those still working.
What struck me about the article above was that the couple featured in the article, both receive a full state pension, which means they cant claim pension credit, which would qualify them for the Winter fuel benefit. They are housing association tenants, receive council tax credit, and housing benefit. The wife also receives a pip payment.
They dont seem to have anything to moan about.
It just seems stupid to give money to those that dont need it.

Another point on this argument is that the press seems to have completely forgotten about the triple lock. They have previously argued that the triple lock has provided pensioners with exorbitant annual increases. These increases have been fuelled by high inflation, partly caused by energy prices. The state pension increase for 2021, was 2.5%. 2022 was 3,1%.. 2023 was 10.1%. 2024 was 8.5%. Therefore substantial increases over the last 2 years. This will have provided someone on full state pension an increase of around £2k per year. Therefore a couple in receipt of full state pension an increase of around £4k per annum. So an increase of around £80 per week. The loss of the Winter fuel allowance of £300 per year. Therefore a loss of around £6 per week. A net increase of £74 per week. In addition to this, energy prices have fallen. In my own case, my direct debit that covers my energy bills, has fallen by £100 per month. Despite this, I have substantial credit in my account going into the Summer, which I am certain will cover the increased costs during the Winter. Inflation also seems pretty much under control again. So pensioners have received substantial increases for the last 2 years, as well as a considerable reduction in their outgoings. Some might say they have had the penny and the bun. Parts of the press seem to have very short memories on this. They seem to support both sides of the argument. That the triple lock provides pensioners with excessive increases, and the loss of the Winter fuel allowance will cause some of them to die.
