Ok so looking for a quickish challenge that I can do anywhere I decided to take on Everest Anywhere.
The challenge is to gain a vertical ascent8,849m or 29,032 feet by utilising staircases, stairmasters, and generally any form of exercise that gains verts. Hillwalking is allowed.
For context a floor on a stair master machine is equivalent to a standard high rise floor of 10ft or 3.5m so just using one of these would require 2,904 floors to complete.
Any hillwalking is calculated from the start point contour to the summit cairn. So I cant just hike Snowdon 9 times and go job done because although its 3,560ft or 1,085m a.s.l. none of the paths start at sea level and 2 begin at nearly 1,200ft.
Anyway you get the general idea. So I'm allowing myself 2 months to complete from Sept 1st through to Oct 31st. That shouldn't be too hard on the body although I may feel differently after a few days.
Either way it's better than doing nothing.
Speak soon.

Total ascent 500ft
Ascent remaining 28,532ft
I've climbed Everest many times......... in my sleep. hic!
Literally could not make any more floors so finished it off on the treadmill.
45 floors on the climbmaster = 450ft of ascent
0.25miles @ 6% incline on treadmill = 79ft of ascent
Total for day = 529ft
Total ascent = 1,029ft
Ascent remaining = 28,005ft.
That's all for now.
Not quite, two of the three have passed away.
The name of the album refers to the number of band members who were reduced in this album to only three, after the departure of guitarist Steve Hackett.
70 floors on the Climbmaster = 700ft of ascent
0.5 miles @ 7.5% incline on the treadmill = 198ft of ascent
Total current ascent =1,927ft
Ascent remaining = 27,107ft
Going to sit in a bath of ice water now. Calves are screaming.
0.50 miles @ 6% incline = 158ft of ascent
0.25 miles @ 10% incline = 132ft of ascent
0.25 miles @ 12.5% incline =165ft of ascent
11 floors = 110ft of ascent.
Total ascent for the day = 565ft
Current total ascent = 2,492ft
Ascent remaining = 26,542ft
Have a nice day all.
12.5% incline must soon start to hurt.
Fridays figures are really simple.
62 floors on the climbmaster = 620 feet of ascent
Total ascent for the day = 620ft
Current total ascent = 3,112ft
Ascent remaining = 25,922
The initial plan is to take a day off on Saturday but I might just do a few cheeky floors. It really depends on how the calves feel tbh, everything else, knees, ankles, quads and hamstrings are coping nicely with only minor discomfort.
Anyhow, have a great weekend everyone.
12 floors done so 120ft in the bank and the first milestone.
3,232ft of total ascent puts me above Scafell Pike, Englands highest at 3,209ft.
Tomorrows effort should see Snowdon dispatched and Ben Nevis should be gone by Wednesday.
Then it's onto Europe.
Total current ascent = 3,232ft
Ascent remaining = 25,802ft
0.25 mile @ 7.5% incline = 99ft of ascent - steady pace
0.25 mile @ 10.0% incline = 132ft of ascent - a little slower, the lactic acid is building
0.25 mile @ 12.5% incline = 165ft of ascent - ouch, calves are burning
0.25 mile @ 15.0% incline = 198ft of ascent - ffs, why do I do this to myself.
Total ascent for the day = 594ft
Total current ascent = 3,826ft
Ascent remaining =25,208ft
Hoping for a big day Tuesday, always assuming my calves still work.
Tuesday was a decent session with 86 floors on the climbmaster for 860ft of ascent.
Just so you get an idea of vertical steps taken, each floor takes 16 steps to complete. This remains a constant regardless of the speed of the machine.
So the numbers are now as follows.
Total current ascent = 4,686ft
Ascent remaining = 24,348ft
Ok, I'm now higher than anything in the U.K. so Triglav in Slovenia is next on the list at 9,396ft I'm almost halfway to that.
