Fresh from a particularly enjoyable milsim on Anglesey and as promised the total elevation for the whole exercise was 1,883ft.
It helped that our HQ was atop a rise with an elevated field of fire which meant that every time we got hit we had to return to respawn. I got shot plenty.
Total Current ascent = 10,777
Ascent remaining = 18,257
Should have been driving to Great Yarmouth today for 4 days R&R however, illness in the family has postponed that until tomorrow. Whilst it's as flat as a witches tit I shall be hitting the gym there to keep the floors rolling, or the bars to stay hydrated.
Went to the gym in Yarmouth yesterday then travelled home last night in weather that could only be described as biblical. In fact if a line of animals in 2x2 formation had been waiting to get on a large wooden boat I wouldn't have batted an eyelid.
A nice restful weekend meant a busy week ahead on the climb mill. However, 35 floors in and omg wtf just happened.
Well it's called a calf strain and it hurts like mad, so much so in fact that I honestly had tears in my eyes as I stumbled to a near seat and tried to get my leg in a position that didn't hurt.
That was something of an exercise in futility although an ice pack and 10 mg of morphine later it was bearable if somewhat uncomfortable.
The injury itself is not severe which means that with careful management I should be back to something like normal in a couple of weeks, in the meantime gentle weight supported exercise is recommended to keep everything supple.
Will need to see how it goes but I'm thinking maybe step up on the right foot and just bring the left foot onto the same step, almost baby steps style. Yes it will mean double the time to complete a floor but hey it's supposed to be a challenge.
So compression stockings and painkillers at the ready and I'll let you know what happens.
Well a bit like bad beats, you wait a while and several come together, life has compounded the injury.
Laid up with a heavy cold and high temperature whilst trying to recover from the calf injury has seriously curtailed progress in the challenge with only 90 floors in total being completed.
So 90 floors = 900ft of ascent
Current total ascent = 14,257ft
Ascent remaining = 14,777ft
Will probably use the rest of the week to get healthy and then go full bore from Monday.
While you've been away......... hic! Your Task has got Greater.

Hi all, after a 10 day hiatus I return to the land of the living.
Covid, injury and a water infection have pretty much curtailed proceedings since my last post with only 1,100ft of elevation possible and believe me that was a struggle.
I almost cancelled yesterdays trip to Buxton to see kenton Cool deliver his K2 Savage Mountain presentation. However, the missus decided that £100 on the hotel and £45 on 2 tickets was not going to waste so we went and had an amazing evening.
Current ascent 15,357ft
Ascent remaining 13,677ft
I'll get there.
One of these 2 guys has summited Everest 18 times, K2 once, conquered numerous 7,000m and 8,000m peaks, completed the 7 Summits and guides in The Himalaya, The Karakorum and The Alps.
LMAO. Actually Sean, I don't own a Stoke hat. Which is surprising in that I have one for every other team I root for. I have a Castleford Tigers cap, a New York Giants cap and beanie, a Mets cap, an England cap, several VR46 caps from back in the day and even a Carl Fogarty cap from before the internet.
The merch that Kenton sells is all in aid of the Juniper Fund set up to provide support for the families of high altitude porters and Sherpas who lose their lives in the Himalayan and Karakorum ranges.
He's wearing the shirt which unfortunately, like the hoodies, aren't made for fat lumps like me. I bought the hat, the missus got a shirt although I suspect it will be a tight fit, it's ok she never reads these posts, and the fund got £40.
On a serious note the water infection has developed into something a little more debilitating as I am currently catheterised and taking the spectrum of anti biotics.
Not certain of if or when the tube will come out, hopefully sooner rather than later but as you can imagine trying to train with a 2L bag of pee strapped to your leg is not ideal.
I'm frustrated, angry, in pain and feeling just a little bit hacked off. My real fear is that when I find myself in these mental downswings, I usually end up in a junk food and alcohol fest with alcohol taking the main role, so the outcome is always somewhat uncertain.

Tough choice.
Completed 85 floors on the climb mill so that's another 850 feet in the bank.
Total current ascent = 11,627
Ascent remaining = 17,407
On to tomorrow.
Back on it this morning at my home gym.
So 2 lots of totals to give you.

Don't know what the weekend has in store, legs are sore, hips ache and trainers are falling apart.
Have a great weekend yeah.
Nearly halfway now, well done Mark.
