It's still a "work in progress" for me this game, but your feedback has helped.
I guess, I just need more experience playing it. Particularly making the transition of "comfort calling" good low hands to making them 3betting prospects at various stack depths.
I mean it's "comfortable" to call with say Ac,2s,5c,6d, or Ad,3s,6s,Qh, but if the ICM/Stack levels mean we have fold equity, by just calling these hands, aren't we missing out on the prospect of taking down pots uncontested pre?
The hands above are a bit different to the 3456 scenario, largely because we have an Ace, so regarding the above hands, how often are we 3betting them and how aften are we just calling at the various stack depths?
Sorry this has gone on and on, your answers which I am greatly appreciative off, seem to then lead me to further questions.
If seems to me that there is a PLO mindset that is "comfortable" just calling with these good low hands, but is comfort the most +EV
I guess when calling if you hit the nut low say on the turn (especially say if you have A46T say on 2,3,Q,7 flop, you can "build the pot on the turn with perhaps a half pot bet" with the intention to bomb most rivers to get them off a potentially better high hand. Yes they could have A4xx and you might get quartered, but worth the risk to win the lot if they fold? As they often won't know if you have a "very good" high or the nut low or both.
My experience, albeit limited to low stakes Sky MTTs is that you don't have anywhere near as much fold equity as you do in holdem MTTs, certainly early on in the MTT. ICM knowledge is also not as good in the Sky PLO8 MTTs although it seems to be improving.
The hands you mention above Ac,2s,5c,6d, or Ad,3s,6s,Qh, are certainly in my 3 and 4 betting range (the first one more so because of the A2 and suited ace ). It depends on stack depth (doesn't everything?) I'm probably NOT trying to get AIP early with those hands (like AK at holdem?) as if you can get AIP it's almost certainly against a better hand, but later on I'm quite happy to go with them. I think PLO8 remains playable to a much shorter stack then holdem though because it's pot limit and I've found that even at only 10bb deep if you can get it AIP with those hands you may well be up against good aces, but then at 10 - 15bb you do have more fold equity, often (not always) because the players left at that stage have more understanding of the game.
p.s. I'm enjoying these posts, even though I'm not very good it's good to see what better players think.

Is that an OK way of thinking?
