when that happens i like to respond something like ...
a player's propensity to be abusive is inversely proportionate to their skill and of a magnitude that is consistent with their lack of understanding of probability
if that fails, usually seeng more abuse.. i just riffle their chips
i normally find these players good to play against as they are wound up and vulnerable to making mistakes and try to take advantage of that.
I would never turn chat box off as i normally play one table and the majority of the chat is good banter
I have been known to get involved if someone is going over the top, but only when i,m in the mood and i know i can outwit him on the chatbox (without going to far off course) and its not going to affect my game, but nextime i will be coming back to this thead to copy and paste jockBMW,s response (on the first page of thread)

lol did you get that from Merenovice?:)
nice line, although the chances of your abusive opponant actually understanding what this means is very slim indeed, as they clearly have the IQ of a peanut to be abusive in the first place!
ive found the most abuse ive found here is at low stakes cash!!! there are lots of people that think they are the next phil helmuth lol!! Posted by donkeyplop

This is indeed a worrying trend, but certainly something that appears to be prevalent on the poker landscape these days.
I had insomnia last night, so played some cash on Sky – something that I very rarely do. A few hands in, I was dealt ace jack in late position, and raised. I got called, and the flop brought a jack. ‘That's not too bad’, I thought ‘Top pair, and just about the best kicker you could hope for’. So I bet, and got called again. The turn brought another jack. Guess what? I bet again... and got called.
Turns out, the other chap didn't believe I'd hit, and was merely playing ace high – and a very raggy one at that. He filled the chat box with all manner of colourful invective, about how my mother had male reproductive organs.
You should have seen my Mum's face when I drove to Woodford at 4am with a torch, to see if there was any truth in his allegations.
Needless to say, he was talking out of a hole in his hat.
I had chat abuse tonight, i polietly made my point back when I had the "how can you push with that?!!", anyway if it bothers me I report and if it doesnt I ignore.

I IGNORE ABUSIVE PLAYERS BECAUSE IT`S THE ONLY THEY THIINK CAN WIN, BUT IF THEY GO OTT THEN I`LL REPORT, I WILL ALSO ADMIT I WAS RUDE EARLIER TO A PLAYER WHO KNOCKED ME OUT, BUT THEY KNEW I WAS JOKING BECAUSE I SAID W/P AND WAS TAKIN MICK WHILE RAILING WHEN OUT.

at the end of the day its all pretty harmless they are just venting frustration, but its not half entertaining during weak hands
