I'd wait.....yeah I know it's the easiest £1000 I'd ever make if I stole but if I were the other player I'd be gutted!

As Phil12uk said your opponent has played for over 4 hours to get to that point and deserves a fair chance at the HU battle. If I were disconnected at that point and my opponent stole I'd be gutted so I wouldn't do that to someone else! Yes it's not cheating but it's not nice........

Obviously if they won I'd be mega hacked off! :P But I'd definetely wait on my opponent!

Hey batman - Whatever you would chose to do in this hypothetical situation, cannot be criticised.

Its more of a moral dilemma, therefore doesnt require an official ruling.

What do you expect customer care would say?

They can't tell you what to do.......how to play.....

The only issue should be with your conscience I guess.

I didn't expect so many comments on this thread, I expected people to be shy about admitting they would steal. I'm sure there are some people who have chosen just to vote and remain unknown, but for people willing to discuss it, I will gladly do so and put across another point of view.

How about the option of stealing, getting the game won, and the money banked. Its yours, and you can do with it whatever you like.

Theres nothing stopping you giving a %age of the extra winnings, for example, 20% of 1k to the opponentva bank transfer or whatever.

Again, I don't think I would take this option either, but it's open to you in that situation, to get the money, and reduce the guilt (if you have any)

and @ Phil12uk - I was in the chatox when that HU was going on, you played a great game, as did Scotty. However when he disconnected, you had a strong chip lead, maybe 3-1 (although deepish still by HU standards).

What would you have done, if there was no1 watching, scotty wasnt scotty, and the chip stacks were reversed, and u were a 3-1 underdog with the stacks as they were.

You would still wait? (obviously you are never ever gonna go bak on ur decision and say u wud steal, maybe u cud pm me your honest answer? lol)

I think the lower the amount involved, the less likely people are to steal. Do you agree?

I think it's the opposite, the more money involved the more likely they are to steal. Me, I'd give them 5 minutes and then let the thievery commence.

    lol yeh - more money = steal....right?

Ofc its all relative to ur bankroll I guess, If I wanted to try a game of omaha hi/lo, i may register for a £1 game, and if the guy aint there....wait for him.....

Coz im playing for the game-play rather than the money

Not sure many ppl on here play the primo for anything other than money tho.....

1k is significant to anyones br

If I had never heard of the oppo, then I would steal.  If my oppo was familiar to me, like a forum reg, then I would wait.
I would however expect the oppo, or a railer to make a big post on the forum saying what an absolute gentleman I was, and they will never forget the gesture for the rest of their life, maybe a christmas card or even a mention in their will.

On the subject, if it's not heads-up I always blame another player in the chatbox as soon as the away player gets reconnected.

    Can get quite amusing.

Like Phil I have been in this exact situation. I was 3 way in the £55 BH. At exactly mid-night on the dot a guy d/c. As there were still 2 of us there we carried on, I knocked him out and got HU... I waited for 5 minutes and he still didnt come back so had to steal his blinds.

You say waiting then carrying on isn't an option... OK so you decide to wait. How long do you wait? 30 minutes? 2 hours? 24 hours? At some point you need to say enough is enough and take the blinds.  Ihad about 10 people railing me that night as it was a TV tournament with them all screaming at me to steal the blinds at the end of the day we play poker for the £ I have kids to feed and rent to pay, I thought I was very kind by giving him 5 minutes to return considering it was over 1k to win the HU battle.

it's 1k, no decision, hammer the raise button till your finger starts to bleed.
I guess you just weigh up the virtual guarantee of 1k vs the chance of 1k and feeling like a good person because you believed yourself to act in a sporting manner. For me £1k is worth way more than any feel good i would get from waiting but that's because i have no soul...

At that stage of the game I would sit out and wait for my opponent to return, but like Oynutter, if they hadn't come back after a lenghty period then I would start to steal.

I would sit out for 20 minutes at least.  By the time 20 minutes rolls around it looks like a serious disconnect issue plus the other guy would probably assume I have been stealing the blinds and there's no point trying to reconnect so they'd stop trying.

Dohhhhhhh, the thing you have to remember is the blinds will keep going up.  Is anyone willing to sit out in this situation until the blinds have both of us all in even though we are sat out and it turns into Russian Roulette?

I think most people would do different things depending on the situation.

If you are on a smallish site such as Sky where you are likely to know the OP then a considerable amount of time is likely to be given. If on the other hand you were on one of the mega sites where you didn't know anyone then I think most people would be less forgiving.

I've been on both sides of this. My first ever tourmnament win was when the guy I was H2H with disconnected. I wasn't doing particularly well at the time but I sat out for about 15 minutes. I then took all the blinds  and ''won'' the game. Some years later I was disconnected and in the same situation and after trying frantically to re-connect I got back on to find my opponent sitting patiently waiting for me to return. I lost - I was so impressed that he had waited I had no aggression left in me. Would I wait next time? Definitely yes, my first tournament win wasn't what it should have been and to this day I don't think of it as a victory.

Having said all that, if it was Dohhhhhhh I'd take the blinds every time ;o)
