In Response to Re: telling cards b4 the hand is over : I side-stepped the question with good reason - I never had sufficient facts to hand to make a proper judgement, so I decided the best course of action was to say nothing. A Hand-History was requested, but never materialised. The fact is, we don't KNOW if the speech-play was improper or not on the evidence we have before us. The Rules on speech-play can be quite complex, because the dynamics can vary so. Heads-Up, it's completely normal (though not something I would do) to confuse your oppo with speech-play. I gave some very good advice though (well I thought it was good advice!) about speech play. I said that no poker player should EVER listen to what another player says in a hand. And if they follow that advice, speech play is never going to be a problem, is it? Really, the whole thing got a bit out of hand, & lost perspective.

one of the primary rules of poker--that is to say within the etiquette of the game is--

NOT making statements or taking action that could unfairly influence the course of play, whether or not the offender is involved in the pot.

bed for me now-- to the batcave

I'd be very shocked if SKY said this was a breach of rules and would pursue anyone that does this.

It would be completly shocking to me if they say this is not accepted. Speech is very much a part of poker, it always has been, and always will be.

proof to this ; off the top of my head, watch the 2006 wsop main event, or series four of high stakes poker.

Im refering to 'speech play' that you're berating.

I've seen many televised tournaments, and cash games where a played will announce exactly what he is, you can this on the evidence i provided, the WSOP 2006 main event, and series four of high stakes poker. Jamie Gold, and Sam Farha, use this kind of speech play a great deal.

You should look for a very good article by Daniel Negranu on why banning a players right to show his two hole cards in poker while heads up, and still in play is an absolutely absurd idea.

As this is of course virtually idetical to the speech play in announcing your two cards that you are refering to.

When you post on a open forum like this, you really should be more prepared to listen, and except peoples views, and opinions.

I think Sky need to post their opinion on this. The views are clearly split, therefor clarification is needed. I just hope its not the stupid decision i fear.
