Thurs 24th March is a biggie on the channel. It’s the £15,000 guaranteed Sky Sports Bounty Hunter, it will be simulcast on Sky Sports 4 and here’s the line-up…
Yes, joining Tikay and I, live on air for 4 hours of poker analysis, will be none other than former bookmaker turned poker-pro, Irish Open winner, columnist, media personality and big player staker- Neil ‘Bad Beat’ Channing!Anyone who's listened to Neil do commentary on various poker shows (including being my co-host on Channel 4’s Late Night Poker earlier this year) will know they’re in for a treat on Thursday. Not only is Neil a very intelligent and eloquent analyst of the game, but he’s also very funny and will surely give Tikay some aggro too! Here’s the blurb on Neil from the Hendon Mob site which I think sets the scene on the man nicely: “There's been a lot of talk about Neil "Bad Beat" Channing recently, although it must be said it's Neil himself who has done most of the talking.
2008 was an annus **** amazingus for the likeable Londoner, when Neil was transformed from tournament donator to champion.
He absolutely cleaned up. There were signs that he had upped his game in 2007 that he had finally worked out how to play tournaments with a semi final appearance at the Poker Million and several impressive finishes in EPT, UKPT and GCBPT events. But, it was his win at the Irish Open worth well over $1 million which signalled that tight/passive wasn't the way forward against the young tyros. He went on to anchor the British teams victory in the Nations Cup and cash an incredible 7 times at the WSOP. Other impressive results meant Neil was right there with every chance until the years end in the "European Player of Year" race.
A final word of advice. There are two places you wouldn't want to be trapped with Neil. Firstly, you don't want him on your left in a poker tournament. He will severely damage your stack. Secondly, you wouldn't want to be trapped in a lift with him. He would severely damage your eardrums.” Neil is going to be the perfect candidiate for your email and forum post questions on the game, as he'll never be short of an answer! So for an evening with Channing, Kendall and Orford talking poker, poker, poker you know what to do: find 865 or hit the stream on the homepage this Thursday night at 8!This is the official show thread and I've started it early so you've got plenty of opportunities to get in your questions to Neil. Post away below!
Due to being in the studio recording lots of our exciting new show Sky Poker School this week I won't be running my weekly TSP Classic competition on Tuesday night.
So, instead, I'm going to give my free entry to a TSP Classic of your choice to the person who, in my opinion, posts the best (i.e. most original, interesting, thought-provoking or entertaining) question to Neil Channing on this thread.
The question must be posted BEFORE the show starts to be eligible to win and not only will I announce the winner right at the very top of the show at 8 o'clock on Thursday but I'll start the whole broadcast by putting the winner's question to Neil.
Based on the quality posts I've seen on this forum in recent weeks and knowing the active community members as I do, I have no doubts that you guys will come up with some pearlers.

In one interview he said that he probably would have ended up a trader or a bookie if he wasn't a poker player. If he could choose anything to be (job wise), what would he be and why?

Blandy's got the idea. Nice one Dave. I'll put it to him.
Obviously though, as a Sky Poker employee, you are NOT eligible to win the prize! FYL
With the increase in on-line poker sites (including his own and Sky of course) in recent years, how does he see the market for choice in say ten years time?
In his honest opinion, will there be more, or less, on line sites out there and does he think 'outside' factors such as changes in on line gaming laws and/or government involvement (for example tax etc) will affect the number available?

It was alleged that Neil bet £500 on himself to with the Irish Open at 100/1 in 2008. At what point / how short would the odds had to have been for him to not bet on himself? 66/1, 50/1, 33/1 or lower?
Another question: Has there ever been a time when he got his chunk of change from someone he staked and thought 'ouch, that's a LOT of money I am taking from this guy'?
hi guys. a question for neil, and maybe the old codger as well,.... if you were the 'poker god' for one day what changes would you enact to the whole poker scene? obviously you winning everything on the river doesn't count really looking foreward to the show. laurie/lozgo
As you seem to be getting well known for staking players - Do strangers approach you? What do you base your decision on? For example Do you ever get ppl writing to you asking to stake them based on their Sharkscope stats and what would their stats have do be for you to even consider it, if at all?
On a lighter note I,m into Coach Trip at the moment - Whats your favourite TV programme?
Cheers MP (Paul Robinson - I,m on your friends list on facebook)
Out of all the televised poker shows what is Neil's favourite to be on?
I have always thought the "The Big Game" was the most entertaining to watch and Neil seems to have an unnatural ability to stay alert during this epic show which must be an advantage for him.
Really looking forward to this one as Neil has always been my favourite poker pro.
I'd like to ask Mr Channing how he feels about his nickname.
I think out of all the poker nicknames Badbeat sums up Neil's "hard spun deliberately down trodden" persona to an absolute tee.
Can he recall the day he was first linked to the name, how he felt about it....and how many minutes it took him to think "**** yeah I can really play up to that"

And has he ever felt intimidated by a player at a table?
