Lol Dale I think this time he is serious the other 200 times were just a build up Comon Sporny you know we love you and the pleasure you get of knocking me out you realy want to give that up!
As some of you know I have been on a very bad run since just before Blackpool. I have tried to look at lots of differnt angels hence some of my earlier postings. I know that my good hands were losing more then winning however I had to look at that as only part of the problem.
Poker like anything else in life the hardest thing to do is look for your weakness and tackle them. My weakness was in a few areas.
1. I am suffering with 2 long term cronich pain conditions
2. I do credit other players with too much intelagence
3. I know I am good enough to win
4 Running bad
So this is what I did...
1. It has taken me a long time to come to terms with the fact I am only 41 years old and not capable of doing a full days work. Now I was looking this all wrong as I have always been the type of person to do things and forgot some very important things. I did set up our art gallery 8 yrs ago its still there and running when most are not and I am still leading the business and making decisions for out future. Also what I was missing is I can make money at poker so this is just another excting chapter on my long and proud to say very sucessful CV.
The pain I have been suffering I had also forgot why I am here in the first place. I started playing poker as a distraction to my health my wife even remined me my first big win (over 1K) was years ago and eariler that day I had had a lumbar puncture! So I have refocused my mind and that is working wonders.
2. That was easier to deal with I am not giving a unkown player any judgment so will only start to even looking at a bluff when I have a realy good angel on how they play but more importantly how clever they play.
3. Big one to get through, the trouble is I have always been in jobs that are very high pressure and usually I over acheive and of course got the rewards. The problem is poker does not use quite the same rules as though there is luck in any job ie you close that big contract but if he wasnt also a west ham fan would he of signed? In poker the luck factor is such a common factor of course it makes it hard when the worst player wins but I have always belived in you make you own luck and we do that in poker as well.
So I have now got used to the fact yes I am good enough to win but winning is a long race so if I cash x amount 1 week and nothing for 2 months its the long term profit will show if I am good enough to win so I am not even worring about it (well still trying and working on that one lol)
4. Running bad it does happen and could even last for a year I have heard some pros say on interviews so not much more to say apart from I just slaped myself with a wet fish and told myself stop from over analysing it, it happens no reason just roll with it.
I thought I would share my thoughts for all those stuck in a poker bad run in hope you dont take as long as I did to stop it lol I know last night was only 1 result however that did stop a bad run as far as I am concerned
Hi Jason. I find it interesting that someone who has been quite successful in life can have so many self doubts. I'm not just referring to this post but what you said to me at Blackpool as well. The way you have dealt with 2 serious medical conditions is not a weakness, that is a strength! I have nothing but admiration for the way you coped with it. Dealing with the fact that you can no longer do an 8 or 10 day is hard at first, as I found out when I was crippled with Rheumatoid Arthritis at 50. Within 3 months of first showing symptoms I could no longer work, and although with medication my condition has much improved I am still unable to work. I'm thankful that my illness is not a killer, it just makes things more difficult.
With regards to your poker have you thought about having someone to look over hand histories with you or even thought about poker coaching along the lines that JockBMW did? I think it's an obvious route to go down especially when there is so much at stake.
BTW I was interested to see that you run an art gallery. I did an Open University course a couple of years ago called Understanding The Arts and although only part of it involved "ART" itself I discovered a new interest in art. I have invested in a couple of paintings and visited Manchester Art Gallery a couple of times. Any chance of a job in yours? lol
WD kirb kiwini and steel nice cashes.Hi mrb kind of think dagg summed it up in a nutshell there.Poker is about skill, reading your opponents, and a little luck now and again. What,i think, hepled the young guys come through the game is technical ability but with so much confidence.Confidence plays so much of what we do in life as of course the poker world. That is of course when we're running bad we tend to doubt our own abillity. You've achevied alot in life and in your short poker life.We all have good times and bad times in life as well as poker. We just need to see crack on if we get knocked to a one outer and sign into another tourney. With life it's just the same,we can't do this anymore then we'll do something else.Hope you understand what i'm trying to say mrb,i'm not very good with words, that's why i said dagg has it in a nutshell. This is just my way of saying gl mrb.
taking a break from the tables for a few weeks no matter what i do at the minute i seem to get outdrawn out flopped or simply donk called and go on to lose had probably my worst couple of weeks at the tables other than my qualification to the SPT and its now starting to take its toll on my bankroll, my confidence and my self belief. i think the only option for me is to take some time away befor i go on tilt with frustration and anger at some of the appaling calls i have lost to over the last few weeks. i agree with most that having poor players at the tables should be profitable in the long run however i can not seem to break this cycle of gettin beaten on the river...i even made a spreadsheet to log flips and shoves and was losing around 8 out of 10 all in hands on the river to backdoor flushes or gutshots and this is just not normal. i may play the occasional small tournement over the next few weeks but they will be few and far between. good luck at the tables guys and ill speak to you all soon chris
