This is none of my business so this is all I'm going to say on the matter.

I don't think there was any need for this to be dealt with publicly on Sky Forums like this. This could, and should have been dealt with off the forums and on the 51er page imo.

Public floggings like this serve no useful purpose, other to get people riled up.  Peacock made a mistake in comparison & literation, apologised and retracted.

Falling out with each other after the fact also seems pretty pointless. Is it not probably time for all concerned to draw a line under this and move on?

In Response to Re: Unacceptable Behaviour : Stein: This was not a kangaroo court as you call it. If you had taken the opportunity to frequent the team51 FB page you would have seen the reaction of all the team members on there, to the remarks made. The opinion of all team members was that the remarks had crossed the line and it was an embarrassment to the team as a whole. If you wish to leave team51 as a protest to the decision the rest of the team took, then your resignation is accepted without hesitation. There are sky members with children and relatives who have downs syndrome etc and as team51 captain I could never justify to them, having a member who uses such derogatory language to compare poker players to the disabled, handicapped and less fortunate members of society.   Scotty: As a member of Team Sky Poker you think we have gone too far because we as a team of players find the comparison of bad poker players to the mentally handicapped unacceptable. I would be interested to know just what kind of remarks you do find unacceptable. As the current ''face of Sky'' I find your involvement intriguing.

Intriguing?  I'm simply stating my view, and see no reason why my place in TSP should be brought up in this...its not like I'm being offensive or agreeing with the comments made.

I also understand why you and your team took the line that you chose to take.

FWIW the term used, and other similar terms/phrases, is something that I would not be shocked by and is also something that I would not associate with the disabled/handicapped. Its one of those words, that to me at least, has a dual meaning and in a poker related context it wouldn't even enter my head as to it being an offensive term for a certain disability.

It is not a term I would use myself however.

Maybe I'm too de-sensitised to certain language tho so maybe I can't appreciate how shocking the comments made may have been to some people.  Growing up with the internet has kind of made me pretty unshockable tbf.

    Well that's a different tack.

Did you actually read the posts in question? - do you know the terms used?

You wouldn't be shocked by those terms used? What if you were the parent of a Downs Syndrome child - would you still be de-sensitised?

Elsa seemed to be interested as to why I became involved in this issue, and this is the reason.  If this hadn't been put on GPC I wouldn't have even known about the entire episode....

Putting it on GPC broadcast it to a far, far wider audience than those who saw the original thread.

This had been going on since the morning. We did not name the player. We made a statement because as a team we will not be associated by a member speaking like that. We wanted to distance the team from it publicly.

I didn't see the posts first hand but have been told of the terms used.

What if you were the parent of a Downs Syndrome child - would you still be de-sensitised?

Using this kind of tactic is far out of line and is something that is pretty terrible.  Using these kind of emotional blackmail-esq scenarios to try and completley disrigard my own opinion of the matter.

    Thats me done here now.

It takes a low person to say awful things, it sure takes a bigger man to realize that they have done wrong and apologise.........but it takes even a bigger man to accept that apology...a 24 yr old dont need to tell you to be that bigger man!

No because i dont go in your neck of the woods anymore.

Regardless it has been summarised enough here to make my own judgement, obviously i dont condone using the word 'downs' or anything along that lines. But the principle is he has seen the errors in his way and apologised, like i said if you feel the need to eject him from your team so be it.

This has gone OTT as it is IMO this should have been dealt in house or by pm's, bringing up in GPC and to the general eye just silly

That is not emotional blackmail. You made the statement about being de-sensitized to these kind of remarks - that is not an excuse for acceptance. Deflecting it back to me as being out of line is not on. There are no circumstances where it is acceptable!

You know nothing about the terms used. That is obvious. This went on for many hours yesterday and should have been deleted at an early stage. The team were implicated and felt that they needed to distance themselves from the remarks, publicly.

It seems that all the people who are ''outraged'' didn't see the thread, have little or no idea about the timescale involved or the fact that many hours passed without an apology. If you find that acceptable behaviour why not sign him up?

+1 for kicking him out of the team, his comments were very bad and you can't have that reflecting on TEAM51

-1 For broadcasting the whole episode on the forum and basically public flogging the guy for a comment, which was very bad but may or may not be his own personal belief. Everyone vents and says things that they don't honestly feel in there heart.

    +1 for the apology

someone should just end the thread and draw a massive line underneath it

Is this a bad time to ask if anyone wants to buy...

'I love the Sky poker Community' window stickers  ?

Dealing with it in house would of been the correct choice here. Having it splashed over the Forum is akin to a witch hunt. The defendant has apologised and Team 51 has taken action. Any further action needed would be taken by Sky Poker.

The posts were unacceptable but if you search the Forums, other posters have used similar phrases/words and no action taken there.

This thread seems to be going off on a tangent now and should be closed IMHO.

I agree with Scotty and others who have expressed their concerns about this thread.

I saw the original thread in question and from memory it did not personally attack anyone and was only posted in Area 51.

Ironically, I have seen the same level of deregoratory / offensive language in the past from posters who are now members of the very team who are condemming Peacock.

That's the nature of internet forums - there is far worse posted accross sites aimed at all age groups every day. What Scotty said about how language is used now and the rate it is evolving is very true - window licker and similar* terms are widely used on forums now by people who have no idea about it's connotation to any disability and simply know it to mean "stupid".

I think the team51 captain is being very naive in stating that they "did not name" the offender on this thread. Did he really think it would not come out? This thread being posted in GPC is more callous and vindictive than what Peacock did imo. He did not personally attack anyone but has been singled out for a public hanging.

*There is a thread called "freeroll crayon eaters" which is still actively going in BB&V and no one has batted an eyelid.

Would you be so kind as to point these out to me?

What relevance has that got to his forum?

The remarks were made wearing the 51 team shirt and as such we as a team wished to distance ourselves - publicly.

Really? We didn't call him names, we didn't liken him to any unfortunate, and we didn't ridicule him. We simply made a statement that a member had been excluded from the team because we felt that his behaviour was unacceptable to the team as a whole. As a team we have no control over what any member says or does, we have no means of censorship, we can however choose whether we want him in the team or not. We also have a right to publicly distance ourselves from these kind of remarks - we exorcised that right. If you don't like that so be it.

A lot of people (most of whom never even saw the thread in question) have been very critical of the decision to post it on the forum. The general consensus in the team is that we did the right thing.

Personally i think we should just all move on before this starts to turn into the NVG on 2 plus 2.

i read the original post, it was very offensive, not only did he insult DS sufferers he also told another member that he should get a rope..find a tree and (well basically hang himself).

A decision has been made by our team, Toby or Alan hasn't publicly humiliated the offender or said any names in GPC.

So lets move on and play poker :) simples.
