A request for Tony or anybody else at Sky Poker.

(my forum PMs don't work, that's why I'm asking on this thread)

Community member DEL560 is the winner of of my free competition in the £51 to £1051 thread. Therefore can you please issue him with a £22 tournament token and charge that sum to my Sky Bet account. You have my full authority to do this.

He has also won a charity donation which I will arrange personally.

    Thank-you

OK Gary, I think it is sorted. Here's the deal.

For DEL560, INSTEAD of a £22 Tournament Token, Sky Poker will deposit £22 cash into his account, to do with whatever he wishes. However, you MUST CONSENT to this. If you do, it'll be sorted that way.

Also, the £22 will NOT be deducted from your Account - Sky Poker will donate it, by way of a "thank you" to you for all your Community work, most especially the Results Thread on which you invest so much time.

Can you please confirm that both these are acceptable to you?

Finally, we have been looking for the right moment to do something like this for you for some time, as thanks for your work on the Community, especially that amazingly popular & enduring Results Thread, & this is an ideal opportunity.

So, Sky Poker will donate to you (NOT transferable) one free Main Event Seat, (a REGULAR Main Event, not a Monthly Roller or whatever!) any night of the week to suit you. What night & date would you like this for? Let me know & I will get it sorted for you pronto-ish.

Wow, thank-you very much! This is very generous of yourself and 'the suits'.

Yes, you have my full consent.

Could you please enter me in the 8-00pm Bounty Hunter on Saturday 22nd September (NOT this Saturday the 15th, I'm away on a long weekend and unable to play!)

    Hi Tikay

Hoping you are well. Just thanking you for your backing on a post i wrote to Pat_Walshe about a coupleof things in a really interesting diary. I just wanted him to know that some people may not be happy with a ouple of situations and that in time, he may see this too. Life's is a matter of balance and maturity. he's very young and we all learn as we go along. As Carlo would say "It's  never ending game".
He replied to me and has taken it in good heart, i'm pleased to say.
I think i may only have written it after the DTD night when we had the one peson there who cannot take a beat. I posted inviting him to a private chat but i'm not hopeful. I was even prepared to give him "wiggle room" Tikay.................now where did i hear that phrase?

Hope to meet you one day at an SPT.
DTD going so well with THS and its really heightened my enjoyment of playing. I even won the overall monthly for lowest average score...chuffed to bits. Goal for this month is now to make more FT's (i don't play cash) and improve my HU play by playing HU shuffle.
Any thoughts on how i should go about improving more after 15 months. Good training sie worth it or consider training course? Is it worth upping my entry stakes to T's ? (ATM max is £5.75) or is satellliting and DYMing the way to go. I'm not looking to cash big ...only to improve my play. i played the Roller as a free prize the other week and it was a different strategy with lots more three and four betting.  I wasn't sure where i was a t times especially with Mattbates on my LHS. I could see that i had so much more to learn. i'm willing to put the effort in
but unsure full how to go about it.
Any thoughts gratefully received Tikay though the post was originally to say "Ta very much!" as us scousers say!!!!

    Hi Steve,

Hope ya don't think I'm jumping the gun and barging in but  always like to give advice where I can.

One great way to improve is to discuss hands with other players, a great place to do this is on our THS Facebook page, especially seen as we have some of the best MTTers on the site like Wacko and Sikas, I've messaged them before for advice and they've always been helpful.

To be honest, I don't think moving up stakes to improve your game is a great idea, I don't know your game that well but 90%+ of us have so many leaks and ways to improve our game that I'm however good you're doing in £5.75 MTTs, I'm sure you could do better. And to be honest £5.75s are a decent size considering how big the variance is in MTTs.

If you want some practice etc, I'd concentrate on playing more deepstacks where there's much more room for play, and chance for you to try out different strategies. Maybe it's just me, but I can play much better when the money makes less of a difference to me, for instance of the bubble of a £2 deepstack, I will play the way you should play, being aggressive and trying to hoover up chips from tight players trying to catch, but I know as much as it's the way I should play, if it was the bubble of a £50 MTT then I would play incorrectly and tighten up, so make sure it's a level you can play completely without out fear, because sometimes in MTTs you gotta be fearless.

    Thanks a lot Lambert
I appreciate the advice. I certainly wasn't going to up stakes to make money. that's for sure as i'm not doing particularly well where i am now!!! I just enjoy the cameraderie, banter and chance to be part of a team and have a laugh. I agree that the deep stacks have more room for play too. I may try to sat into the higher tournaments to get used to the surroundings, as it were.
I've often thought that a good way would be to watch over the shoulder as a good player was playing in a sky tournament and have them verbalise why they bet, raise, reraise whatever and what they are watching out for as they play particular hands. It's too easy to make mistakes poker-wise but still win pots....it will undermine your own game and become a leak. Seems like a good idea for SKY to try out...hint, hint Tikay...i'm waiting...ready for action!!! LOL
PS i would have thought there's a way through Skype or something. ... mind i'm not a computer wizz.

    Hi Pat.

The date for SPT Dublin will be announced very soon. It has been set, & agreed, we just need to hold off the announcement for a wee while.

Have I played in Dublin before? Yes, many, many times.

I first played in Dublin at the Merrion Club, in Merrion Square, which is - was - smack next door to the HQ of the Irish Football Association. It has been closed down now for some years, but it was quite a place. It was really a 5 storey house, & the Tourneys would be on 5 different floors at once. I met some right characters there, & it was where I first mjet Roy Brindley. One of the Floor Managers was a lady called Mags, who was later to become Roy's wife. Roy is not much respected by "the kidz", but he was always very polite & kind to me, Mags & Roy looked after me wonderfully on a poker cruise back in 2004 or 5, when I was on my own.

SO many characters in that place, wow. I played poker there with the darts bloke, Phil Taylor, & there were often "faces" in attendance.

I got in a little trouble with the Management, though, as I was not happy with what might happen in the event of a serious fire. The upper-floor fire escapes were non-existent, & those on the top floor would not have stood a chance of escaping. Eventually I nearly got banned for making that point repeatedly, but I had no regrets, the place was a death-trap, so I stopped playing there. It was 100% compliant with Irish Fire Regs at the time though, but they were very lax.

Barely 200 yards away, just round the corner, is the Fitzwilliam Club, where I played many times, & I also Hosted 5 or 6 Events there for APAT & an Online Poker site. It used to be a Church, & was converted into a cardroom. They boasted that they never closed, they were a 24/7 operation.

I got to know a right character there. He was in his seventies, & wore a cheesecutter cap & his Sunday-best suit. He had his "own" Blackjack Table (they reserved it for him), & would play 3 or 4 boxes at a time, his standard bet on each was €500, so he was betting €2,000 per hand.....!

I was curious where he got his money from - he would often lose or win €100,000 per session, but he looked to be a regular working guy.

It turned out he was a pig-farmer, of all things, & back then he was reaping a fortune in EEC subsidies for his pig-farm, then doing the lot on Blackjack!

I played a lot at City West, too, which is just a giant & soul-less Hotel, & the Tourneys were held in the Conference Rooms. Had a golf course attached to it, & I played many rounds there with the likes of Colclough, Shipley, Paul "Dotcom" Phillips & others.

The Burlington was another venue. Long story behind that. It had been sold for a fortune for re-development - it was in a posh part of town - the idea was to build posh apartments. However, Planning Permission was refused, so they re-opened the Hotel, hoping the P-P would come through in a few years. As the plan was to demolish it, they never maintained it, & the roof leaked like a sieve. When it rained, water would cascade through the ceilings, right down to the Ground Floor. It was a 5 storey hotel!

My favourite venue was the Sporting Emporium, owned at one time - still is, maybe - by none other than Dermot Desmond, who is a zillionaire.

He purchased London City Airport for £23 million & sold it 8 years later for £650 million! He owns BETDAQ, too, & I believe he is the majority shareholder in Celtic Football Club. He rubs shoulders with Irish politicians - best not discuss that too much, as it got a bit grubby - & is partners in various ventures with legendary punter J P McManus & John Magnier, the latter owns a lump of the near Triple Crown "wonderhorse" Camelot. (Oddly, it was Dermot who had purchased the Burlington Hotel, & who owned almost all the property, including The Merrion Card Club, in Merrion Square).

It's a grand club, very smart & sauve, the Sporting Emporium, with a bookmakers on the 2nd floor, a casino on the 3rd floor, & the Cardroom on the 4th floor, as I recall. To gain entrance, you had to be fingerprinted (I kid you not!), the only Casino where that has ever happened to me.

So many Dublin stories I could tell, & have some wonderful memories of poker in Dublin. I made the Final of a €300 Charity Event there once, I finished 8th or something, and it was won by one-time WSOP Main Event World Champion Noel Furlong, who is still a good friend to this day, with Norman Pace's missus, Bev, a very fine player, in 2nd.

    I'm rambling, sorry.

See you there next year, God willing.

    Hi Tony,
    Hope you are well.
I've just seen the SPT line up, and i am a little surprised to see the broadway on the list. When we were there previously, it was very tight, with players sat against pillars for long periods. Has the casino changed since then.
Also, is there a similar range of events this year. ie bounty hunters, 1 and 2 day events. Are there any surprises like a HORSE event.
I look forward to seeing you in the future, if not before, then in newcastle.

    Hi Colin,

The Broadway Card Room has been expanded since we last visited it, we would not have returned otherwise. I agree, it was dreadfully squeezed last time.

There will be a mix of Events & Buy-Ins in SPT '13. It will not include any HORSE, though, not enoigh people play these, sadly

Hope you & yours are well, Colin.

PS - Nice result yesterday! 2-0......
