I do help people how to play poker, as I find it rewarding but if you help someone to learn the game they are a tougher opponent hence you dont make as much. Forums is one of the reasons why the game has got tougher over the years and its harder to make money. Not trying to be argumentative but surly if players are more knowledgable you cant make as much? What you rather have someone doing their brains and then getting fed up of doing it every week and having to get the card out and giving up poker
Or someone becoming somewhat competent but still being a value in the game but rather than having to get the card out every week they have some success/sustainability...and maybe when you are not playing/away from the tables they will then beat weaker opponents which them rolls them to then lose to you at a later date.
As I said...shortsighter...think long term jus like the recent rake changes discussion but ofc some people only think about what they can earn week by week or month by month rather than thinking oh we want Sky Poker to become an even bigger success and more importantly sustainable and having an influx of new money every day and still be here in 5/10 years

Exactly, do you think people with money to start off with are happy about consistently losing to a reg. Most people who are rich (and im talking about those who play at higher stakes) have a competitive streak about them, its how they made their money in the first place.
Poker should not be seen as a free lunch, like anything in life you have to work at it. When the competition steps their game up you have to do the same.

Seriously tho, I see why Beane calls AJS selfish alot now. Obviously, playing poker professionally means you have to make as much money as possible, i see that, but there is no need to be completely heartless.

This is me in a nutsuhell, very rarely deposit but just not got the game to become half decent,i tic along, have winning streaks have losing streaks, but i know im not that good, As for tapping the tank,i used to call people fish alot but then i realised i was being hypocritical :)also the forum helped me chill abit because i didnt no about variance and i,d blame others bad play now it hardly bothers me. AJS is better off not posting at all if this is how he feels about others helping each other, stick to grinding and making easy money.
A poker forum teaches people not to spend money on poker and take it as a serious endeavour not a game of fun. If people stop spending money on poker and take it seriously there is no site.
When I here people talking about poker its like they are a living in a fantasy land where everyone wins. Listen to channel 865 they give the impression that everones a winner.
The reality of it is for you to BREAK EVEN there is a lot of people losing a lot of money.
If everyone followed the forums advice in just bankroll management the site would be dead within weeks.
People who make money out of poker be it working for sky or pros. Do so from people spending a lot of money.
Whenever I write something on here I put it how it is. People might not like hearing that this site, the employees wages, the pros winnings. All come from a lot of people spending a lot of money. In a minority of cases spending money they cant afford. This is the reality.

oh and why would that be AJS. should we go on and say 'oh actually 80pc of you are gonna do your brains, 10pc of you will breakeven and the rest of you will live off the profits/rakebacl'
If everyone followed the forums advice in just bankroll management the site would be dead within weeks.
Yes but some players have good BRM/budget managment can GOOD for the games. You need a mix of pros/grinders/casual winning players/casual breakeven players/casual losing players and then ofc the degens who just do the lot at every opportunity.
For instance the games wouldn't ever run if everyone used the same kind of horrific table selection/sitting out when the value has left/got stacked and just waiting for them to reload etc.
I don't think you really understand why having the channel is so great for the site and the advice it gives means that Sky is better placed than ANY UK poker room to continue growing.

What, the TV channel?. Maybe it attracts more players but I dont think the TV show is good for poker in the long term. Everywhere now in poker, these "pros", who decide they can make more money teaching people how to play. They realise there is no longer much money actually player poker....can only hurt the game in the long term.
I say if you had all the answers, you would keep them to yourself.
In reference to BRM, you can have a video podcast broadcast directly to every poker player's brain on a daily basis detailing the importance of BRM, it still won't change much. Until you change basic human nature people will always chase money, play too high and risk it all. That's the link between gamblers and poker.
I also think it is vastly over rated how many players read forums and again even more over rated how much information people who do read them take out of them. There's a gigantic difference between posting 'you should have folded pre' and applying it to your own game.
It's also being underestimated how the USP of Skypoker is connected to the historical roots of poker in this Country. Poker started in card schools, a small community who would play, banter and in some cases educate each other. That's why it is so appealing and why this is one of the few sites actually growing.
As far as the OP goes, people say stuff. They shouldn't, but they are people. Move on.
Have to say kudos to AJS for his honesty. If I was a pro I think I'd probably shre his view tbh. Not much room for altruism in a game where your aim is to take people's money of them.
And isn't it telling that very few of the sites top players ever post in the clinic? Why would they want to improve anyone's game? Why would they want to reveal their thought process? I'd maybe even be tempted to post mis-information.
I see where RyRy's coming from too though. Not a black and white case IMHO.
In Response to Re: Tapping the tank and educating in the chat box : Bandwagon He might be, but why shouldn't he be? He's trying to earn a living, why should he care about the long term health of the site or poker in general? If everyone did as he's suggesting (never gonna happen) and all strategy forums died completely, games would be easier, and he'd make more money. The only reason he might wanna give a stuff* about the long term health of online poker is if he plans to raise his ferrets as poker players Posted by DOHHHHHHH
Not on the bandwagon really, just can see there point more
lol u have taught and even done long bit about nl4 to help people who play lower down so obv u share the same view otherwise u wouldnt post advice or talk to worse players online

Tons of money in poker. The people who say there isn't are usually regs who have turned into long term losing/break even players and have decided their sudden decline in fortunes must have a reason outside of their own game.
Work hard=make money. Do you work hard and not make money? In that case work harder.

As always a well reasoned point articulated in a way that is easy to understand. You should be on TV with your skills. Oh, wait, you already are!.lol. Great post mate. Besrt wishes. Shaun the Villa fan in Bham

I did this because I enjoy it, I don't even care about what influence it has on the site/games. Never even thought about it tbh.
Leaving myself open for the inevitable rubz, but comparing me to him is just 'lol' anyway, the gulf in skill/volume/level/bankroll/profit/proffessionalism is huge.
This is partly (although not solely) down to his 'selfish' attitude.
You can't actually argue that what he's saying is 'wrong'. Unless you mean morally or w/e.
In which case, again, why should he care wat ppl think?

There may be still some money in poker, but I dont think anyone can argue against the fact that there isnt near as much as there once was. So yes, some regs may decide they are better off teaching others how to be "regs".

I don't think it's a question of the amount of money. I will accept your point that there is less money in poker since Black Friday purely down to the U.S. blackout.
Rather than the amount of money in poker what I actually think is the point is it takes more work to become a winning player now. In the good old days all you needed was the most rudimentary knowledge and half a level of thinking to become a regular winner. A lot of regs from those days are annoyed with themselves that they didn't take advantage when they had the chance (myself included).
It takes a lot more graft now but there is still an unbelievable amount of money to be won. It just isn't as easy as it used to be.
Players in the past never got any info, I certainly didn't when I started playing in 2004/5, it was a case of learning the hard way and I had a maxed out credit card to show for it. From that point of view I agree with AJS, why when you're trying to win money do you help the people you're trying to win the money off?
I can understand SKY wanting everyone to improve as they aren't interested who wins as long as people play and the rake keeps coming in, it's in their interest that players are better and don't go broke.
Personally, I do try to help people now and then as the info I give is pretty basic and people getting better doesn't effect me that much, I'm not a pro and I only play small stakes, which I can beat.
If I was a pro and had mouths to feed with the winnings I might have an opinion like AJS.
