Looking at this again if your playing DYM then you need to play £22 ones x8tables - 8 hours a day on average Even if your a break even player, you can do ok with rakeback ) should be about 50,000 c4p 4 x £11 DYM = 15,000 c4p £450 - you would need to be a winner at about 8-10% roi

the above is all well and good but if this is the only aim then surely after a few months it is just like another job.

I have been there and grinding away for cakeback day after day night after night is not fun at all.

Yeah it doesn't look like fun does it ) Who said grinding poker was fun

Just the thought of grinding DYM 8 hours a day - makes me depressed )

Seriously though if you even think about turning pro, then it becomes your job.
Apart from the good time MTT joints, it's just about the grind aint it.

Stuck all alone grinding away for hours and hours - makes me feel very glad that this is just a hobby for me )

Unless you have a serious binkage all pro's grind - don't they ?
Some might do it in las vegas and others in there bedrooms - but it's still a grind right ?

Yeah lets travel the world and sit in a casino for 10 hours ) hardly the booom times glitz and all them hollywood girls throwing themselfs at you is it !

In Response to Re: Going Pro [Bearlyther's Diary] : Also this, im well tilting at the mo mainly coz im trying to get to priority (be it that's its my first full month at sky), so multi tabling(as much time i can squeeze in) after doing 10hour shift is a killer, but at least i know i get paid at the end of the month. Sikas can i ask how many tables do you play? do you comfortably make to priority? (im on on 1kpoints at the mo) on target playing nl50, and i hope to rack up a lot this weekend! but i cant not get into priority this month, i think i should make it, bar i dont skip to many days not playing

    i normally play 7-10 tables

A £11 DYM professional poker player who deposited £50 6 weeks ago, £50!!!!.....funny stuff.

I think its wise to not even consider playing poker for a career until you have a £1 million bankroll and can crush Phil Ivey.

I don't think it was bad advice. The OP can afford to be more aggro with his roll as he doesn't ahve high living expenses.

If the OP doesn't care at all about losing the 2k in a worst case scenario then its fine.

I am naturally very conservative with my BR so will always advise similar but I understand that some people thrive when taking shots.

Some very good advice, concur with everybody

Look at these two tips from seasoned pros

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BuyQEpllmY

As mentioned earlier top tip by Greg Raymer (can't find link)

Been thinking about this and I scoped you, just because I can.
DYM are good for you, MTT look like one big bink

I would suggest taking that £500, and improving your set up so you can 8-10 multi table

Carry on as you are for the next 6 months playing part time and see how you sit in 3-6 months.
See how much your peeling off each month as profit and rakeback, look at how many hours your playing and work out that if you extend you playing time - just how plausible playing full time would be

Important for you that you find a game/level that you can beat over the long term
Also it's good to be able to fund your MTT buy ins with cash/sng winnings )

good luck - all the best

I,d just say - whats the rush? Your going along quite nicelely -

It seems you live at home with parents which until you move or get kicked out you may not realise how good you,ve got it.

As Scotty pointed out the hours which are best for playing (nights and weekends) and someone else pointed out how boring it can get and you don,t want to be stuck on your laptop 24/7. You wil burn yourself out

In your position i,d probably up my volume , try a higher stake of DYM,s for at least a few months and if uve still got the hunger for it then talk to others who have gone pro before deciding

    GL with the thread

Thanks for your advise everyone i really appreciate it.  I reliase this is high risk but i have the hunger and desire to succeed.  Basically for the last 2 years all i do is eat sleep and think about poker i think about it non stop and i mean that.  I lived in america last year and worked for Disney and 3 or 4 nights a week i would go to a 1/2 underground cashgame with a guy standing at the door with a gun as security for it! Basically if i go broke with the 2k i can always get a job but i believe i can succeed and failure is not an option for me.  I have relatively cheap living costs so if i went broke i would be able to deal with it.  Yes i won a big tournament last week and yes i was lucky and i know that isnt going to happen every week.  Dyms is were i am going to be able to grind a solid roll as i know mtts are very high varience.  With regards as to how this may impact my lifestyle this is not a problem as i love the game!  I plan on investing on a good poker set up my friend plays full time for a living since last september so he will be able to advise me on what monitors and so on i should get then i can increase and play more tables.

do u know what roi you can realistically achieve at £11 dym's? off the top of my head there is only 4 winning regs at ~£11 dym's that still turn a profit after rake, and have done so over a decent sample size

do u know how many points u can realistically achieve in a month and therefore how much C4P you will be getting?

Scotty, how is pokering bad for social life really?

Don't you make quite a lot more from poker than you would with a normal job?? So you can take more time off

Surely it's much better for a social life as you can choose when you play

just dont spend to much on the setup for now

as others have said just get a bigger monitor (look around you can get a decent one that fist your requirements for less than quoted)

seen plenty who have an awesome setup and can not really beat the game

Are you one of these 4 Shanxta? I'm intrigued to know who they are (I don't expect you to name names), I only have a suspicion who one of them is...
