Champion and Hartigan! I like it, sounds like a crime fighting duo...  As it is it's me Sarah Champion back in the hot seat and him James Hartigan fresh from Vegas - just as tikay touches down... coincidence?

So! with the movie maestro back we're running a quick film quiz for seats into Sunday's 1K Lucky Sevens tournament, we'll have details live from 7pm but in the meantime with the Euros in full flow and the Olympics imminent...

What, in your opinion, is the greatest Sports film of all time?  See 'Rocky' would probably be No.1 for me but then I'm a big fan of 'Caddyshack' and 'Happy Gilmore' as well, oh and since we're on comedy there's 'Dodgeball' as well, 'Cool Runnings'... the list is endless! *I can hear Hartigan's disdain from here* ;-) What gets your vote?

Back to the poker and we'll have live coverage of the TV timed tournament from 7pm 750 GTD 5.50 buy in, then from 8pm we're after your hand requests so if there's a hand you'd like to see analysed from a TV table post the hand ID below and we'll get that done! Poker School at 10pm Top of the Pots at 11pm then Sky Poker Highlights from 11pm with live coverage of the 12K Bounty Hunter

GL on the tables, tune in for tales from Vegas from 7!

    Hi Sarah
Yourself and " The Master ". 865 dream team imo.

What, in your opinion, is the greatest Sports film of all time ?
interesting question. as a genre sports films generally suck as the main drama of sport is the spectacle itself and therefore impossible to replicate effectively.
so perhaps sport films that are also comedy films might be the best of category here ?
if this is the case, then in my opinion,  people need to look no further than George Roy Hill's 1977 classic " Slap Shot " starring Paul Newman.
i would love to hear Mr. Hartigans summary of this film !
also i would be really grateful if James could say hi and give a wave to my Nan. She is his greatest fan and describes him as a, " handsome hound " often.  when i'm  at her house she'll only allow me to watch the 865 shows that James is on.
many thanks and good luck with the show !  it's going to be a classic.
p.s- more film reviews please James !!!!!

HI Guys, Have a good show.  Did James win or lose in Vegas?  I always enjoy the show when it's a "Film Nite" program even if his taste in movies is suspect sometimes. ;-)  In fact "Copland" has been the only film I've agreed with him in the last 6 months!
Sporting Film?  For me it's "Jerry Maguire".  I went to see this VERY reluctantly as Tom Cheese is not my most favourite actor but was pleasantly surprised.  I'd also be suprised if it's not in James' Top 10.  I was gonna say "Rounders" but for an activity to be called a sport you should have to "sweat"!  Oh wait a minute.......

p.s. Knowing how much James loves football ask him does he want updates tweeted??

The sports film, a genre populated by trite stories of individuals/teams overcoming the odds to win the game/title/championship/etc. usually in the last minute/with the last shot/with some debillitating injury/etc. etc.

No wonder Hollywood loves them so much, exactly the kind of predictable, "feel good", cack that it likes to wallow in.

Anyway, there's only one contender as far as I'm concerned, Raging Bull (1980) Scorsese's searing tale of boxing, domestic violence and one mans headlong plunge into the abyss. Was robbed of the Best Picture and Best Director Oscar by Ordinary People and Robert Redford, what a travesty.

    Hi all.

Hope the show goes well.  I don't know if it counts as a film but I love when they were kings.

I would love to hear James's view on the films Up and Under, Caddieshack 2 and the Goal series of films and their place in the history of great films.

I also want to wish everyone going to SPT Blackpool the best of british luck for you and see you there

raging bull is in a different league to other sports films

in that it stands on its own as a very very worthy contender as a top film in its own right

By the way, tonight's Sky Poker School topic is...

    Playing from under the gun.

We'd appreciate your thoughts, experiences and examples (i.e. Hand IDs).

Does UTG really mean that much in a six-max game? What's your opening range from this position? Do you consider it a good spot to bluff from?

not really now a year or so ago it held more strength but like anything that has become in vogue and now taking a bluff line from utg holds no more credence than from any other position in my opinion.

Hope you both have a great show,

May be not the best sports film Bagger Vance only because of the quote

"Golf is a game that cant be won, only played"

Let me add 'Rudy' to the movie discussion, definitely one of my favourites.

Also 'Pride of The Yankees', even though I hate the Yankees.

i wouldn't dispute the main thrust of your opinions.
personally i found David O. Russells' 2010 film " The Fighter " to be a boxing film i enjoyed to a greater extent than " Raging Bull ".
in honesty i have to confess to two biases in relation to this:
    1. i think there is more than a good case to be put for describing DeNiro as possibly one of the most over-rated actors ever. don't get me wrong i'm not saying he's bad. just over-rated.
    2. i thought that Christian Bales' portrayal of crack-addicted Dicky Eklund to be genuinely captivating.
i can't be certain but it appeared to me that a lot of Bales' inspiration seemed to have derived from Kerouacs'    depiction of Neal Cassady ( in various works ). no small coincidence as Lowell, Mass. where the film is set, is also the birthplace of Kerouac, most certainly one of my favourite writers.
i would find your views on the two points i've made most beneficial Mr. Hartigan.
