Perhaps the table software is too sensitive to higher-latency situations such as those that can occur on wireless or poor DSL connections. Just a thought based only on what I've read of people's problems and my own experience.

I have only had one single disconnection from this site since I joined in Jan 2009, and that was due to a power cut at my house!
I run a fully wired and extremely good quality DSL (which I've monitored and tweeked for reliability as well as speed).

I'm far from a computer expert but could I add that it might be an idea to look at your startup programmes. Quite a few programmes when you install them will automatically run when you turn on your computer. If your using Windows click the start menu and type in the box "msconfig.exe" without the quotes. Click on it then click startup and it will show you programmes that run at start up. You can then deselect the programmes you don't want to run. This may help and is just an idea.

In Response to Re: Goodbye sky poker from a dongle user it's really been a blast!! : Hopefully their parents in their old age because its the least we can do for the people who bought us into this world and dedicated their lives to giving us the best chance possible. There really is too much neglect and ignorance when it comes to the "Older generation" and I think your point highlights the fact that it should be the duty of the children to protect and support their parents as they become less able. I am glad that serious topics like this can be discussed and thank you for bringing it up.

Hi Frank. Sorry to hear you are having problems and I hope you don't mind me giving you my honest opinion......... Gaming online whilst using a Dongle for internet connection can be very hit and miss. Its ok for use if you want internet on the go, whilst on the train, bus, travelling etc.  As a gaming platform it is always going to be a bit cumbersome and whilst I appreciate that in the past you may well have been able to play using the dongle (probably not as fast as most on ADSL) I can only imagine that the more updates there are the slower it will get. Much like in the past, as gaming technology moves on we also need better equipment and faster download speed to keep up with it. I remember the days of dial up connection and windows 4.1 lol. As far as Sky Poker Customer Care is concerned this is my take on it.................... They have a list of common faults and resolutions based on what type of platform you are using ADSL, Internet explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox etc as these are the most commonly used. When they say "Sky Poker Does Not Support The Dongle" they are NOT saying "we don't want your money" they are saying we do not recommend a dongle as a platform for playing Sky Poker and therefore, for this reason they are unable to help you resolve your problem. This is quite understandable in my opinion. There are ways you may be able to improve your experience using the Dongle, such as turning off the "Icons" and "Card Animations" etc in the "Table Options". There is something called "Ping Rates" this is the length of time it takes to send and receive data from one device to another. Ping Rates have always been a problem using the dongle method to connect to the internet and until the telecommunications companies improve on this, its probably a bit unfair to blame Sky Poker or its Customer Services for something they have NO control over. Personally I would recommend using a faster broadband speed, however in the meantime, try changing a few things in your settings or even try the browser version instead of the download version to see if this helps. This is nonsense.

I have used a dongle to play poker for 5/6 years and have never had problems running 3/4/5 different sites, up to 12 tables, at the same time, including sky poker.

Only since the updates have come in have the disconnections started, its nothing to do with my connection as the other sites I have running carry on as normal.

I've also contacted CS & got the same response. Saying that 'we don't recommend using a dongle' is pathetic & will not make this problem go away. It might make a few customers go away though...

Frank, I had a dongle for a whilst a couple of years bac and it depended where i was in the country as to my reception. If in a cracking area then no problems and if not as you say struggle toload/play/drop out. What i found once though was that I had gone over my limit (T mobile) so restricted you between 4 and midnight and then i could not load tables on sky but could on the other site I used so the packages of data that sky use must be bigger since it was streaming that is banned on t mobile for busting limits. In my last place I was on BB with talk talk and it would drop out too, in my new plave I am on sky and no probs on my new computer but if on old one will still occasionally drop out. I will not use the sky loader because I have had issues with it (might just have been my old lappy

It is shame to see another player with a great attitude leave the site and only hope you check back to see when all these problems are fixed.

I am sad to myself I have started to play only part time on the site due to these disconection problems. It says great things about sky poker that even though people are leaving what has been created from the teams, tornys and amazing comunity that instead of people just leaving they are posting how much they do enjoy it here.

If it wasnt for the comunity I would have gone instead of part play.

I know they do take what is going on serious and the guys at sky would never want to lose anyone and I know they work hard but there is a obvious managment/communication problems spoiling a very good product.

It is very hard for a company to admit there is a serious problem when they cant find out what is going wrong I am wirless and of course tried wired same disconection problems to the extent I have had no choice to spend a large part of my play on another site.

I do not want to fully leave sky as I hope for things to be sorted very soon but never good to let your customers wander to see what else is avaliable out there.

I am not a high roller but I am a priorty club member so do not think Sky dont care they just realy are finding it hard to find out what is the problem.

I hope this changes and we can get back to what we are hear for to maon groan and show off our poker wins and beats lol

I am in the exact same situation as the OP.

I am a dongle user and have been for a while, only recently (past few months) i had trouble on this site, its impossible to play an mtt or stt and even cash on occasions. I was also told by CC the standard response that ''we don't recommend the use of dongles'' and have in the last week moved onto another poker site and haven't had one disconnection problem even in 1000 runner tournaments.

In my opinion, SKY need to resolve this issue very quickly as i can imagine they are going to lose alot of custom from dongle users and others, not to mention the reduced rake and better software i get elsewhere.

I load up Sky Poker (not the download because that times out consistenyl playing a whole 2 tables) and it plays normally on 7 tables for about an hour. Then it starts disco'ing me BUT - it only happens on say 2/3 tables and on about 50% of the time when it's my turn. At the same time all the other tables play 100% perfectly.

    What's that all about!?!

And yep - all been happening since the update!

Has anyone tried upgrading their dongle, or changing it?-- I got a new one from my isp and it works fine--- my old one was rubbish in comparison

Also, at my previous address, the signal was rubbish, but the problems were solved by mounting the dongle in front of the lnb receiver on a satellite dish and pointing towards the nearest tower

ps-- There is a "mobile data monitoring application" called M.D.M.A-- It is a reliable monitor that gives you true and instant signal strength and transfer rates( the monitor on dongles program is rubbish and takes 20 seconds to respond)---- google and install it to find the best place for your dongle (or ask your wife)

If you have to, get a 5m active usb extension cable and put dongle in the right window of house

Aaaaand right on cue it starts again.

So now I have to exit all my tables, exit Sky Poker, close down every application and reboot the laptop so I can restart it again and play normally for an hour. Oh, I have to wait ages to get on the tables again now you say? Useless site!

Extremely close to going elsewhere too! (Edit - playing PERMANENTLY elsewhere - where it works normally :) )
